Triangular method is more better because of equal distribution of sunlight.
When planting oil palm seedlings with a spacing of 9m x 9m, both square and triangular methods have their advantages. However, research suggests that the triangular method is more efficient and beneficial for oil palm plantations.
*Triangular method:*
1. Allows for more plants per hectare (approximately 10-15% more)
2. Reduces soil erosion and runoff, as the roots of the plants help hold the soil in place
3. Promotes better aeration and sunlight penetration, leading to healthier plants
4. Facilitates easier harvesting and pruning, as the triangular pattern allows for better access
*Square method:*
1. Easier to implement and visualize, especially for large-scale plantations
2. Simplifies planting and maintenance operations
3. Can lead to more uniform growth and development
However, the square method may result in:
1. Lower plant density per hectare
2. Increased soil erosion and runoff
3. Reduced aeration and sunlight penetration
Considering the benefits, the triangular method is generally recommended for oil palm plantations with a 9m x 9m spacing. This method can lead to improved yields, better soil conservation, and more efficient harvesting operations.
