What happened to indie games being more experimental?

Not certain why but I couldn't focus during the gameplay. I felt like my eyes were trying to cross or split. Which was really irritating. But that was probably just because of the trailer and not the game. Anyway Elsie looks great and so do the bosses.
Can they just straight up make a Yugioh card into a hot lady like that? Name and all? Its bad enough she has two dragons coming off her in the boss fight, but to also use ice attacks AND be named Trishula? this can't be legal...can it???
I'll never understand how these indie games have such cool pixel art and then end up using the most basic text and number font. Takes you right out of the experience ... 😅
@@malcovich_games Hades doesn't use the most basic powerpoint slide font for its damage numbers/brief pop-up text though. What i'm criticizing is the use really REALLY basic font. You can go look up Prodeus for another example of zero effort basic font that straight up ruins the immersion for you. Sucks because it's a fantastic FPS.
It's because we're translating it into a bunch of languages and needed a font that supports a wide set of international characters as it's currently a few thousand glyphs. It's a very small team and we can't build a custom font with such support.
The gameplay looks great, but the faux-anime is jarring when the actual (tiny) pixel art gameplay is revealed (woe to anyone playing on handheld mode) that can't compete with the detail shown in the artwork. Combine that with several instances where you can't tell WHAT is going on makes this a pass for me, someone who typically loves pixel-art games. Hopefully their next game uses larger, better detailed & animated sprites.
Actually Nintendo didn’t make this game, They only posted the trailer. It’s confirmed by Playtonic when it was released already on PC, But now it’s gonna be released on Switch and PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Not enough pixel art games make use of strong black outlines for their sprites, everything here pops really well.
I can barely tell there are black outlines. The clip of the pink outline around the player character really shines though.

Realized early on in the gameplay that it wasn't for me, but stayed til the end for the song.
Played at PAX and the game was a lot of fun. Can’t wait for it to come out. I hope it gets a physical release too

Cool display fonts would only be used in menus, but never in descriptions or numbers meant to be quickly glanced at.
