That was g*d d%$^%d inspirational! I love this game, but I'm terrible at it. It's great to watch someone make effective use of the units, but the explanation of how and why is excellent and really appreciated.
The German stick grenade designed for Blast effect, in comparison, the British grenades, which were similar to the US Pineapple were built with fragmentation in mind. The German stick grenades did come with kits to add an extra sheath to produce more fragmentation
According to the video "Potato masher What everybody gets wrong" by Military History Vizualised discussing German grenades, based in part on primary source archive research, the potato masher style had more blast effect but less fragmentation, though later war they were sometimes fitted with frag collars. In any case, that pattern was actually less common than the smooth egglike pattern which was made in greater numbers, but rarely shown either in films and games, or even in German prpoganda footage.
There are also direct quotes from field manuals on the relative merits of the two types in forest fighting, and advice on how to use them. Highly recommended.
German grenades did have more explosive filler but caused less shrapnel as they were offensive grenades. Now they did have "frag sleeves" that could be put on the normal grenade to produce that extra fragmentation.
Regards Commonwealth infantry platoons, They did have the bren gun and sten and Thompson machine guns. They had a different doctrine but they were effective. They also had an effective antitank capability with the PIAT, which could be used from inside houses and in prepared positions because it did not have the back blast.of a Bazooka or recoilless rifle

M43 Stielhandgranate - 6oz TNT filler. Mk 36/1 Mills Bomb - 2.5 oz Baratol (TNT/barium nitrate) filler. The Mk 36 gave irregular results due to the uneven fragmentation of it’s pineapple design.
I remember beta testing this scenario about 6 years ago using pretty much the same exact plan with it being a tough fight on the inside with SA having little automatic weapons. Nice presentation, and like the overviews from the top to show the sitreps and planning.
Right on had been waiting for another epic episode!

I just had a go at this secenario. The fighting around the villa is quite difficult and the German troops have quite a lot of automatic weapons in comparison to the South African troops. I had some success bombarding the woods approach to soften it up. A fun secenario but the tanks were quite difficult to use until the AT gun is eliminated
