I was there when they first sang it in the Superdome. I am proud to say that I live in New Orleans are very happy they made this song to bring back a little bit of our strength after Katrina hit.
This is for New Orleans. If U2 and Green Day are the only artist in the world to help a city in need than they deserve respect. They brought my city a million tears of JOY in place of a trillion tears of SADNESS. Just look at what they did at the Superdome. It brought out my tears too. I saw it live well T.V. and it was the most moving thing I have ever witnessed. That city needed this song. They need the Saints. This is for NEW Orleans the greatest city in the world. PEACE!!!
thunderr649xdm40 Then that says a lot in and of itself. As long as we follow that ideology of fatalism, we will never try to make the world better for our children. However, I personally will keep on working to make this world a better place. Even if it is a fools errand.
next time you are on you tube type in 'John Perkins" or " Confessions of an economic hitman". You dont stop wars by listening to "Imagine" by John Lennon .
This song is awesome. This video is awesome. I remember seeing them do it live at the Superdome. Billie Joe was like, "there is a house in New Orleans.. they call the superdome" then he pointed out at the crowd and they screamed. It was badass.
i almost cry when i here billie joe sing the intro every time to this song...it just sounds so sad :( i love this song :D the combination of Green Day (my favorite band of all time) and U2 is just awesome and for a good message too
I'm 15,000kms away and I hear you mate. I'm certainly aware that New Orleans is no where near recovered. Thanks for being a true local and shouting out!
my god, i remember being a freshman when this song first came out, listened to it all the time in computer class, loved it then and i still love it 6 years later :)
I've heard another answer for It: the house of the rising Sun was a brothel...that's a good reason for ruin of those boys ....and God, i know, i'm one.
It proves that she's an artist in a time of vast improvements in music promotion, a higher public interest into her genre and being able to buy songs with great ease: online and on CDs (a good chunk of U2 songs were originally on vinyl).
probably my two favorite bands of all time. i swear, it chills me to the bone every time i listen to this. i just wish they kept in the brass from the live version
The video is disingenuous. I get what they were trying to say but a lot of military did actually go down there, it just wasn't as flashy as all the aircraft flying over the city. I was in the Marines, most of my unit volunteered to go and they sent half of us.
The MP's were fantastic! You always called them first before NOPD at that point. One of the many things that haunt me from this was that it started to feel "normal" when the MP's would bump into in the deli on Frenchman St with the butt of their guns. They weren't doing it on purpose, it was a tiny place. But you honestly saw the absolute best in people, and you also saw some of the worst. One of my favorite parts of the video is the tag of Not as seen on TV. True Dat!
I like the apache attack helicopter with it arms that carry weapons humbled to be lowering supplies to those who are in peril rather than persuing alleged aggressor ( imaginary enemies of the US), I wish all our military aircraft would be utilized to this extent
Our military is not a defense force. In a perfect world, yes it would be nice to provide humanitarian aide, but the U.S. Military is designed to blow stuff up, and that's it.
omg! i absolutley LOVE this song this is like my favorite song at the moment love green day and u2 an wen u put them 2gether u apparently get beutiful magic!
Yeah, Obama, the ony president since Clinton that doesnt make America look retarded. Gave a national healthcare system to a country claiming to be a superpower but a third of that nation lives like they were in a third world country.. and the dumbasses hate him for it. Im betting you vote Trump? DUH!
lezaran1 Yes, the great Obama who armed the rebels who became ISIS. The great Obama who made a nuclear deal with Iran, one of many nations who would destroy Israel in a heartbeat.
Everytime i watch this video. I get a huge smile on my face and think to myself. That is all completely possible. because with a couple of modifications to the gunships, and Harriers and B-2's it is possible. and i just smile at myself and think... too bad we didnt respond with this great of an effort..
This song gave me hope. When it first came out I had just taken my 3 year old to get his glasses fixed. We couldn't afford a spare pair, and when we walked out with no glasses he said, "But mom, I can't see the colors..." Absolutely broke my heart, I got him in the car and started crying. I turned on the radio and Live 105 was playing this song for the first time.
i've always liked this song, just now realized i've never looked for a music video, this is bad fucking ass! thank you so much for putting this up on youtube!
A profoundly moving video that epitomises human failure to prioritize compassion for human life over beauracratic strategy. U2 + Green Day rock this version! xXx
i remember when this song came out, green day was my favorite band and u2 was my dad's favorite band so it was cool to see them both do a song together :)
I love this so much. Thanks for posting it up! Still....my mom made me mad. I asked her to watch it with me on TV once and she said 'See?! They can't say we didn't do anything for them now!" I stare at her shocked for a while before finally saying 'Mom..read the sign. That stuff never happened.' And it makes me sad that anyone would think that on their own country. All I could of...is we should have at least tried to do some of those things.
great song!!!!! im a total green day fan and my dad likes u2, so its nice it all works out together and makes out an awesome song!!! ROCK ON GREEN DAY!!!! and, since i hav nothing against u2; ROCK ON U2!!!!
this song is awesome! :D love it... found it by accident and now i cant stop listening to it! i was searching another green day song and clicked this one by accident! talk about luck lol
I remember being there in 2008 when the Dome opened and how we cheered when this played. All the emotion of burying loved ones, losing everything and having to pick up the pieces this was a ray of hope.
Love the video and the idea of it...I think Bille-Joe saying "Cry to my daddy on the telephone" sounds epic...plus I love how Mike Dirnt seems so into it towards the end
This version with Green Day and U2 is actually a cover of the song called "The Saints are Coming" by The Skids in 1978. U2 and Green Day did this collaboration together after Katrina hit. It wasn't written after Katrina, just revived after it.
Can anyone make videos here? I'd love where at the end it starts with the guitar part to have in the background the annoucers saying that the Saints football team has made it into the final rounds, then the superbowl, and work up from there, go back to the people and the tragedy, then random footage of people watching the game or something and having plays from the game for the rest of the video and show the hope in the people and the pride it gave the proken people with the saints coming through and winning the superbowl. It would be really cool
I can try! that's an awesome idea. I thought of connecting it to the football team. Ik my neighbor is a huge fan of them, but I'll make him like Green Day after watching my video!
Absolutely surreal to see how far New Orleans has come and to see how much the military aided an ailing city. I think New Orleans' recovery will go down as one of the most complete and quickest recoveries ever seen after such a damaging event.
This song is a cry even stronger that one entire government, even stronger that one charity. This song is the cry of all people that we can't heard. This is the song for all people who must not speak.
I was there when they first sang it in the Superdome. I am proud to say that I live in New Orleans are very happy they made this song to bring back a little bit of our strength after Katrina hit.

🌹💙🙏💧
Two incredible bands, one amazing song.
Billie Joe and Bono's vocals compliment each other well.
2006 was 8 years ago, but this is still giving chills today
9 years ago now
Zero Cooper you seem to be on every green day vid i see
Zach Bernstein You Seem To Be On Every Video I See
17 years and still has the same effect
2006 was 18 years ago now
A very simple yet powerful message:
"What if, instead of spending our money and time waging wars, we instead helped one another?"
Dream on genius........as the Christian God said when he was here " I came Not to bring Peace, But a sword"
thunderr649xdm40 Then that says a lot in and of itself. As long as we follow that ideology of fatalism, we will never try to make the world better for our children. However, I personally will keep on working to make this world a better place. Even if it is a fools errand.

Hmm... that's strange, You even know about these things and still it seems You think we should just leave everything like it is?
DerEchteBold
lol, my thought exactly.
This song is awesome.
This video is awesome.
I remember seeing them do it live at the Superdome.
Billie Joe was like, "there is a house in New Orleans.. they call the superdome" then he pointed out at the crowd and they screamed. It was badass.
two legendary bands, awesome colab
keeping on running after my dream..... Bono you are fantastic
i almost cry when i here billie joe sing the intro every time to this song...it just sounds so sad :( i love this song :D the combination of Green Day (my favorite band of all time) and U2 is just awesome and for a good message too
One of their best songs. It brings tears to my eyes.
I love this song, green day and u2 are like the greatest bands ever, and to see them play together is awesome!
I'm 15,000kms away and I hear you mate. I'm certainly aware that New Orleans is no where near recovered. Thanks for being a true local and shouting out!
The power of music to heal.
The song is actually by "The Skids" a Scottish band.
Way better version Richard jobson way better singing it
The Green Day / U2 version is not bad it will never beat The Skids' version.
I like that they started it off with "The House of the Rising Sun"
yeah.. i thought this was the cover of House of Rising Sun..
Brilliant blend of talent and cause...you can't *not* feel something...it compels the viewer/listener.
my god, i remember being a freshman when this song first came out, listened to it all the time in computer class, loved it then and i still love it 6 years later :)
U2 and Green Day. Can't go wrong there.
What happened to that house in New Orleans...that house of the rising sun?
Sauzan Neupane the house of the rising sun is a famous jail in New Orleans Google it
I've heard another answer for It: the house of the rising Sun was a brothel...that's a good reason for ruin of those boys ....and God, i know, i'm one.
There's no conclusive evidence as the address OR what type of building/institution it was. My favorite New Orleans song, though!
They paved paradise, put up a parking lot. ;)
these oldies still can keep it up with the young ones... awesome
one of the best songs green day
SEAN GRIGSBY are you fucking serious? The original song is by the skids
RIP Stuart Adamson
It proves that she's an artist in a time of vast improvements in music promotion, a higher public interest into her genre and being able to buy songs with great ease: online and on CDs (a good chunk of U2 songs were originally on vinyl).
This song is so badass.....
grande energia
br?
0:01 by milk
i'm guessing thats the company that recorded this....
@ÁUß Code i just went to the store to do that
probably my two favorite bands of all time. i swear, it chills me to the bone every time i listen to this. i just wish they kept in the brass from the live version
Who else listen to this before each saints game ?
Right .....? koshi loco
koshi loco, You need help.
2:21 HEY LOOK! Its Queensland!
The video is disingenuous. I get what they were trying to say but a lot of military did actually go down there, it just wasn't as flashy as all the aircraft flying over the city. I was in the Marines, most of my unit volunteered to go and they sent half of us.

I was in the Superdome and the military came in Friday night, so I know firsthand they showed up.
Tbh some lads from Dunfermline wrote a few cracking tunes of which this is one -boy man and soldier coyp
this video came out 2 days prior to my birth.
I perfectly remember the first time that I watched this video and song when I was 5 with my mom
This original came out 9 years after my birth. I dont feel old
.Probably one of the most patriotic song ever.
+jt16ify you mean patronising?
I like the apache attack helicopter with it arms that carry weapons humbled to be lowering supplies to those who are in peril rather than persuing alleged aggressor ( imaginary enemies of the US), I wish all our military aircraft would be utilized to this extent
And the Harrier jump jets hovered to drop some supplies.
Yeah, they dropped it directly into the flood water instead of the land right beside it
Our military is not a defense force. In a perfect world, yes it would be nice to provide humanitarian aide, but the U.S. Military is designed to blow stuff up, and that's it.
Jei Christian dude do more research
I did, great attack helicopter.
omg! i absolutley LOVE this song this is like my favorite song at the moment love green day and u2 an wen u put them 2gether u apparently get beutiful magic!
I'm glad George W. Bush isn't president anymore.
+MrTLsnow Yeah, instead you got Obama. Good job America! [This is sarcasm]
Yeah, Obama, the ony president since Clinton that doesnt make America look retarded. Gave a national healthcare system to a country claiming to be a superpower but a third of that nation lives like they were in a third world country.. and the dumbasses hate him for it.
Im betting you vote Trump? DUH!

Yes, the great Obama who armed the rebels who became ISIS. The great Obama who made a nuclear deal with Iran, one of many nations who would destroy Israel in a heartbeat.
and now trump is ;(
Oliver Hann I'm just about to cook some potatoes. Can you cry some more so I can salt them to taste?
Everytime i watch this video. I get a huge smile on my face and think to myself. This video reassures me that humanity is not without empathy and compassion.
2 of my favorite bands together!
Awesome video
Without U2 and Greenday recording this song, the whole song wouldnt be known!
This song gave me hope. When it first came out I had just taken my 3 year old to get his glasses fixed. We couldn't afford a spare pair, and when we walked out with no glasses he said, "But mom, I can't see the colors..." Absolutely broke my heart, I got him in the car and started crying. i've always liked this song, just now realized i've never looked for a music video, this is bad fucking ass! thank you so much for putting this up on youtube!
amazing video two great bands. It's nice to see the tools of war can be used in times of peace.
A profoundly moving video that epitomises human failure to prioritize compassion for human life over beauracratic strategy. U2 + Green Day rock this version! xXx
i remember when this song came out, green day was my favorite band and u2 was my dad's favorite band so it was cool to see them both do a song together :)

I remember being there in 2008 when the Dome opened and how we cheered when this played. All the emotion of burying loved ones, losing everything and having to pick up the pieces this was a ray of hope.

A song called "The Saints Are Coming" in spanish "Los santos vienen" by U2 and Green Day. The video shows the poverty and wars in the world.
The saints are coming! Timeless impact.
que buen video bro te felicito!!!
Remember when this came out and this was the highlight of your entire life?
The most powerful song anyone could have ever made... This says a lot about my Country... Get your S*** together America..
And written and performed by Scottish musicians decades ago! Says a lot about MY country!
