    I can’t help feeling sad about the GOAT’s retirement. He’s the main reason I watched Moto GP. Thank you for the great ride, Doc.

    This was the best race of Rossi's career, I think. He knew he had to do absolutely everything to stay in front of Stoner, cause Stoner would've disappeared to the distance if he had been allowed to just run at his pace. It also changed the tide of the season as Stoner had won the previous three races from pole and was again half a second faster than Rossi in qualifying here! Not to mention that Rossi had never won at Laguna Seca before. Basically, so much was at stake and that Corkscrew pass was incredible.

    Another quote direct from Rossi on Stoner in the most recent interview with italian Rolling Stone magazine.
    "Stoner did an amazing job at Ducati," Rossi said in Rolling Stone. "When I looked back at his telemetry, I used to wonder how he achieved such times. I immediately realized the bike wasn't the best."
    This leaves me to believe that Rossi ate some humble pie when he climbed onto that Ducati for the first time and realized it was Stoner's performance and skill all those years that gave Ducati 23 wins. The only rider to do so for Ducati.

      Proves that a bike has to fit to your driving style and the driving style has to fit to the bikes architecture. I would like to see if Marquez could handle other bikes the same way he does with his Honda.

    • @neutronalchemist3241
      @neutronalchemist3241 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Stoner had not been the first rider that, dictating the evolution of the bike, adapted it to himself so much that none else was capable to ride it effectively (and, in the case of Stoner, so much that ultimately not even himself was still able to ride it. After 2007 he won every year less with the Ducati, and in 2010 he arrived only 4th in the championship). IE it happened to Rainey and Marquez... Not all the great riders are great test riders. Stoner won the championship in 2007 and 2011. The first time with a bike evolved by Capirossi, the second with one evolved by Pedrosa.

    Stoner and Rossi that years were my favourite riders. Their talent, their capacity to push the bike other the limits, their speed... For me only Marc Marquez matched it.
    That day, even it was 11 PM (I live in Italy), I was awake with with father watching the race, and we were not disappointed. Probably the best race ever, that demonstrated how Rossi and Stoner were good. That day the pair was like from another planet. They were battling like no tomorrow, but look how much they were fast on the others, no one has approached them. Even Stoner fell, he was still second and with a great advantage on Vermuelen.

    I have a new found respect for VR. He was quoted in 'Sport Rider Magazine' that he states that " Casey is the only rider that can be fast with the Ducati. All the other guys that try, have destroyed not only their career, but their mind, so congatulations to him ". You've really got to hand it to Valentino for saying something positive like that about a fierce rival who he didn't get on with. Power to him.

    Spot on, im a fan of both. I enjoy watching Stoner more, but VR is better over a season. I now understand why he is leaving too.

    When you consider how crap the Ducati was compared to the Yamaha,it was an amazing performance from Stoner.Especially when you look at how Rossi has faired on it since he has taken over.
