Something else no one talks about with joint finances is that there is always a risk your partner could secretly accrew debt and for instance, if they die you'd be held responsible. Or other such horror stories. (Which I only researched bc I was terrified I'd end up with my father's debt, so that's context for ya 😂).
So always be careful, even if you trust them at first, x years of marriage changes people. My parents are certainly not the same people they were when they got married.

If I for example make 100,000$ and my spouse makes 50,000$, then I would add twice as much to the joint account than her. That way, both partners get to keep their own private finances while also fairly contributing money to family related expenses. I think this creates strong personal boundaries, allows both parties to feel a degree of freedom while still working together, reduces the risk of one partner feeling like the other is leeching off them, and allows both parties to surprise each other and build trust.

If a guy asks me about my credit and wants a joint bank account, I’m running. Maybe it’s the trust issues, but that seems more like someone trying to use me for financial gain. The only person that gets access to my finances is me and my bank (unless there’s like some legal stuff). Had someone try to clear out an account with joint access before, it’s a huge violation of trust and there isn’t much you can do about it.

  • @_.Chai._

I think a merged account is a green and red flag. Having a joint account is great for paying bills, stuff related to ur kids, savings, etc. but I think u should also have separate personal bank accounts. Like who do I look like paying for a trip I didn’t go on, something I didn’t want, or something I’m never gonna use? Especially if it’s expensive.

😅I shared my debt on first date (car payment) as well as laid everything that was not negotiable down so we both where not wasting time. We actually where engaged day 3 and he was my first boyfriend because one of my dogs was extremely aggressive towards everyone and my rule was that the dog came first. But this guy met me because he needed a dog sitter and he actually brawled with my one boy and had a scar from it all the way up to our wedding from it. But I mean it worked because that dog was dangerous and no one stood up to him before, I was the only person giving him a chance at a life at all which is how I got him. We still have that dog and we have many more dogs now. They are our babies. (Only difficult thing is we can’t just go have fun and be carefree because the one dog is a liability and we are the only two people who can go near him so we have to plan accordingly. Also since we own so many dogs we have to make sure every dogs babysitter is available. One dog goes to his mom on weekends and his sister on weekdays, one goes to my mom or my brother depending on who’s available, two go to a good friend, and if we have a litter of pups we just can’t go at all)

Years later I met my husband AND he told me baby Im going to give you my money manage It please Im not good at It.
