In this video I take a look at the new RC from Traxxas, the Traxxas Hoss! I show it off and give a day one review. I also do some awesome tricks with it. Can I kick flip this bad boy? Watch and Find how?

Man I have been ollieing over everything. I saw where you broke the driveshaft on yours. I actually broke both front driveshafts today. I'll be getting metal drive shafts for all 4 wheels.

it does. I was trying to ollie and kickflip it on the ground at first. I need more practice at it. i think I can do it.

@@Blazer-lv3xe yeah, you are going to need a couple of spare drive shafts if you do ollies like that. Front ones. And the front and rear driveshafts are different.

✌🏻😎🏴I think it’s so responsive because it hasn’t got a slipper clutch. You can make all your rc’s respond like that if you tighten your slipper all the way. It will be interesting to see how many gears people go through.
I do kick flips all the time. I broke a toe link trying to do one without actually kicking it on tarmac/ash fault/blacktop the other day. During Claire’s RC live stream actually 😂. It’s hard on a flat surface.
I have tightened the slipper on other RC's and I always end up replacing Spur gears when i do.

Great video, I bought the Hoss about 3.5 weeks ago and loved it since the first time I used it, will be upgrading the shocks, and drivelines soon 💪💪💯💯

HOSS is the Ollie RC! I was very surprised how easily it does that. Not just marketing magic. It's very fun, if you can get past the Traxxas Tax MSRP.

On the keep it straight deal. I am a fan of speed, but coming from a stock rustler in the early 2000’s before all the brushless stuff came in and going to a T-maxx then original rustler VXL. The off-road trucks really don’t need to go more than the t-maxx used to go. About 35mph. Anything more is just for marketing. Leave the top speed for the on street cars. It goes sideways because they have an open diff, so one wheel gets more torque than the other depending on what wheel gets traction first and it causes to pull in that direction.

Hey great vid...jus a tip on the speed runs w the hoss. I dnt kno if u adjusted the role toe to get more stable runs at top speed. Also like the stampede I got the aluminum stub/drive axle carriers for the front especially!! Keep it up doin great job bro!!😎💯✊🏾

It's all a matter of preference, but I don't agree that the Hoss is better than the Rustler. I think it depends on the purpose. I have a Rustler 4x4 VXL that is set up for the track. I recently got a Hoss for bashing and installed the EHD kit, because it kept stripping the driveshafts. It's much better now, except that it keeps eating the 12mm hexes (I assume due to the high torque motor and heavy wheels), even though I'm only running 2S packs. I'm looking to upgrade to 17mm soon, and hope that is the last thing before I can call it a beast.

9:25 - Re. keeping it straight being hard, it's the tires ballooning, then you're only running on the ballooned part in the middle and you get the dreaded "speed wobbles".
17:33 - Re. wishing it was a little quicker, it might have to do with the low C Traxxas pack. The thing is that most other 3S packs won't even fit without the optional battery strap, and even then, it's iffy. See Razor's video on it for more on that. th-cam.com/video/HQ3CMuuB3Fg/w-d-xo.html
19:50 - Jump/ollie/kick-flip. That was rad, and you got it on camera! I don't think I would've believed it if you didn't. You should edit the video to show that stunt with no comments and then just move along, as if you do it all the time. ;-)
23:00 - No blown-off shock caps?! That's a minor miracle!
26:15 - vs. Rustler 4x4: Rustler would handle better on dirt and pavement; corners flatter. For example racing on a dirt track or BMX course.
27:00 - re. batteries. I refuse to buy Traxxas batteries & chargers. They're very expensive for what they are. Almost no manual control on the chargers, either. Immediately cut the plug off the ESC, put an XT90 on, and source another battery. You'll get two for the price of a Traxxas battery, and they'll have double the C rating as well. For the Maxx, I got a pair of 4S 5200 50C for $120, and they already had the XT90s on. They're a bit small, but I cut foam spacer blocks, as they need shock absorption anyway. (as we can see by your crunched battery)
Great video overall, but I can't agree that it's a good value or that the Maxx is significantly more. This seems over-priced by $100 to me.

The Hoss, is fast but breaks very easily. Buddy of mine had gotten one then in the second day it broke. He is new to the Hobby but what he broke 2 times in same place was a downer. Front differentials were they connect to the hubs of the wheels , that part breaks all the time... plastic, it should be a lot thicker for the price I would not buy it there's a lot of other vehicles out there they're a lot cheaper, other brands , you've got to look into it and make sure they sell the parts for them. That's all I've got say about this thrashed!

It was $50 more the day I made this video on their site. I looked at it just before filming.

No. Maybe the gears. The driveshafts wont. I broke two of them today.

Hey! So I’m having a conversation with someone about model run times. Could you do a video comparing the hoss, maxx, and revo run times? I get 30+ minutes from my revo using the traxxas 5ah 3s packs.
I've had a few people ask me to do something like that. Run times change so much depending on how you drive and everything else.
I’m new to this. I have no clue what you are talking about lol. I want a 4x4 rv that’s fast but it doesn’t need to be crazy fast. If I buy a hoss does it come with everything I need? Or do I need to get a bunch of extras ? Do they all come with remote, batteries, charger?
They come with everything but the battery and charger. Normally people will have like 5 RC's and use the same battery and charger for all of them.

Yeah, but the drive train doesnt handle heavier tires very well. i tried it. Stripped a spur, killed a servo, and broke a drive shaft.

Hi there I'm a newbie and bought the hoss this evening. I love it's one beautiful truck! Question for you if ya don't mind. When the truck comes to a stop on its own slow speed i hear a grind noise. I heard it's something to do with a clutch? Thanks in advance just worried about the noise before i really get into it. EDIT!! if i would of finished before commenting i would of known yours makes the same sound! I can sleep tonight now!! 😜 Thank you for the review I'll definitely drop a sub!!

I have thought for a while that the stampede 4x4 vxl is being overshadowed by the hoss and maxx and rustler 4x4 vxl and now on traxxas' website, the stampede 4x4 vxl is out of stock (something i noticed with the e maxx, aton and e revo 1st gen before they got discontinued) so I reckon that maybe they might discontinue the stampede 4x4 vxl BUT will keep the stampede vxl 2wd version.

good way to ruin driveshafts by self rite i never use it
I used it a few times so that I would be able to tell people if it worked well. I dont normally use it.
For that amount of money you'd at least expect Steel driveshafts (my $250 brushless RC truck has them!!) and good shocks. But with traxxas you often get less than what you pay for :/ 👎
I’d rather have to replace a plastic driveshaft than my differentials. Metal pieces transfer strain to more critical areas, kinda like how everyone uses plastic A arms and spur gears.. just better off that way. That and replacing plastic parts is so much cheaper to replace especially when you’d have to really bash it to break a driveshaft

I dont think the steel driveshafts are necessary. I have a rustler 4x4 Vxl and a maxx and they both got plastic driveshafts, and I’ve never never broke or bent them, so its not a big deal.
Mitch & Shane Productions agreed. I feel like if you break a plastic shaft you’d bend a steel shaft anyway and have to replace it either way. Only difference is the cost is probably 5x for metal parts
@@jarrettmaltry6305 definitely not. Proper steel driveshafts don't bend as easily as plastic ones break. And if they do bend you can often hammer them back into shape and they'll be fine :)

Great video! Awesome to see the enthusiasm, man! That self-righting feature is a spur gear killer! After it stripped my gear the 2nd time on my Rustler I gave up on it and just stroll on over and flip it over the good ol fashioned way lol. The only thing that bums me out about the Hoss is that price point. I was hoping to get one once I saw the announcement videos but for $80 more I think I'll get myself a Maxx for that 4S power. 😁 Thanks again for the vid and keep up the good work!

If the hoss had gtr shocks metal shaft metal hexes and better servo maybe the 470$ could be justified but you need gtr shocks hexes and fans because the motor does overheat and the esc goes into thermal even with the fan maybe metal shaft you are at 140$ more on a 470$ to make it a real machine maxx all the way no point of getting the hoss or the rustler for 50$ more you get a tank out of the box

So I just got a maxx a couple weeks ago thought about later on getting a hoss. Is it worth it ? Or should I just upgrade my maxx ??
I'd take the Hoss over the Maxx honestly. It's my favorite small RC and I almost never run my Maxx.

I already have the Rustler and the MAXX, so I don't think I would get the HOSS too. I love using the PVC drift wheels on the Rustler, that's more fun than jumping it. It's always fun to see what you're up tho.

If I may add my two cents to your review, I bought the Hoss, and I like it. It will really haul butt in stock form with a 3s battery. If you would like very adequate running, yet toned down a bit for someone new to the sport, a 7-cell NiMh battery will run this truck just fine.

Can you please check for me if possible that a spectrum smart 3S battery will fit into the hoss ? I think it will need the traxxas battery extension kit, but I think the dimensions are similar for the spectrum battery to fit into the traxxas battery tray with the adapter. I know I will need adapters to go from IC5 to a traxxas
It fits in the tray, but the battery clip does not work with it. The battery is too tall. I dont know if there is a much taller battery clip, but you will need it. The battery is so tall that even the flat battery clip from the Ruster 2nd gen wont work.

New Granite BLX or Traxxas Hoss and why? Looking for a Basher truck and something that can also go over some rougher terrain well.
I dont know much about the Granite. I have a friend with one and I know he broke the chassis on it pretty quickly.
@@outsourcedrc Fair enough, I appreciate the reply all the same. Also in case you know, I have a Losi Rock Rey with a Vaterra center diff locker and 500K front diff oil. It has a constant squeak squeak squeak as it's driving. The squeak speeds up and slows down with the motor speed. I have completely pulled it back apart and cleaned out everything and scraped the gears clean but the squeak sound remains. It does not change with load. I tried the motor alone and it is not from that. I also tried hand spinning as much as possible while apart and was unable to replicate by hand. Not spinning fast enough I assume. Any ideas or people I could ask. Have checked some forums but most are a different noise then mine.
@@thisandthat454 I'm not sure. Thats hard to figure out with out having it here in person. i would disconnect everything, and put the drive train back together Once piece at a time and test it until you find the piece that is making it squeek.

Outsourced RC lol I know how much they cost I have 40 with no TH-cam help. Bought new losi lasernut this week and outcast 8s week before. But 1 car every 8months isn’t a lot but if u tried losi maybe channel will grow faster to ppl other then traxxas fans. Just a thought
