  • For over 100 years, Portlanders have been getting fresh local produce from the Central Eastside. Produce Row, located along an unassuming stretch of industrial district near the Willamette River, is home to a tight-knit network of Italian American families who have been serving Portland farm-to-table for generations - way before it was cool. And everything that makes the Pacific Northwest a foodie paradise is here in this neighborhood: from the history, to the food, to the people who care about getting it to your plate.

“Superabundant” is a show about the connections between food, science and people. At the heart of everything foodie are the ingredients themselves-and nowhere in America is the obsession over ingredients more than in the Pacific Northwest. These are the stories behind the foods you love. www.opb.org/sh...

If you get a chance, eat at Produce Row Café. It used to be quirky and a little run down but has since renovated it and it is quite nice inside. The food has always been good, probably the best BLT I have ever had for lunch. I know that is not a big brag but, go try it.

You misspelled "growers"; my Italian immigrant ancestors in Silverton used to provide a large quantity of strawberries, among other goods, to the entire valley and beyond.

Fun fact: John Zupan's first job was at Sheridan Fruit Company. I think that's pretty apparent when you go into Zupan's. They're all laid out with the exact same departments as Sheridan, it's just bigger. And more expensive. And filthy.
