Season 4 wasn't bad though; it was the horribly shitty, absolutely terrible, disgustingly hideous final season (6) that completely fucked up. Admittedly the previously season wasn't wonderful either, but I think if they had just ended with season 4 I would have been ok with it.

After watching this show I just realized something. Lucifer's comments are very similar to what someone who misses social cues would say, and they're also extremely quick-witted.
He said he doesn't lie, he didn't say he doesn't joke around. He's witty, sarcastic, and acts like a teenager in the first season, so it technically wasn't a lie if she saw the twinkle in his eyes.

A lie is someone deliberately deceiving someone for your own personal gain, such as lying to get out of trouble (like Trixie lying when Chloe and Dan asked if she ate the chocolate cake). Jokes are statements that one says to make someone laugh or smile, with knowledge that their intent isn't to lie or harm people. Chloe caught on quickly, and smiled. She knew he wasn't lying, that it wasn't meant to be taken seriously, knew what his intentions were when he said that. If Chloe herself didn't hold it against him and took it as a lie, what right do we have to take it as a lie and hold what's clearly a joke against him? Makes it look like we can't see a joke when it's literally right in front of our faces, yes?
