Do note that Pendulum Summoning counts as exactly one Summon according to game mechanics. Therefore, a single Solemn Strike will negate the summon of all monsters that were Pendulum Summoned, since it counts as ONE summon of MULTIPLE monsters.

7:45 Thank you for saying this. So many people inherently misunderstand the Pendulum summon and call it a free soul charge. It actively costs a lot of resources and having the wrong ones get negated is basically an instant scoop. There's a reason why there's only been one good pendulum archetype since MR4 started.

    • @ndt7379
      @ndt7379 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Part of the reason why there's only been one good one is due to the fact that at it's apex, the good one was really good. Konami knew how volatile they could get if they became consistent, hence why they're left in the state they're in. In duel links, the game is far more consistent, which makes this issue worse.

@@ndt7379well pepe deck was the only truely busted deck they had and I think pendulums are a little over hated because of that. the deck was only good cause you had performapal monkeyboards at 3 which was a 1 card scale with no restrictions on what you can search and plushfires at 3 which is an easily abusable card you can kill, resummon, and search over and over and it's not once once per turn and it's 4star card so you can use it for a lot of xyz plays. Like, a lot of the other cards were like that too. You would basically blow your cards up over and over and have all the cards you wanted to win. Like you also had zodiac and spryrals during that era and neither of those really used the mechanic at all and I honestly think pendulums are overly hated cause they had one insanely busted deck. The only other one during that era that came close was maybe full power pendulum magicians with zarc with lyralusc. Honestly thought pendulums were fine as they were and it irks me you need link cards to make them work cause no other card is forced to have that restriction.

I think pendulum cards have no place in yugioh. This game is already a glorified game of solitaire as it is where the objective is to stop your opponent from playing the game at all.
Yu Gi Oh was at it's best in the GX maybe 5Ds era, where you had a chance to play the game and had to use strategy to win.

    • @ImaTroper
      @ImaTroper 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

@@HerrenGamingNewsOf course a yugiboomer would decry modern yugioh as solitaire while also praising the era of Yatalock, Goat control, and tele-DAD.
Of all the summoning mechanics, pendulums are the most balanced. You get ONE pendulum summon a turn. That's all that needs to be negated.
Meanwhile synchros and links are so easy to go plus and ladder they regularly win the Maxx C challenge. Fusions and XYZ are entirely built around ignoring the limitations of their own mechanics. XYZ summoning off of XYZ monsters, fusion summoning by shuffling monsters from the GY to the deck. Where's the balance in that? Not to mention the cards that promote control are mostly synchros (baron, demise) or fusions (dragoon).
Pendulums, rituals, and tribute decks are the only ones that deserve any respect.

I love Pendulums. They are my favorite type of monster cards in the modern era. Admittedly, they are very complex to play, what with the massive amounts of text and the special rulings, but I just find them extremely fun and rewarding.
Playing them effectively and defeating a strong opponent with them almost feels like cracking a puzzle.
It's a shame they're in a bad spot in terms of the competitive play right now. Having an inherent three card combo mechanic just puts them at disadvantage against current top decks capable of using one card and two card combos.
I really wish Konami would give them more support.

To not be overwhelmed by the long texts of Pendulums, you can just ignore one part of its text depending on where it is.
If it's on the Pendulum zone, you can ignore its monster effect entirely.
If it's anywhere outside the Pendulum Zone, you can ignore its Pendulum Effect.
With this, you can ignore half of the card text of cards like Nirvana High Paladin.
There are exceptions to this, particularly if you attempt to remove Pendulum cards from the pendulum zone (by destroying, banishing, etc.) because once they're destroyed, pendulum cards in the PZ will activate their Monster effects instead.

    • @ilikedota5
      @ilikedota5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

This is notable for stuff like double iris magician that when they are a pendulum scale, they can activate their pendulum effect, which destroys itself in exchange for something else as a part of the effect, but then they trigger their destruction effect that's on the monster side of the card.

Another thing to point out is that pendulum cards in the pend zone still count as a monster *card* . I found out through the interactions between Deviser King Deus Machinex and Pend monsters. This situation only happens when a card says "monster card", because, in its essence, Pendulum monsters are still monsters. That is why Machinex activated its effect. But cards like Divine Wrath or Skill Drain cannot affect Pendulum monsters on the Pendulum Zone, because they are talking about "monsters" and not the specific nomenclature "monster card"; so, they will just check cards that are counting as monsters on the field and not their "original form", as it were. Ok, let me try something then:
    _Pendulum Pandemonium_
    Field Spell
_You can add this card to your hand (from your field or GY) if you conduct and resolve a Pendulum Summon. This card cannot be destroyed by card effects while you control a monster in your pendulum zone. If you have 2 pendulum monsters in your pendulum zones, Monsters you control gain 500 ATK/DEF X the difference in their pendulum scales. If a card or effect would be activated or applied in response to your pendulum summon of a monster: You can tribute 2 cards from your hand or field to negate the activation. The following effects are applied depending on the scales of any pendulum monsters in your pendulum zones:_
0-4: If a Pendulum Monster from your hand or field would be sent to the GY or banished face-up: it is placed face-up in your extra deck instead. If a pendulum monster from your hand or field is banished facedown: You can add 1 “Pendulum” card from your field, deck or GY to your hand.
5-8: You can normal summon/set monsters with 1 less tribute, and change their battle positions after their summon/set. Once per turn, you can tribute 1 normal summoned/set monster you control: Place 1 pendulum monster from your GY or Extra deck into your pendulum zone.
9+: You can tribute 1 monster from your hand or field: Add 1 Pendulum monster to your hand (from your deck or GY) with a scale that matches that tribute’s level/rank/Link-rating. Pendulum monsters in your pendulum zone are unaffected by the effects of opponents monsters who’s level/rank/link-rating match their pendulum scales.

      Pendulum World
      Normal Spell
Target 2 monsters in your hand or GY, place them in your pendulum zones. Monsters that are not pendulum cards placed by this effect will be treated as pendulum monsters with a scale equal to 10 minus the level of the respective monster. If you have 2 or less cards in your hand, you can banish this card from your GY; add monsters from your GY to your hand up to the number of cards your opponent controls, then if you have no cards in your pendulum zones, you can also add this card to your hand. You can only activate each effect of "Pendulum World" once per turn.

I see a potential issue with this:
"If you have 2 pendulum monsters in your pendulum zones, Monsters you control gain 500 ATK/DEF X the difference in their pendulum scales."
Assuming Okay-ish Pendulum Scale of 2 and 7 .... and that's a 2500 ATK boost to ALL monsters you control. And as pointed out, those aren't exactly the best scales to be using... and it's good enough to double Dark Magician's atk..... so you might want to turn that down to maybe 200 or 300 instead of 500 so it's not giving quite a massive boost to every monster you control.

_You can add this card to your hand (from your field or GY) if you conduct and resolve a Pendulum Summon. This card cannot be destroyed by card effects while you control a monster in your pendulum zone. If you have 2 pendulum monsters in your pendulum zones, Monsters you control gain 250 ATK/DEF X the difference in their pendulum scales.
THERE, _now_ under normal circumstances, the ATK/DEF boost should be at most 3000. Still potent, just not “My mushroom man is going to fold your obelisk the tormentor like a pretzel” potent.

@@stone3706 _Right,_ I keep forgetting the stereotype/meme that Yu-Gi-Oh players are illiterate, so I’ll break down the card bit by bit:
⚪️The card, either in the monster or pendulum zones, has a shared effect that prevents it from being destroyed or negated by card effects while you control a normal summoned/set monster.
⚪️Also shared between it’s monster/pendulum effects is an effect where, during turns you control the card, you can normal summon/set as many monsters as you want (and can get away with) in a single turn, BUT you can only special summon _once_ during those turns (meaning if the card leaves the field, you still can’t special summon more than once that turn.)
⚪️The monster and pendulum effects have a shared effect where, from your hand or field, you can tribute 1 monster that is either below 2500 ATK or DEF, or _equal to or above_ 2500 ATK or DEF, to apply a set of effects until your next draw phase.
⚪️The -2500 pendulum effect let’s you normal summon/set monsters with 1 less tribute. Meaning you can normal summon/set level 6 or lower monsters without tributing, and level 7 or higher ones with 1 tribute. Also, every time you normal summon/set a monster, you can shuffle 1 card you own that is banished or from the field or GY into your deck.
⚪️The 2500 or more pendulum effect let’s you either set single spell/trap cards from your hand or deck each time you normal summon/set a monster, OR add a monster to your hand from your field, deck or GY that cannot be normal summoned and/or set (like “Alpha, the Master of Beasts” as a random example).
⚪️The -2500 monster effect let’s you either place pendulum monsters into your pendulum zone (from your hand, GY or field, usually from your monster zones, or other spell/trap zones if they end up THERE somehow), OR adds a spell/trap you own to your hand that is banished or from the field/GY
⚪️And the 2500 or more monster effect simply increases the card’s ATK/DEF by the total ATK/DEF of that of any monster you normal or flip summon (So if you normal summon an Obelisk, that’s 8000 ATK/DEF for this card), AND I can add 1 monster to my hand from my field, deck or GY that cannot be special summoned (Like most Spirit Monsters.)
⚪️Beyond that, is has a decent type/attribute combo, the single best possible pendulum scalings to min-max the one special summon you can get out of this card, and is a pendulum/tuner to help it fit into synchro decks. It’s VERY strong, but so radically different from about anything else in the game you’d need to revolve your entire deck around it to make it worthwhile.

It was really bizarre when I stopped playing after high school around the synchro era and when I came back there were these weird monster zones in the middle and pendulum zones. And all the rules about pendulum monsters and the extra deck were difficult to wrap my head around. I tried to get used to it when pendulum became a thing in Duel Links but it was ultimately the thing that made me lose interest, when so many effects would happen at once and I'd have to use up a lot of time trying to parse what and how things happened in the previous turn.

For most of them, though there are exceptions.
D/D/D, for instance, has their link monster, who places the scales from the deck. Since "Place" isn't the same thing as "Activate", he doesn't care about Anti-spell (or ash, for that matter).

I don't think it was addressed however.. how does the pendulum mechanic work with monsters that are originally from the extra deck such as xyz, fusion, etc? Are they summoned as normal since they are extra deck monsters? How do you go about using their spell effects if you can't play them from the hand?

I raged quitted Yugioh when Pendulums first came out. I first thought this was a broken as hell concept and would ruin the game. Thanks to Duel Links and Master Duel though i came to love Pendulum Summoning. You can then go into XYZ or Synchro Summoning through this method.
I cant see myself not use Pendulum as a base method for any style I try.
I also loved to use Pendulum Impenetrable for protection and Pendulum Switch for trolling and quick Summoning a beat stick monster, like Odd Eyes Arc Pendulum Dragon.

    Abridged version:
    Bottom Effect = Monster
    Top Effect = Spell
Field -> Extra Deck (no graves)
    Scale 1/8 = Summon Level 4/5/6/7
Extra Deck Summon goes into Extra Zone.
