I LOVE McQueen because he seemed to genuinely love women and I get the sense that he understood our world; how we are used and abused, how strong and capable we are yet so vulnerable and emotional, and he deeply wanted to provide for us something that not many bothered with.
ive seen a quote attributed to him that said that he saw his mother abused by his father and it made him want to design clothes for women that would protect them and make them seem dangerous or smthn like that idk it's been a while since ive read it and idk if it's even true but it's a nice thought
Lena well, anyone would. He was a uniquely talented artist, designer and innovator and his collections left a tremendous legacy in fashion. I am still heartbroken about his passing.
@@MFTH-cam683 You seem to be rather missing the point of the comment though? It's meant to poke light fun at Luke, not say that he's somehow unique in his admiration for McQueen.

This was a blast from the past! I worked at Lee’s studio at the time, my job during this fashion show was to stand backstage just off the runway and help the models get off the runway and backstage...the contacts made it almost impossible for them to see once they exited the lights front of house. It was a hectic time in my life, but Lee was really a lovely guy. One of the few in the industry at the time who treated people ‘normally’. Thank you for the memories.
You are giving us what we need: an intelligent Analysis that respects the integrity of an artist. We could not find these full shows and fully assess the historical significance. HauteLeMode provides the receipts.
Part of the Victorian silhouette was created by setting sleeves further back on garments to enforce good posture which might be what the uncomfortable dress is referencing
When I read the pronunciation I was thinking WTF?! Am I understanding this wrong or something because that does not at all look like the same thing. Good for a laugh though.
This collection is such an ode to one of the national stories that seems so natural to us, that we don't really fathom the weight or connect to it. This collection really contextualises the themes and reveals the gravity of it all. Thanks for the review! It keeps the legend alive.
McQueen's 2007 show based on religious persecution and the Salem Witch Trials wasn't too far from this one. Happens to be one of my all time favorite runway shows in the history of fashion shows. Unfortunately you can't watch it anywhere with the original soundtrack and SFX which was much more foreboding than what's online now, guess there was some copyright issues. But I definitely remember that being a point where a lot of people were saying he was a devil worshipper thanks to that massive blood-colored pentagram on the circular floor that the models traced as a runway (that was so hardcore, love it).
Same it’s one of my faves and I fortunately got one of the looks. There is a couple of videos on TH-cam with the official soundtrack! If you are interested I can send you a link?
Okayyy I love the backstory but I think you’ll find it was the _English_ that were at war with the french. The name ‘Britain’ was only used officially after 1474, but modern day Great Britain refers to the island that consists of England, Scotland, and Wales. 👍🏻
McQueen is a true alchemist with fashion despite his personal demons...the kiss at the end of the runway symbolizing the combination of masculine and feminine energies was sublime 🖤 keep this series going. RIP Joan and RIP Alexander 😢 thank you.
that collection was so so good.Thx For educating the kids on this iconic Designer.I love your thorough history lessons on fashion, as a fellow history nerd i live for that. Also as a french, i dying listening to you trying to say compiègne i love your efforts tho lol
Joan of Arc and the Romanov sisters are all martyrs. So when you know that, the inclusion of the Romanovs in print makes a lot more sense. Also the use of this red, the color of martyrs. I like the use of the Romanovs, too, as it shows that not much has changed when it comes to the brutality against women, and how they are celebrated and worshiped only after death.
I was Not expecting a complete history lesson in a fashion video. This was the most delightful surprise I've had in awhile! This is way better work than I was prepared for and I'm so here for it! Thank you!
Since the death of McQueen, fashion has not really had any shows as iconic and daring as his. This was definitely one of my favorite shows/collections among many of his works.
I miss this level of showman in fashion shows… Lee and Galliano really knew how to make a show a spectacle in the best possible way… Also, if you have not already, I would live for you to cover the Givenchy Blade Runner show (a personal favorite)
Beautifully retold and researched history lesson and I think McQueen would be proud someone went through the trouble of pointing the concept behind his art out in such a thoughtful manner. I salute you.
more McQueen! Your knowledge of history is so enjoyable. As a high school teacher and a modeling coach, I just might make your videos be homework assignments! You rock! Don't stop!
About the quilted pieces: nations such as the Aztecs actually used quilted construction in their layered fabric armor which proved very effective against arrows and Spanish swords. Could the use of quilted fabric have been an intentional sort of multicultural nod to other forms of armor (also tying in to the context of fighting another nation)?
I'm kind old fashioned and just like what I like..quilted fabric has been something I liked to wear since I was a child I grew up in oregon and the winters were cold and lots of snow...quilted material kept me really warm and it was not heavy. It wasn't itchy like wool could be and it wasn't heavy like most warm coats could be. As an adult i have a quilted robe and a quilted jacket that I wear a lot when it gets cold and it makes me feel like I did as a child..and I'm forty years old. It's strange how certain cuts and certain fabrics can make you feel a certain way.
Hi. Common soldiers at the time of Joan of Arc wore something called a 'Jack of Plates', which was a quilted jacket with small pieces of iron sewn between the layers, they don't survive as often as the more usual plate armour as the fabric decays.
You are a delight! I have 3 ideas for your next fashion history videos. 1-Pat McGrath and her mastery of makeup and influence in fashion. 2-Erte inspired/ Art Nouveau and 3- top movie/ film villain icons and what they inspired and how their looks were created.
can I nominate maison margiela fall 2015 ready to wear for the next episode of this series? I feel like with the makeup and the attitude of the models really makes the show iconic and very on brand for Galliano
