Good to have you back. As an aside, I have to ask what you're using to get SA-2s in DCS- I've wanted them for a while to proper Vietnam Wild Weasel stuff, but the earliest in the vanilla game is the SA-3.
Ah, darn, I was hoping someone had finally whipped up an SA-2 mod. SA-3s are contemporaneous, but they're higher performance and were never deployed outside of the USSR. Still, glad you're back.
Yeah I'd love to see some different air defence systems added to DCS sometime soon. That and the infrastructure seen on many strategic sites, the "sam circles" for lack of a better term - www.ausairpower.net/Google-Earth/SEVASTOPOL.jpg
Oi, shadowplay problem can probably be fixed by setting the audio to what you're going to listen to, alt+f3 to open the overlay, turn off recording and then back on. It should then record audio. I also record a quick clip because sometimes the first clip wouldn't have audio but subsequent ones would. If you open the volume mixer (right clicking on the volume icon) and don't see an Nvidia volume slider you won't have audio. Try it and let me know if it works
Shadowplay belongs in the garbage. Only thing I ever record with anymore is Dxtory. takes a bit of setup, but its by far the most minimalistic setup after you do the initial setup. haven't played with OBS, but I have heard decent things. IMO, skip the gazelle. the F-5 is cool, really wish they would add in at least the T-38A 'variant' and hopefully eventually someone will do up a T-38C. it'd be the ultimate "get started" package if that were the case. I've also already pre-ordered the F-18 (obviously) hope the F-4 and F-14 come out this year. would be nice to also get some more attack choppers for the blue side, and some more jets on the red side.
I used Dxtory in the past, it's alright but shadowplay has been producing higher quality recordings with less performance impact for me. In regards to modules though, I did end up picking up every module I was missing and also pre-ordered the Hornet as well. And yeah a talon would have been great, I'm pretty surprised they didn't just decide to make that instead of the F-5E considering all the other trainer modules out there already.
Your DCS ME tutorials blow everyone else's away- precise and concise with examples. I went from knowing nothing to making in depth multiplayer missions in no time. I would love to know if you've ever successfully added units to a country in the db_countries file? I followed this www.lockonfiles.com/forums/topic/41108-how-to-add-your-own-list-of-planes-to-new-15-open-beta-countries/ (it's the only one I could find) and it looks like it's right, it's a pretty straightforward process, but it doesn't work when adding the new db_countries file to the mod directory (using the new ED recommended Saved Games route) and when I replace the original file altogether DCS won't fire up. I'm trying it in 1.5.6 btw, if I get it working I will do NTTR next. Doing missions involving N. Korea and Iran as the enemy is really limited without then having an expanded air, navy and army unit list, this will be especially noticable when the Strait of Hormuz map comes out. Would greatly appreciate your thoughts on this!
Unfortunately no I haven't messed around with trying to add units to db_countries. I know back just before the 1.5 update there was a mod I used that added ww2 units which worked fine, after the update that mod and any others that added units don't seem to function for me anymore so perhaps there were some changes made during the update. In any event good luck with your project, the game could really use some new assets.
Yeah it's not a huge deal it's mainly for immersion, one just has to use Russian units mixed in with whatever the main country is for that mission. I don't fully understand the unit rosters in DCS, if you put Iran on the red side with Russia they can't have Russian units but in some cases they can have NATO.
Not very often, I've messed around on open conflict server a few times in the mirage when flying with some friends but not many people I talk to actually fly DCS and those that do don't get into it very often and have no real drive to learn or get any better so usually it's just private hosting while we mess around. I do want to work something out sometime soon, I need more people to fly with, people that focus primary on dcs or at least have the drive to get into it fairly often.
Doubt it, I've been following BI's updates and as far as I can tell they care more about milking money out of people via DLC than actually updating the issues in ARMA 3. Until they fix half the problems I've ran across (like the defence modules) I can't be bothered to give coverage to anything made by Bohemia Interactive.
Congratulations on the new gig and the ability to buy new kit. I know it's a great feeling. Welcome back, and thanks for the content.
Thanks
My body is ready! I've been having to read manuals without your videos!

No more ARMA?
