Thomas Hardy is one of my favorite authors; I'll be reading Far From the Madding Crowd for Victober. I'll be joining the Spurgeon read along and also reading Vilette by Charlotte Brontë for Victober as well. Kristin Lavransdattar was fantastic, hope you enjoy it. 😊
I was telling Deea the other day I am almost done with Kristin Lavransdatter. I have the final book left. So far it has been good! A lot goes on in it. Her father is one of my favorite characters in the first book.
I went ahead and used a credit on Audible for The Trumpet-Major, so I'll be listening to it (and trying to finish another knitting/crocheting project) I think I am most excited for Spurgeon and Kristen. I have been anticipating reading them for so long, so it feels highly emotional to finally be doing it! Hooray for finally having some buddy reads! That is definitely what I am most looking forward to.
Yes, I feel like I’ve waited so long for Spurgeon and Kristin! Even better that I get to read them with you! Here’s hoping Trumpet-Major is a winner for you!
I love A Murder is Announced - one of her best I think. I am doing Victober but seriously need to weed my list of possibilities down. I may have to add Three Men in a Bummel to my list!
Ooo, I keep hearing people say A Murder is Announced is one of their favorites! I’m really excited! Can’t wait to hear what you end up reading for Victober!
Yay! I can't wait to hear what you think of Kristin Lavransdatter. I read the earlier, sub-par translation, but hope to reread it in that translation someday. It's fascinating in so many ways. The first book was 5 stars, and the next two 4 stars for me. My only priorities for October at the moment are The Doctor's Wife and Can You Forgive Her. I'm waiting for The Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb from the library.
I think Deea might have the older translation, because her book is a lot older. I’m really looking forward to it though! It feels like we align quite frequently, so hearing your rating makes me more confident I’ll enjoy it! You have great October plans!
If Deea has the Charles Archer translation, that's the one I read. I later heard he edited parts out to sanitize it for 1920s audiences and that the Nunnelly translation is far superior as far as readability. I really want to read it again now. 😫
Ohhh that Wells! I might listen to War of the Worlds so I can knit at the same time. Same for The Importance of being Earnest. I've already started slowly reading some Victorian: Dr Thorne and The Moonstone and some Sherlock. I plan to keep adding Sherlock in here and there. Oliver Twist is on the list. Definitely the Hardy book with our group. I'm also reading 2 of Eliot's short stories with that group I've been in all year and they will be finishing up her works with these. I'm not trying to complete all of her books but I'll be close. And yes the Spurgeon book.
I have so much on my plate for October! I just want to do all the things. I am going to try to read one or two books for Victober as well. I am looking forward to reading Honest Faith next month.
I’m nearly finished with book two of Kristin Lavransdatter and I’m enjoying it so much more than when I last talked to you! I think you’ll really enjoy it!
I didn't know you were reading it Whitney! I liked book 1 more than 2 but it was just a shocking change of pace from 1 to 2. 3 stays a similar pace to 2.
@@Thecatladybooknook_PennyDI read the first book last month, and I agree with you - I enjoyed it more than the second book. The second book is picking up for me, though, so I hope to enjoy the rest of it more! I’m planning on reading the third book in October.
My Pile of Possibilities grew into a Tower so I’ll probably make November an extension of Victober. 🤓 My tower includes: Dombey and Son by Dickens (to keep from spoiling ⬇️ The Doctor’s Wife by Mary Elizabeth Braddon Phineas Finn by Anthony Trollope The Houmd of Baskerville by Doyle The Moonstone by Collins Wuthering Heights by E. I’m picking up The October Country, too! I’m in the middle as I read a couple of the stories each fall! I just read The Lake recently. I love his writing. 🥹♥️
Best wishes with what you choose to read. I hope you get some great stories.

@Thecatladybooknook_PennyD that was what someone said to me in a FB group. I'd love to read the Tina Nunnally translation soon so I can compare!
A Murder is Announced is one of my favorite Agatha Christie/ Miss Marple books!

I very greatly value your expert opinion on Agatha Christie books, so now I’m even more excited to read it!
