I agree with so many of the adoring comments... I want to try to work with my teacher to sing this lovely song. And hearing you. Beautiful legato and tone. I love you. And they are right (i think) those who commented... That your physical presence, your facial emoting, communicated the words... I want to be Chloris! The voice is solid technique assured And presentation...heart and soul ... Thank you for sharing. And it is great to see a singer smile at appropriate moments As if they cared, as if they were there in the moment... And your smile and innocent eyes emotes the text So beautifully. Listening without watching is equally lovely. But the whole package.... I think I like the whole package . Keep sharing yourself with the world.
There are lots of beautiful versions of this beautiful song, but this is the only one that makes me cry. That self-effacing but confident smile at the end really gets at the essence of the text...
Cullen, your performance here makes me thankful that I was young once and was able to enjoy love and beauty. This is what your rendition of the song conveys to me and I am grateful.
I closed my eyes while listening to this and seriously, the voice is so breathtakingly angelic that it just soothed me and it seems as if the voice is coming from an angel...so otherworldly and it just uplifts you, taking you to a plane that's more ethereal. More songs like these please!!! 😊 God bless!
Congratulations !!!!! I am singer too (bariton) You have an amazing voice but, above all, you have a magical way to offer us the feelings through your smile, your legato, etc..... thank you!
One of the best versions available on TH-cam. A pity about the sonorous accoustics around the piano, but Cullen Gandy catches the subtle subversive irony of the original poem beautiful with his beguiling smiles and passion. Bravo!
Very beautifully and delicately sung as the french melodie should, and his disarming smile puts the text right in it's place! I am moved by his interpretation.
Exquisite singing. Please keep singing using your full voice. You will get a break. You have too much to give. Look at all the views on one song and I found it by accident. What I found is a beautiful interpretation, sung beautifully. Bravo
I miss you and I miss hearing your voice even in your youth I hoped for you to flourish in Classical Music. Much love from one of your high school choralmates and fan
Dear Cullen, Beautiful interpretation! Jst as radiant as you look while you are singing, I'm studying the same song and your interpretation inspires me a lot. Thank you
I've heard so many renditions of this exquisite song, which for me is THE most beautiful tune I've ever heard. I can, and never will, tire of hearing it. As for this gentlemen's performance, yes, it's an appealing voice and persona. However, I think he gets in the way of the piece: the smile is irresistibly engaging but it's laid on like a spoonful of over thick cream and far too often: also, the hand movements overly intervene - we shouldn't notice them at all and we most certainly do, unfortunately... not only does their display add nothing to the song, they detract from it. I'd have liked him to stand without undue attention to himself and let the sheer, indescribably melodic magic of Hahn's music connect with us thereby the more ably. Personally, I longed for some soft singing here and there and, whilst the tone is always most pleasant, at times I felt he was in danger of making the song a tad operatic. Just let the composer 'speak' for himself via a little less energy from this interpreter. True, it's a declamatory love song but it's a heartfelt expression by the poet, not an ardent plea for her favours. In modern parlance, had I been she I'd have said to this particular young man, "Lay off it, you're too much in my face!" Were the same guy to have adopted a gentler approach I'd have melted if I'd been the female object of his passionate confession. But what do I know? I'm just a bloke.
You have completely forgotten how to enjoy listening to music. Yes it's great to have that wealth of knowledge but at some point you have to make sure you haven't lost touch with the reason we all need music in the first place. He has a tremendous instrument and his connection to the emotion of the piece moved me. What good is that negative of a comment going to do? The arts are in danger we have to build each other up and encourage one another, not let competition and pride tear us down.
David Hughes I actually thought about this a bit. My idea at the time was that it was, because of the text, actually not a very subtle moment for him. The scene I put myself into during the song was one in which I pulled the girl into an alcove during a ball, and, after much anxiety and consternation, finally decide to let her know how I actually feel about her. The text I don't believe merits the subtle approach, and though it is inspired by baroque themes (indeed indicated through the gesturing) we must remember that it is not baroque, but Belle Époque. This is the time of people like Verlaine (a decidedly unsubtle kind of guy). Basically he's saying, if you love me, and I heard you do, then I am happier than a king, because you are better to me than how great people think ambrosia must b., I have seen it and it doesn't compare with the comfort your eyes bring me. If I died, I think I would be alright knowing what feels like. Not a very calculated move imo. This seems more like an expulsion of energy; of emotion.
By "too strong," do you mean correctly supported and fully engaged, with all overtones present? I am sick of whiny, unsupported, weak voices that cannot be heard beyond the first row of seats in a theatre!
So lovely! Was this for juries or a recital? I'm also learning this piece at the moment. I fell in love with it when I first heard it. Hope you're doing big things now, too!
Sure thing eventually when I get to some repretoire that involves those high notes, I can do the same thing. In my voice lessons I did sing up to a B natural on vocal excercises and it kind of did sound like Pavarotti's technique. :) I heard you sing Una Furtiva up to A flat which kind of sounds like him.
This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, and this stunning man's smile is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen.

I have heard numerous renditions of this song, but the musicality and expressiveness here is something truly special.
Dire que c'est magnifique n'est pas assez, c'est plus que sublime. Je n'ai pas de mots ...

First of all, I never expected the Tenor version to be SO GOOD. Second of all, this is so emotional
I mean it was written for tenor.
Merci beaucoup, tous!

Reynaldo Hahn a Venezuelan classical composer icon. More classical composers from that country that have not become famous as the Europeans.

beautiful voice maybe too strong from my point of view but indeed you are great ! thanks for sharing
By "too strong," do you mean correctly supported and fully engaged, with all overtones present? I am sick of whiny, unsupported, weak voices that cannot be heard beyond the first row of seats in a theatre!
Stunning.
rich and lovely like the helden tenors of recent times like Heppner.....and thoughtfully sung too. are you related to supermodel David Gandy?
I'm not sure; I have heard of him though. Maybe distantly. Thank you! :)
Mr. Gandy sings very nicely, but he's by no stretch of the imagination a heldentenor.
Where can I buy a CD of him singing this?
Awesome!
Que Lindooooo ❤️👏😍😘
Bravoooo !!!
Bravoooooooo !
So lovely! Was this for juries or a recital? I'm also learning this piece at the moment. I fell in love with it when I first heard it. Hope you're doing big things now, too!
What a beautiful voice, and he controls it. Where is he hiding?
Anne Roche I’m here but I am switching mediums. Not enough work for me in opera.
I am so sorry. Your voice is very special. Your timbre is so lovely. Best wishes for you and your career.
@@CullenGandyTenor with a voice as beautiful as your looks that seems so unfair, Best wishes and keep singing!
Drunk with love, apparently! ...moving
As a baritone, I love his voice an expression :) I found a role model :D
HE IS A FULL LYRIC TENOR.
Muy bello
Bravoooo
❤
Que lindo!
Can you sing a high note like Pavarotti? Nessun Dorma, La Donna E Mobile. etc. I like your voice. :)
I can, in fact, sing a high note, you have to decide whether or not it's like Pavarotti.

Good,,,!!!
Bravo!
smile~~~~~smile~~~~~~ ^^
Handsome!!!
Bellissimo. Wonderful. Wunderbach. Magnifique.
o my
Tout y est ! Parfaite interprétation de cette mélodie de Reynaldo Hahn un peu trop oublié hélas, alors merci à vous !
Hi are you still on earth?
I am. Although I now live in Chicago and sing with the lyric opera of Chicago full time chorus.
Same key I sing it in, except your F# comes out easier than mine does....kind of the Bermuda triangle of the voice in baritone land.
Haha I actually sang it in this key because this was the one on imslp. I'm actually a lyric tenor.
Cullen Gandy It works well for you, a pleasure to hear you.
He sings like a student of Kraus
Reynaldo composait, Marcel écoutait
