God’s Sovereign Redemption Plan
By claiming that the bloodline no longer matters, one overlooks the full scope of God’s redemptive plan. God’s promises to Abraham included both physical descendants ("as numerous as the stars in the sky" - Genesis 15:5) and spiritual offspring (those who share Abraham’s faith - Romans 4:16). Both aspects are integral to God’s plan, and neither invalidates the other.
To say that the bloodline has no purpose undermines the covenant relationship God established with Israel and overlooks His faithfulness in completing what He has started. Jeremiah 31:35-36 confirms this: "Thus says the Lord, who gives the sun for light by day... 'If those ordinances depart from before Me,' says the Lord, 'then the seed of Israel shall also cease from being a nation before Me forever.'"
This verse assures us that God has not abandoned His chosen people, even while He extends His grace to all nations through Jesus.
The physical often mirrors spiritual realities. For example, circumcision was a physical sign of the covenant, but it also pointed to the deeper spiritual truth of a circumcised heart (Deuteronomy 10:16; Romans 2:29). Likewise, Israel’s physical role in history reflects God’s larger spiritual plan for humanity. To dismiss the physical bloodline is to miss the richness of how God uses tangible realities to reveal spiritual truths.
Both the natural branches (the bloodline of Abraham) and the grafted-in branches (those of faith) are part of God’s redemptive plan. While salvation is ultimately through faith, the physical bloodline still plays a role in God’s covenant and His promise to restore all things. To deny this is to misunderstand God’s sovereignty and the parallel between the physical and spiritual dimensions of His work.
