  • The Private Gardens of Georgia is a tour of thirty of the most beautiful gardens across Georgia and shows how each has evolved into a place of charm and tranquility. These private oases illustrate unique plant and terrain differences at all seasons of the year and reveal the unique diversity found from the mountains to the piedmont and South Georgia, to the coast and the Golden Isles. Along with a brief history of each garden is fascinating information on the extensive diversity of plant materials that are suitable not only to these regions of Georgia, but to other areas in the southeastern United States.
In Private Gardens of Georgia, you are invited for a tour of thirty of the most beautiful gardens across Georgia. From the mountains to the piedmont in South Georgia, to the coast and the Golden Isles, these unique gardens abound with radiant color and elegance. Also included are a brief history of each garden's evolution and, in many instances, comments by the owners about their designs and choice of plant materials.
Georgia is the largest state east of the Mississippi River and has a rich and varied geography. This terrain supports a diverse mix of botanical species, which Georgia's gardeners have used to full advantage. In addition to seeing these treasured private spaces, you can learn invaluable tips for your own garden plans, as well as how to incorporate architectural elements such as potting sheds, greenhouses, fencing, gazebos, and more.
Polly McLeod Mattox is a native South Carolinian who has spent most of her married life in Georgia, where her daughter and coauthor, Helen Mattox Bost, was born. Mother and daughter are interior designers and share a deep appreciation of southern gardens. Helen is a graduate of the University of North Carolina. Hello Mary, Thank you for this beautiful book and lovely garden tour. I must have been born old as I have loved sitting in a garden and listening to birds sing my entire life. I just love a garden with vine filled walls, gates and pathways filled with lush greenery. There I can dream forever. Have a beautiful day. Hugs :)

Beautiful book once again. The style of gardening for this mother & daughter ensemble for me is "serenity" . Thank you for taking us along on your walk & not incorporating music 😊. As the song of the birds, the rustling of the leaves, the slight breeze and your steps in the gravel was music 🎵 to my ears.

I love the garden statuary surprises , urns on their plinths and large groupings of tumbling white flowers amidst the boxwood.

What a treat to visit these tranquil escapes while your sweet, calming voice narrates. With all the pictures in each book, how do you choose which ones you will feature in your videos? Thank you for taking us along as you journey through each tome.

This book is coming to my library one way or the other. It should be a great help and source of inspiration for my little Georgia mountain garden which right now is not much more than an overgrown construction materials littered yard.

I am always amazed at the scope of talent and work that goes into creating a beautiful garden oasis! These ones do not disappoint. The sound of walking on the gravel is so comforting for me...also love a brick pathway. Thanks for sharing. 🤗

The book was stunning.... but as an average small home owner I cannot relate to an estate and palatial home. I do enjoy looking. But your walk about made me see some things I could incorporate in my small little brick paths.. certain trees and trellises.

Bought this book at a thrift store for $2.00 several months ago in North Georgia. Definitely worth the $2.00, but don’t think I would have paid $40.00 for it. Have it on my coffee table.
