my guess for the volunteers bug is that the game has calculations for how many volunteers you can send, and they're based on states. but now that the states are provinces, it might be interfering with those calculations.
Nah it might be because the volunteers don't have a victory point to arrive in,if a victory point doesn't have a name then it will be named after the state,and since it seems like there is no victory points assigned in the state file it just crashes as it doesn't know where to send the volunteers,if a state is a capital,but has no VP,it will have a VP that technically doesn't exist I've modded hoi4 a bit before.

3:45 you probably changed state_ids with the mod you're using, so the volunteers can't arrive where they're supposed to and the game cannot put them anywhere so it crashes
Made me think it would be cool if the AI adapted its army composition to the actual size of the frontlines it expect to fight onto, like as you did making few heavy or specialized troops for a small frontline or mass producing cheap infantry for things like the russian/soviet borders
When you make these map changes, could you also do ai only timelapse videos with them? I like to watch hoi4 timelapse videos so I get recommend your videos with your cool ideas. The problem is I dont like to watch people play the game themselves. I prefer the timelapse format without commentary etc
Historical focuses doesn't seem to help very much. I've played historical games as germany where Italy lost to ethiopia and was invaded and conquered by the allies before joining the axis. I've played historical games as Manchukuo where the united states didn't enter ww2 until late in 1945 when the situation in europe was completely lost and the war devolved into china and the united states fighting westward across the barren supplies of east asia and siberia towards the German controlled Ural mountains and brutal jungle warfare across Italian controlled India. I roleplayed that last one as America joining in when Belgium lost its last territory in africa because they lost access to chocolate and fries. But it made no sense.
I just can't personally enjoy playing hoi4 anymore. It never made sense but it makes even less sense. You have no clue at a glance why some units are doing better than others or why your elite troops are getting steamrolled by the superpower bonuses the german army gets.
It doesn't surprise me that historical is not historical, I had a Germany game where the allies declared war on me for Sudetenland, and in the same one the Soviet union declared war on Poland in 1937 and the Soviet union lost

Spawning units (like volunteers) causes crashes, because they spawn at location that does not exist.
