Is Maiasaura just another OP herbivore?

- Maiasaura is the newest addition to the Evrima roster in The Isle. I am pleasantly surprised to see that this particular mid-tier herbivore has stomped its way into the spotlight in a much more balanced position than the other two herbivores within its size range. I'm very excited to see how this one goes!

Miah has great night vision if you have a gamma switch.
After playing around 20-30ish hours of Maia I can say for a fact that its one of the best herbis yet. It feels like it still stays true to the legacy version whilst adding dynamic and refreshing features.
Honestly I think its perfect as is, the only adjustments I could see is slight balance changes to their stomp, but overall I don't think it suffers from that many balance issues. (esp compared to steg, carno, cera, etc)
And Its so nice to have an actual fully diurnal herbivore on the roster, personally I actually really enjoy their poopy nv. It gives a lot more opportunity for nocturnal predators and it promotes herd grouping (as its meant to be played)
Overall its been a needed breath of fresh air, and fills a necessary "zebra-like" niche in the ecosystem. Its one of the most skill based herbis we have thus far, and it'll definitely be one of my mains.
I agree with you. On all points made. I really like how Maia feels, horrendous night vision included!
maia’s quite interesting. i jumped down from a small cliff as a fullgrown maia, broke my leg, and proceeded to go from basically 0 health to back to max health. it’s quite the fast critter, both in speed and health regeneration
@AkuLovesCats its health regen is absolutely unmatched! I like that about Maia a lot
@ in-built gastronomic regeneration but you don’t need to eat
Oh really? Thats cool, I didn’t know their hp regen was so good
Played galli just so I'd be able to outrun the battle hungry maias and observe their mechanics before playing as one... what I did not expect was to be the head of a maia conga line. Then the troodons arrived and a few of the maias decided to non-consensually sacrifice me... I've never laughed so hard seeing the menu screen
@@ozuray4307 hahaha galli life is so wild
I'd seen it before in a video with the troos but again with the raptor here I'm such a fan of the physics interaction where you can knock someone off of you by running past a tree. Reminds me of those scenes in action movies where someone's standing up when the train goes into the tunnel and...bye.
That's something I really love about this game, they aim for as realistic interactions as possible
@@dinometta Although looking at your last review of Raptor there is another side to that particular story...
Seems like the Raptor problems are mostly bug/latency related; the issue with most player-dex-based units in real-time multiplayer, I suppose.
I saw what looked like a shimmy Across a target's back after pouncing it. If that's something the Raptor can control and wasn't just a glitch, then there's cool counterplay to the tree strat.
Instead of playtesting new playables myself, I just watch your vids lol. I'm just here patiently waiting for allo before coming back
@@Lsdamned I am so looking forward to allo. We need a mid tier carnivore
@@dinometta 100%, as soon as allo comes out, I'm target locking all stego players who did me wrong lol
I just hoping allo isn’t overpowered, at least not much. Not in the sense it will be on par with cerato or teno but at least where it doesn’t completely nullify them, being faster and stronger. Hoping there’s a way for the other carnivores to survive more than 2 minutes if one sees them.
@dtbrex08 It makes more sense for allo to be way stronger than those two tho. Making it smaller and slightly slower than necessary would essentially turn it into a premium version of Cerato. Some animals are naturally stronger and faster than others, take Rex, for example. It’s overpowered against smaller dinos but finds a fair match against other apexes. Allo’s role is to hunt the stronger herbivores in the current roster, not to be adjusted just to make life easier for other playable carnivores. If you think about it, a well-coordinated group of Ceratos and Carnos can already take down the overpowered Dibble and Stego. Similarly, even a good pack of Troodons, despite being one-hit to most playables can bring down a full-grown Maia. So, there’s really no justification for nerfing Allo aside from the fact that some people need to get good with the game lol
Hey Metta, mentioned this on Acronym’s vid on the Maia, but I was one of the Dibble at the highlands lake. The one that was fending you guys was me😂 5:02

@@theloafs2622 my problem with cerato is that is has ALL the resistance and almost no weaknesses. Venom, bleed, damage, stun while eating, all resistant. Only weakness is that it's slower than most herbivores and other carnivores

Theres strange irony that one of strongest attacks on maia can be spammed but the headbutt which is one of the weakest attacks has a fairly long recovery. It's annoying because the headbutt should theoretically be the most effective at dealing with small and maneuverable opponents you can't hit while in bipedal stance like omni but, right now the best way of dealing with omni it to either run or hoping their dumb enough to let you hit them with a stomp or kick.

I hope so! Horde test always slows down after a couple weeks anyway as people want to go back to their favorite servers. The test has been running nicely performance-wise, so it should in theory make sense to go to release soon
@@dinometta ikr as far as my mind it should be released like now or tommorow since i dont really see any bugs.
Hello, returning player here. Based on what I’ve seen in this video, if the developers really want to allow Maia to stun-stomp a Dibble, they should either:
A: Greatly increase the stamina cost of the stomp, to encourage Maias to use it more strategically, only when they aren’t planning to flee, and it would also punish them for missing or spamming the ability.
OR
B: Nerf the cooldown and reduce the damage - This would make the ability less overwhelming in direct confrontations.
Honestly, I believe Dibble should have an edge over Maia in a 1-on-1 fight, considering that ceratopsians are primarily fighters while hadrosaurs are more suited for running. (Assuming Dibble loses outright currently.)
Besides my nitpicky opinion; great video 10/10!
Yeah, I'd agree. Ultimately I think they just made it so the stomp can't stun dibble anymore
@dinometta Oh thank goodness. Haven't seen the latest changes!
If that's the case, then I think it's in a healthier state now. :)

Haha we get up to ridiculous shenanigans sometimes xD
Did Maia get a rework recently? Last time I played maia, every attack felt like it took stamina.
Yes, Maia got perhaps the hardest nerf we've seen on a herbivore. They're a massive pushover now
I honestly am interested to see how a true 1v1 with a good diablo vs a good maia would go, I’ve heard they can facetank a diablo but with diablo being not much less in terms of hp and doing great damage and bleed plus stun, I think a good diablo could pull it off. I honestly would buff maia’s normal flurry punch a bit but nerf its stomp to cost like 10% stamina and do like 250 damage at most. Like you said it should be a finisher. If carno having a whopping 10% stam drain on charge in update 6.5 was okay than surely maias stomp costing 10% is fine. It does hefty knockdown and its stomp would still be useful damage-wise, and is mostly made for fleeing anyways. I’d rather it have a huge stam cost so people kinda regret using it than just have a cooldown. ONLY because cooldowns in The Isle feel weird, with Isle aiming for realism and whatnot. Dilo’s laugh is okay because its like a, you know, mental disorientation ability, but physical attacks should be stamina costly for the most part in my opinion, along with feeling slow.

I love these videos :D
You really found two of the like 5 freindly dibble players in the game and attacked them for no reason 😢
Not necessarily no reason. It's important to test matchups before they go to the live branch, so we can leave feedback, report bugs we find, and otherwise help the developers to improve the new animal.
That fight against the Dibbles showed that there was a definite balance problem with speedy Maia McGee as-is, and I posted feedback relating to that issue(focused on changing stomp to be less spammable) in order to hopefully request change before the animal is pushed to the live branch where balance updates are much less frequent.
I never grew a maia in the hordetest fully due to dumbass cannibals or them resetting growth for no reason, but what I've seen of it from videos, the issue is thus; it's basically a Zerg rush animal even when it's not supposed to be.
Maia is not *designed* to fight. Its attacks all do stun and relatively low damage because it's not meant to stand its ground, it's meant to stun predators and run. It has ever so slightly more than two minutes of stamina which is a lot by herbivore standards, and it's fast. It's supposed to do what teno and pachy can't since it actually has the means to do so.
But it also has the highest base herd limit of a herbivore larger than dryo, which introduces a conundrum; if you get enough trash damage dealers dealing damage on something...the damage isn't so trash anymore. Pair this with their better speed and stamina compared to teno and pachy giving them more sustainability in a fight, and you have a shockingly competent fighter when they're grouped up.
Unfortunately I think is something the devs are gonna target either in nuking its stamina or speed, reducing its herd limit (this is the least likely because I don't think even Dondi is stupid enough to think herd limits actually matter at this point) or they'll nerf its damage even more. Either stat nerf will toss it into the unplayed bin with Dryo, Hypsi, and Galli though, because people in this game cannot fathom playing an animal that is meant to flee instead of fight.
@@Dinoman9877 yeah, I'm waiting to see what kind of nerfs happen. I'm honestly surprised there haven't been more patches yet actually.

Happened many many times before with my carnos on spiro.
I am excited to see when allo is added to the roster (hopefully next playable released). It’s intended that there be bad moments that are disadvantageous because for one its balance and also realism. A dino that is fast, tanky, has good stam and pretty okay damage needs a weakness, with maia being night vision. If that’s what you’re trying to say at least. I’m honestly liking the darker nights, makes night time actually scary. If you’re in an open field its usually okay to see anyways.
