As a recently licensed EMT, it does make sense to me how making careful observations about someone else's subtle bodily motions and quickly developing a "general impression" could translate well to a sword fight and predicting the opponent's next move. Especially if they have combat experience as Dr Livesay

Huhh....you guys are so innocent. He's clearly on coke. Look at that locked smile, that stiffnes when moving, how he can fight with no rest against a huge number of enemies. And the alcohol that he likes to drink, the rhum.
For context: When he snatches away the pipes, he is literally telling the pirates that they are so out of breathe due to smoking tobacco that they will now die because they can't regain their oxygen. They then proceed to die, with him smiling at them the whole time.
Dr liveseys gigachad lessons in this video: 1. Don’t smoke or drink 2. Learn to defend yourself 3. Don’t be afraid of guns 4. Enjoy the little things 5. A little crazy can be good 6. Keep your head up and chest out 7. Walk with CONFIDENCE!
Two seconds of a character from an obscure piece of media from the 80s simply walking gets immortalized as a meme by the internet. It's like Morshu all over again. The internet is a wonderfull thing
Hello. Why do you think: "from an obscure piece of media 80th"? There were more than two hundred million inhabitants in the USSR at that time. This cartoon was shown for a long time after the collapse of the USSR. So add, to those who saw him then, a couple more generations. The fact that this cartoon is in Russian does not mean that it is little known. By the way, it contains references to several films from the USA. For example, an episode where a pirate shoots a cannon like a machine gun is a reference to "Rambo 2".
It is actually impressive to not drink or smoke given how pervasive that stuff is in cultures all over the world. Hats off to all those who stay away from that stuff like I do
@@vibratingaught3656 Right, I'm not taking that away by my comment. Basically, You wouldn't think of this specific scene to just EXPLODE some day in the 2022s. The power of memes.
Dr. Livesey isn’t just a chad just because of his musculature. He’s also a great role model. I mean, come on. He says drinking and smoking are bad for you, he’s an excellent sword fighter, and a great leader. Just saying.
I just love the reason why dr livesy is like he is in this adaption. He's a relatively minor character in the original, but because the USSR treasure island is also meant to serve double duty as an anti drinking PSA (the USSR was having a very real problem with people drinking themselves into a stupor, or death), they made the dr be an absolute god of a human, as he would understand the damage drinking does to you, and abstain.
Yeah, in fact, they changed his line to Billy Bones during his first few moments in between the original book and the adaptation. In the book, he says “I have only one thing to say to you, sir … if you keep on drinking rum, the world will soon be quit of a very dirty scoundrel!” But in the film? "The words 'rum' and 'death' should mean the same thing to you!" Absolutely brutal.
The other two have a super basic walk cycle with their hands in their pockets and everything. Livesey is strutting like a gigachad. Edit: normally I don't bother to edit these comments, but it has come to my attention a few dozen times that Jim and Trelawney have oversized sleeves and I mistook the cuffs for pockets. Still, the point remains that Livesey got 100% of the animation budget here.
Because it exactly how he'd look; build like a upside down triangle with shoulders an armor could be jealous of and a smile with teeth that could probably chomp down a tree.
Treasure Island was a book? Didn't know that. Like they could have really made him a guy in a generic doctor outfit and appearance, but nah. They made him radiate pure godly energy.
People born in the USSR and their post-Soviet children who watched this cartoon in their childhood are especially nostalgic watching this meme after so many years after the first viewing. And I am no exception, this hero shone again but with renewed vigor.
Yeah the first few times I saw it again was when nostalgia hit but now the more I see of it the more it’s ruining the nostalgia around it but that’s probably just me
@@thechosenone4422 They're talking about how Dr. Livesey is animated. From what I can tell for most of the movie the characters are animated at 12 FPS, although a few times characters switch to 24 FPS to make a movement smoother. Dr. Livesey in the walking scene is one of those moments, which means the animators decided that Dr. Livesey walking was worth putting in twice as much work.
"The Words Rum and Death should mean the same thing to you!" This is literally a way better Anti-Drinking Message than all Anti-Drinking Messages I've seen in my life.
I'm personally not against drinking but do always encourage safe and responsible drinking in moderation. I think it's fine to enjoy a drink or two once in a while.
It works well because he’s charismatic, not because it’s an effective message. It’s quite general and without Dr Livesay to back it up it wouldn’t be very persuasive compared to, say, a depressing description of the life of an alcoholic
I smoke weed and don't drink alcohol. But I'm not alpha like a Chad or Dr. Levsey, I'm femboy, i have half female figure and appearance. I like wear s l u t clothes. I'm so horny like a girl 🥵💖
What's ironic is that, in the novel, Dr Livesey is the least noticeable of the five main characters. Long John Silver, Captain Smolett, Trelawney and even Jim are far more active and important to the plot. But for some reasons, the Soviet adaptation chose to make him stand out the most. I suspect it was for making the anti-alcohol message that's present through the whole movie more appealing. So, basically, Dr Livesey is a badass walking PSA.
sure the five is most active but Livesey carried the story hard, it even stated that in the story without Livesey the expedition would fail, which I think this the reason why USSR adaptation use him to the one stand out the most
@@natashalaurentia2763 Well he is the one to introduce Jim to Trelawney, which is the main reason why the expedition can take place at all. But then, he is a pretty passive character. He is on the side of captain Smolett, but doesn't really help with the escaping nor with the installation into the fort. When Jim reveals the existence of the stranded pirate, Livesey is the one sent to talk to him by the others, but then he does basically nothing until after the attack. It is implied that he gave Long John Silver the treasure map in exchange for their lives, but it could as well be that he left the map at the fort and Smolett did the negociating. He is then sent to the pirates to help the injured, and there he meets Jim. He proposes to help him escape, but since Jim refuses he does nothing and simply leave. Then, when Jim and Long John Silver are attacked by the other pirates because the treasure is nowhere to be found, Livesey is among those that suddenly show up and help them, and he is the one who reveals that the stranded pirate had move the treasure into his cave a long time ago, and that's the last thing he does in the novel. Not really the most notable character in the novel. He is more a kind of "wise old master" type character, but isn't mentor for Jim, so even that aspect is very slim.
Rumor has it he originally wasn't so centered in the film. But once they made the character, he was such a giga chad that the story made him the main character itself
DR LIVESEY: -he is buff af -he is confident -he isnt a pessimist (pessimism is literally for loosers) -he is a incredible marksman (skill with shooting guns accurately) -he is educated -he is interested into the wellbeing of himself and those around him (hence the health advice) -he is cheerful and positive even in dangerous and outright life threatening situations -dat walk -apparently is skilled in sword fighting and/or fencing etc diagnosis? CHAD cure? HE IS THE CURE.
I dunno about an incredible marksman. He certainly makes shooting flintlock pistols look good but he doesn't hit anything (neither does anybody else's gun, granted)
This cartoon is named "Treasure Island", it's from my mom's childhood. But when I was kid, I watched it too again and again. This film was made in USSR, in 1989, during the realignment (transition from the USSR, to Russia. This period named "Perestroika")
Treasure Island - is a soviet Ukraine two-part live-action/animated adventure comedy television film adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's novel Treasure Island (1883). It was created by the studio "kyivnauchfilm" in between 1986 and 1988. P.S. Transition? The soviet "union" collapsed and russia made only one transition from $hit to $hit.

@@ianian4162 the only criteria about absolute toxic and unhealthy are from science, biology... And biology is pretty sure that consumption of too much alcohol and smoking will be detrimental in the long term. So yeah we can conclude those are positive advices (masculine or not isn't really the question here, I'm sure the other comments want to express how much of a cool representation of the male sex it is, making good life decisions and having upheld values, they just said masculine as it was the first adjective that came in their mind)
The mechanics of his gait are insane - his entire torso rotates independently of both his hips and neck, up to 90° with respect to his sagittal plane, as his arms are at relative rest by his side lmao
Insane is a bit of an exaggeration, but it it's not, 'natural'. With a bit of practice, it's not too hard to get a consistent emulation going.

In the book, he says “I have only one thing to say to you, sir … if you keep on drinking rum, the world will soon be quit of a very dirty scoundrel!”

That and to make him, a doctor, a more attractive role model to young kids
And also because he is educated and can fight
sure the five is most active but Livesey carried the story hard, it even stated that in the story without Livesey the expedition would fail, which I think this the reason why USSR adaptation use him to the one stand out the most
@@natashalaurentia2763 Well he is the one to introduce Jim to Trelawney, which is the main reason why the expedition can take place at all.
