We are going back to the old phrase of Constructive criticism. Christina used that for the benefit of this girl Frenchie Davis , as well as for Christina's show or performance as well. This girl Frenchie Davis was great in understanding that Christina's interruption was correct, and that it was for her to sing her best as possible. Sometimes we may not notice the way we sound , until someone else tells us how we did. As Christina said, she wanted to have Frenchie Davis do her best at her higher range when singing . Great help from Christina, and Great understanding by Frenchie Davis.
I think she’s right. As a mentor, she wants her to utilize what she’s excellent at and capitalize on that to boost your performance. She knew right away where in her vocal abilities, her weak point is at, and refrain her from showcasing that in a performance that only lasts less than 3 minutes. It has to be good and memorable!❤
I think she went for a pentatonic scale, but got lost on the music scale, if you notice, the 1-2-3-4 were on key, but the 5 its were she misses, which makes a domino effect and all the notes after that are off. (Correct me If I'm wrong).
I remember this song also being used on The Voice Australia battle rounds some seasons ago, that riff is hard! Kelly Rowland's such an underrated legend

Even after her explaining… Why is it not understood to some that in a competition, the coach is telling the contestant to let go of all the excessive riffs and focus on singing clear and precise to execute the song! It’s a competition, usually people want to win right? I mean, once she becomes an actual singer she can write her own songs and riff and run all day if she wants but she’s not at that moment! (I think Adam was booted and acted like it was his choice though he should've left himself many seasons before that, he wasn't really into it)

I doubt Xtina would have left on her own because she loves the attention the show was giving her and somewhat helping her career plus a an annual paycheck of $17 mil. Who knows but no one in Xtinas shoes would have left such a great opportunity

Frenchie tried to add too many notes of that last riff and was flat on the last note…. I’m unsure if she couldn’t do it or was nervous, but in actual competition when the stakes are high, you want to clean a riff like that up. And Christina didn’t say don’t do it, she asked her to clean it up, because she tried too hard for a pentatonic and fell flat towards the end.

I’m not saying she shouldn’t riff but if you miss the note it muddies the whole thing. I’ve seen Christina praise people who do them well so it’s not an ego thing, this woman’s riff was just bad in terms of note selection. Voice etc is there just missed the note. Happens to the best.
She sounds a bit rude and she could've been nicer but her advice is accurate and helpful for Frenchie as well. No teachers are perfect. And Frenchie's humble attitude to take criticism in order to improve her performance without being angry is simply awesome.

There’s also a difference Xtina does it right she truly executes; Frenchie wasn’t executing and wasn’t clean in practice but that’s why it’s practice; in her performance she did great though.
