Euphoria lives rent free in my head, the lyrics, the flow, the inflections and beat switches m. ive even started listening to the instrumental just to perform it all myself.
I absolutely agree. I love Not Like Us, but Euphoria is a stone-cold psychological dismantling of Aubrey Graham, bar by bar, zero filler or drag despite being over 6 mins long. I also love Kendrick's adlibs - so simple yet so effectively done. It really shows how he takes the time to ensure every single aspect of the track is packed with meaning and impact, from his lyrics to his flows to his vocal intonation. The beat and switches are also extremely effective, and the changes in mood from calm to aggressive to cold-blooded to mocking are just incredible.
Finally someone who appreciates euphoria how it should be, I truly believed euphoria was the best diss out of all of them, and no one else seemed to notice but kendrick was right, "5% will comprehend but 95 is loss"
"V12 its a fast one" after the abs bar is a double too, a V12 machine is used in cryolipolysis (cosmetic surgery that removes fat by freezing it) as well as the car engine/drive-by shooting implication (I love the BOW-BOW-BOW part so much!)
The post-8-bars explanation process was already done before by Kendrick Lamar himself in Mona Lisa ft. Wayne: "in a minute, he gon' be admitting that he loves her", then a minute later, there he goes... Wonderful plot
8:35 brother this is from the heart part four. Kendrick is confirming his fans suspicions. Cause we thought it was Big Sean and drake he was talking about. When he said this I freaked out. Been waiting on Drakes death like the reaper.
1. Shoo x6 2. Bi x6 3. Hm x6 4. Crodie x6 5. Nothin’ bout that x6 6. ? He took 6 from the ‘6 God’. But there must be one more set of 6 ‘something’ to have 6 sets of 6. But I can’t find it. Can you? 👀 Edit: could be “I hate the way you…” x6 But I dunno, too lazy to count right now 😅
You're a genius man I didn't even notice this but the last one is "Okay." There's 5 in the first few lines then the 6th one is after he says "Have you ever played have you ever" man Kendrick is so calculated I'm mind blown by this! 🤯 He also says "huh" 6 times too so it could be more in there. lol
Bro you right. 6 things Kendrick said he hates from Drake. He hates the way that he “Walks”(1)the way that he “Talks”(2)He hates the way that he “Dress”(3)He hates the way that he “Sneak Diss”(4)when he catch flight it’s gone be direct. We hate the “Bitches He Fucks”(5)cause they confuse themselves with real women. And the last hate comes later when he says that he even hates when he says the word “Nigga”(6)but that’s just him he guess. Some shit just cringeworthy, it ain’t even gotta be deep he guess.
“WHAT IS IT THE BRAIDS?” In black culture, When a person has a attitude with everyone and happens to have tight braids, that’s a way to call it out. Example, “Bro you trippin, you cool? Is yo braids too tight? Goofys!
The writers credits on Euphoria or any Kendrick song are the producers and other musicians/composers involved in the track. Like the 616 in la song probably has Al Green listed as a writer, it doesn't mean he was ghost writing for Kendrick Lamar
I'm not gunna lie, I have always been a huge kdot and cole fan and I didn't understand why kdot thought he was in a league of his own until this beef. I knew DNA and TPB were master pieces in their own right but For your eyez only was also amazing story telling in its own right but after this battle and the level of writing/planning for him to absolutely whup drake this bad I think I finally get it. He truly is a level above them, and I'm sure there are rapper out there that Kendrick could see as competition but none of them get the kind of recognition/fame that drake and cole get.
I thought I was the only one who felt like this. Euphoria is one of my favorite songs. Not even for the fact that it's about drake. The song in general.
@@chainlink2348just because you don't like it as a diss track doesn't mean everyone who feels opposite is wrong or don't know what a diss track consists of. You're entitled to your opinion like everyone else is. Plus music is subjective.
A quick note to add to the 22:55 is Micheal Jackson also has a song,”The way you make me feel”. In it he sings,”…the way you walk, your talk your dress….” Mr. Kendrick Lamar is indeed a gifted lyricist.❤ for the culture.
Every time I listen to euphoria, I feel like I hear something new and then when he did it live at the pop out that was a whole new level of appreciation for the song
Man, I adore the way you analyze rap and the cultural connections to society within. You show a real passion for rap appreciation as an art form! 👏🏾 You made me become an even bigger Kendrick fan.
Thank you I can NOT stop listening to Euphoria and I thought I was dragging it!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 this song really made Kendrick the GOAT for me. That song is lyrically genius
I saw one reactor’s video and they caught and explain “once a lame, always a lame” also refers to him being on that tv show since lame originated from being “crippled”
Your essay is perfection, I concur! Love the lyrical breakdown. It has been amazing to see Kendrck's level of artistry. I cannot stop listening to Euphoria. Even when I'm not playing it, it's playing in my head, thats some powerful art! He out-performed Drake on every single level & yes the ab-libs are everything lol. We watched a master at work & I feel privileged to watch it!. K-Dot is special, he deserves to wear that crown! Keep up the good work, great commentary!
the poker scheme( poker face, open case, came out straight) and the jail scheme which sets up the melly bar (8 bars, talk on no celly, language barriers(walls), sell (cell)me. Euphoria is 🔥🔥
I think it's the best as well. I still can't move past it. I love all the others too, but the first time I heard Euphoria, I felt like I didn't have a single moment to breathe or rest. It's a 6 something minute song and it went by like a 2 minute song and it still hit the spot and left me completely full. My second fave is 6:16 in LA. That's a masterpiece too, but for different reasons personally. Probably the best written lyrics I've ever heard in a song, and some of the best writing I've ever read or heard in the English language period. Ugh it's so beautiful. Kendrick was born a genius. ❤
Ghost writing isn't about drake getting "help" like most musicians RAP is rhythm and POETRY if you can't write your own poems you can't be considered a rapper most producers are given writing credits because they've helped create the song but the RAPS make it the problem
You are the only reactor that caught the genius of the “ in eight bars I’ll explain that phrase “ and then in eight bars ….he did ! No one else ( and I think I’ve watched them all lol ) mentioned it !
I love how he broke down the meaning of the bars. I heard one person explain the Y.N.W. Melly reference, "I love 'em to death and in 8 bars I'll explaim that phrase" . . . "I pray they're my real friends; if not, I'm Y.N.W. Melly", who reportedly killed two.of his close friends, who were also rising rap stars.
Finally someone appreciate the art of that track...this track is truly art..the beat change, different mood of personality..each beat change got a different personality, the way he rapped... beautiful.
Euphoria was an utter masterpiece, I knew when Kdot was taking his time to release his response that he was going to put together something special and he definitely didn't disappear. My favorite set had to be the hellcat bars was pretty sick once you pull back the layers.
someone had mentioned that the "shoo bee" was reference to kdot calling him a "shoobie." For those who don't know the meaning its basically a single day tourist. They break it further down by saying that kdot is calling drake a tourist (since he's from canada) and adopted the culture he knew nothing about
I love how all of Kendrick’s diss tracks are elite to the point any can be the best, I think it’s comes down to stylistic preference, ‘euphoria’ was an all-you-can-eat diss, it had a bit of everything, the sheer versatility of the bars distributed by the three beats was a masterclass, and ‘6:16’ in LA was a whole diss in the style of drake, beating him with his own game, the first part doesn’t even sound like a diss because that’s how drake does it, warning him and than ‘meet the grahams’ was the cannibalistic horror track of Drake’s whole family being dissected on a eerie, haunted and scary instrumental, and to balance out all the heavy themes discussed, ‘not like us’ was the club anthem to demonstrate how kendrick can do what drake does, even better, as the numbers speak for themselves, but it’s also the thematic end of the entire beef, as Kendrick began with a feature on ‘like that’ demonstrating how/why Drake is not ‘like us’ part of our culture, all of these songs could be considered the best diss, because all of them are so good, for different reasons.
Meet The Grahams and Not Like Us got me immediately and I love them a lot. But as the weeks go by, my love for Euphoria has just grown and grown and it's coming close to being my favourite. Not a word wasted. And what a performance! Genius.
10:40 I saw a commenter on another video mention that shoobie is actually slang... "Shoobie is a New Jersey, Delaware, and Southern California slang term for a tourist who visits the seashore for a day (a daytripper) or summer-only residents".... So this could be Kendrick saying that Drake is just a Tourist in Hip Hop culture.
OMG…. FINALLY… someone sees this as I do. I feel the exact same way. “Euphoria” is without a doubt a masterpiece & my absolute favorite. I listen to it numerous times everyday. It showed, his time on responding & why. I see him walking talking, & warning not only Drake but others why he’s not the one to come for. This man has became my therapist.
26:50 Thanks for the stats on "Mr. Morale." As stated, ppl want to claim Kendrick's assertion (my first one [hit album] is like my last one) is not true, but it is.
Modulations of his voice alone were so fire!! (and then of course the lyricism, the psychology, the beat switches, the way it grows in intensity over the course of the song, the layers that keep peeling back the more you listen to it, the role it plays in the arc of songs overall -- outlining and foreshadowing everything he was about to unleash). Damn.
Intro response: I totally feel you about Eurohoria. However, the fact that people keep calling his proven child attraction rumors only proves the fact that people are zoned out and this country doesn't give AF about children. Those are NOT allegations. Where do people think these videos are coming from? Drake's actions and his "whipped and chained like American slaves" lyrics have been overlooked for far too long and Kendrick just showed us that he's tired of that corny actor getting away with cosplaying BLACK AMERICAN HIP-HOP CULTURE!
As this songs get older and folks really take time to pick em apart bar by bar, word by word, just like kendrick's albums, we wall witness the legendary penmanship and sheer warrior philosopher mentality of the man. He's simply the best to ever have touched the mic. There's no contest. Perhaps the man Pac was gonna become with age. Sober and wiser.
Good breakdown. But the "what is it the BRAIDS?" Was referring to drakes braids. He was basically saying, "you think your a G now?" That's how I heard it. ✌🏿
Someone said it's referring to Kendrick always wearing braids being natural being himself you know like excuse me when I say this his braids aren't always the neatest. But I thought exactly what you thought too much to break down will be trying to figure it out for years thank you for that response the man can do no wrong he needs to run for president mayor or something
He says “you got shit twisted. What is it the braids?” Literal meaning drake has his hair twisted(braided). Culturally, When someone says what is it the braids it’s like picking at a person. You got shit confused cause your braids are to tight. Hence the tonality and expression on what is the braids. Hurt yo feelings…. He’s mocking him
Agreed - I was literally in a depressive runt for months. Got into my car and ‘Eurphoria’ dropped - it literally WOKE ME UP. And since then keep me buzzing. The creativity of it all was amazing
The part where Kendrick says I Hates the ways you walks, talk and dress…there a video of Kendrick telling a story about waking up on his tour bus and the crew were laughing at DMX's "I Hate Drake" rant. Drake found out that Kendrick also was laughing and that really hurt Drake’s feelings. I think that is why Kendrick said it because Drake will remember how he felt when he heard Kendrick and his crew laughed at him.
Whoopin feet is also what the slave masters did to keep the slaves from running away. I think Kendrick knew Drake was going to have that slave reference in family Matters and snuck this reference in there for that as well. I think kendrick was saying he is gonna whoop Drake so bad he won't be able to run any where.
The Shoobie line I've seen people say it's that Drake is a tourist in the rap game, just using it as like a temporary vacation type thing that you don't really care about the place you're visiting because you're eventually going to leave.
I feel like it is calling shoobie the tourist because as a Californian we have a lot of tourists visiting and they are always disrespectful to our "home" knowing they aren't staying here like we are.
Ya, when this dropped, I knew it was A Banger, if you know Kendrick and his catalog, he is masterful in using Sonically to project emotion. The beats say it all, but the writing is impeccable. This is a Masterpiece and is aging like Fine Wine! Respect, I ha eat even gotten Into the vid yet. Buy I know you will do this justice and I'm excited to see which bars you pick!!!! 🙏
Sorry. Commenting as I get thru I guess, but the key word there is Mistakes, meaning he shot at Drake several Tymes but he was aiming to high and missing, ima aim down so when this song recoil lifts up the Drake, I hit the target Direct, multiple shots, so he's also predicting that this is the one where he will hit the Target, like now I know!!! He said Quintuple Entendres and got that on the title, there is a whole Kill Bill ref there too where Bill shoots her with the truth serum, The Undeniable Truth, Bill explains that she's unable to tell the truth when it comes to Bill, but also herself, then he proceeds to explain Batman and spider man wake up as BW and PP, but superman wakes up Superman, there is no mask, or costume, so he's pulling back the curtain exactly like The Wiz quote in beginning backwards states, man there is so much, but you picked some good ones so far bro!!!🙏 Keep going!!!!
This is the Best Breakdown I've herd that I can fully understand the Lyrics. I listen from the Beginning to the end, that's how Much your Reaction Holds my Interest 😊. You Just Gain a Subscriber. EUPHORIAS GREATNESS Kendrick Lamar.
24:00 The I hate reference from Kendrick was also a flip of Michael Jackson's lyrics on, The Way You Make Me Feel. I haven't seen any reactors catch that yet.
Kendrick can be talking about drake’s braids too. You gotta start from the previous 2 bars. “Cutthroat business. ‘You got shit twisted’. What is it? The raids? I hurt your feelings? You don’t wanna work with me no more?” All questions are directed from the You Got Shit Twisted bar
I made it as far as 7:23 mark of #3 before some Drake glazing started annoying me. There's a huge difference with credit on Dot's songs - the people credited on Dot's records are contributing music NOT lyrics. Unlike Drake who's co-opting people's music, lyrics, and flow and putting his name on the credits to make people think he wrote the song- Dot (as do most rappers) credits the writers of the beats and other music he's sampling. The two things are NOT the same. People need to stop making excuses for Drake - including the idiots who work with him and let him steal their work.
The "psst ,that's somethin` you don't wanna do", i feel like is foreshadowing of the intro to "Not like us" which is kinda crazy, but if you listen the two tracks back to back i believe you will see the connection
Part of me blames pusha t for ruining rap beefs, bc when this first came out there was a big convo going on about whether it was even a good diss bc “he didn’t reveal anything new” when in reality its a lyrical masterclass where every single bar is layered
Euphoria is very much an underrated masterpiece. Kendrick is pure genius. People are so shallow. They need to listen to this many times. Every single time I hear it, which is a couple times a day, I hear something more ingenious than the previous time before that. Pure genius!!
When he says “Have you ever walked your enemy down with a poker face” and then says “well I have, and I failed at both but I came out straight” That’s a play on words as well. “Straight” and “poker face” as in straight faced.
I appreciate the time you took to break this down and write an essay. It was a very bar laden, multi entendres record. Great work One line that was a sleeper to me “tell em run to America to imitate heritage, they can’t imitate this violence.” Then Drake really tried to clown KDot as someone who ain’t really affiliated. Compton is a gang affiliation hub. You can’t be there and not be affiliated. Drake is mad jealous of who KDot is.
Finally someone sees Euphorias greatness. I thought he could have ended it there, though I am glad he went for the scorched earth approach.😂
Nah. We couldn't leave any doubters. Only the crazy and insane are left saying Drake didn't lose this beef

Me, too! The music is divine!!!!❤
I never thought about the instrumental version I just been bumping Teddy p original version it sounds just as good
I absolutely agree.
My daughter and I reaffirmed the fact that we got to be the smartest people in about a thousand mile radius we are amongst the 5% tile in You 2
"V12 its a fast one" after the abs bar is a double too, a V12 machine is used in cryolipolysis (cosmetic surgery that removes fat by freezing it) as well as the car engine/drive-by shooting implication (I love the BOW-BOW-BOW part so much!)
Pow! Pow! Pow! last one HEADSHOT FOR THE YEAR YOU BETTA WALK AROUND LIKE DAFT PUNK!
The post-8-bars explanation process was already done before by Kendrick Lamar himself in Mona Lisa ft. Wayne: "in a minute, he gon' be admitting that he loves her", then a minute later, there he goes... Wonderful plot
Euphoria is an absolute masterpiece for me. My favorite diss track from this whole ordeal, by far!
Not only is Euphoria a great diss, but it’s a great song too. Definitely a vibe while cruising on the highway with the windows down a lil bit.
8:35 brother this is from the heart part four. Kendrick is confirming his fans suspicions. Cause we thought it was Big Sean and drake he was talking about. When he said this I freaked out. Been waiting on Drakes death like the reaper.
I’ve been listening the euphoria more than not like us the past few weeks. So many bars and such great energy.
euphoria, best diss track which is severely overlooked
1. Shoo x6
2. Bi x6
3. Hm x6
4. Crodie x6
5. Nothin’ bout that x6
6. ?
He took 6 from the ‘6 God’.
But there must be one more set of 6 ‘something’ to have 6 sets of 6.
But I can’t find it.
Can you? 👀
Edit: could be “I hate the way you…” x6
But I dunno, too lazy to count right now 😅
You're a genius man I didn't even notice this but the last one is "Okay." There's 5 in the first few lines then the 6th one is after he says "Have you ever played have you ever" man Kendrick is so calculated I'm mind blown by this!
4 have you evers in euphoria. The final 2 in 6:16 😮 also 6 words before he strips it from Drake 😅
@@latinajoseph The way it's all connected man Kendrick is the real life Boogeyman! Lol
You might be onto something.
"He a fan
He a fan
He a fan
He a fan
He a fan
He a..."
drake getting dissed by the aftermath of the diss in essayform - it's not a battle it's a psychological breakdown
He needs to reach ground zero... Get off the high horse
Yeah he's not going to pick it up in first period
“WHAT IS IT THE BRAIDS?” In black culture, When a person has a attitude with everyone and happens to have tight braids, that’s a way to call it out. Example, “Bro you trippin, you cool? Is yo braids too tight? Goofys!
Euphoria and 6:16 in LA are so good .. I still play them as well!
6:16 is my personal favorite
Euphoria has been my favorite since it came out!
The writers credits on Euphoria or any Kendrick song are the producers and other musicians/composers involved in the track. Like the 616 in la song probably has Al Green listed as a writer, it doesn't mean he was ghost writing for Kendrick Lamar
Thank you for explaining! I was sweating for a second.
@@RapPhilosophyall good lol. All producers and artists who were sampled get songwriting credits as well
I brought this up as well. I’m like nah, Kendrick wrote that all by himself lol
@@RapPhilosophyAl Green is 78 years old?!!!! You thought he was writing on a diss track?
@@JustHere751 the OP was referring to 616 in LA.
The song in general.
decent song but its a god awful diss. i swear nobody knows what a diss track is supposed to be like anymore gassing all these shit kendrick tracks
You made me become an even bigger Kendrick fan.
The Benjamin line is referring to Michael Jackson’s pet rat who’s name was Benjamin 😂😂😂
Thank you!! 😂😂
Hollllyy
@@RapPhilosophy is that a double or triple entendre??
MJs song "Ben" 😁
And the movie Michael sang the soundtrack to, Ben
Elite rapping on euphoria for sure
Thank you I can NOT stop listening to Euphoria and I thought I was dragging it!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 this song really made Kendrick the GOAT for me. That song is lyrically genius
You're not the only one.
Dead ass. Euphoria has an unbelievable amount of stopping power.
The sho-bee bar is definitely a reference to the term shoobie California slang for a tourist
The fact he opened Ken n friends w Euphoria...fkn amazing 🤩
Chill straight up, chills for the whole song I loved the song before. But when I heard him do it live, It was insane.
So true. Euphoria is hands down the greatest diss song ever recorded. When I heard this I knew it was over.
This is such a wonderful explanation. I'm sold. I really enjoy your detailed take in this and it's SPOT ON!
the poker scheme( poker face, open case, came out straight) and the jail scheme which sets up the melly bar (8 bars, talk on no celly, language barriers(walls), sell (cell)me.
He didn’t let up on euphoria. Slaughter.
great break down, you explained a lot of what I felt but didnt know how to convey. stay blessed fam 🫡
You are doing an amazing job deconstructing the lyrics! Love it
"Rich Spirit" "Stop playing with me before I turn into a song"❤❤
"shoo shoo" is even better if you remember that those adlibs were also used in N95 and Count Me Out 👀
Finally someone appreciate the art of that track...this track is truly art..the beat change, different mood of personality..each beat change got a different personality, the way he rapped...
They break it further down by saying that kdot is calling drake a tourist (since he's from canada) and adopted the culture he knew nothing about
Bro I appreciate you for this. This is a masterpiece.
New subscriber here. I just came across your videos and I loved the ones I’ve watched already. Euphoria and Meet the Grahams are my two favorites.
100% Euphoria has value in replay … instant classic!!!
I love how 95% of this song is just calling Drake a poser.
@@davidfuller581exactly on point!!
14:37 don’t forget a male duck is called a Drake
6:16 is underrated. Started off rapping as Drake is crazy
Euphoria is definitely my favorite..no filler to be found
As this songs get older and folks really take time to pick em apart bar by bar, word by word, just like kendrick's albums, we wall witness the legendary penmanship and sheer warrior philosopher mentality of the man. He's simply the best to ever have touched the mic. There's no contest. Perhaps the man Pac was gonna become with age. Sober and wiser.
Euphoria is also my favorite, it demonstrates why Kendrick won a Pulitzer. It’s pure genius, while Not Like Us is what I bop to.🎶🎵🎼✌🏾
Shoobie is also a cali slang for an outsider coming to visit cali for vacation.
So with ablibs he’s calling him a visitor in black culture/ hip hop
He’s mocking him
@@CuroNeko13 right.
The meaning of euphoria alone AND the show euphoria which Drake produced is sooooooo genius! Especially knowing the plot of the show.
The artistic work in euphoria was top notch
24:00 The I hate reference from Kendrick was also a flip of Michael Jackson's lyrics on, The Way You Make Me Feel. I haven't seen any reactors catch that yet.
No one writes or helps Kendrick write his raps, credit is to the sample music, which was originally done by Teddy Pendagrass
Kendrick can be talking about drake’s braids too. You gotta start from the previous 2 bars. “Cutthroat business. ‘You got shit twisted’. What is it? The raids? I hurt your feelings? You don’t wanna work with me no more?” All questions are directed from
the You Got Shit Twisted bar
I’ve never had someone say how I was feeling and answered questions without me asking. Well done sir.
Euphoria is crazy, still catching things from it. Easy top 3 diss track, maybe 1
I think he saying them braids so tight, got your brain twisted to come at me like that🤣🤣🤣
Euphoria was the best song out of this entire beef. The delivery is so cold, I've made entire animated movies for each verse.
Euphoria goes so hard. Gets my mind and blood pumpin
And that makes brain cells ELECTRIFY 🎤📍
When he says “Have you ever walked your enemy down with a poker face” and then says “well I have, and I failed at both but I came out straight”
That’s a play on words as well. “Straight” and “poker face” as in straight faced.
I appreciate the time you took to break this down and write an essay. It was a very bar laden, multi entendres record. Great work
One line that was a sleeper to me “tell em run to America to imitate heritage, they can’t imitate this violence.” Then Drake really tried to clown KDot as someone who ain’t really affiliated. Compton is a gang affiliation hub. You can’t be there and not be affiliated. Drake is mad jealous of who KDot is.
Great job on this video👏👏👏
Great breakdown!
