They're Stronger Than I Thought! Street Trials Gravel Fork Test

- FINALLY some decent weather...almost feels like spring! Of course this means I can actually get out and punish this Fox Ax gravel fork, I purposely tried as many front wheel tricks as I could whilst also trying to be original and invent some moves I've not seen before...I'm pretty pleased with the riding in this video :) It's nice to be out riding some street trials again and they turned out to be stronger than I thought!
Huge thanks to Euan for keeping me company and filing some extra angles!

I got my first inspired street trials bike yesterday and I've done soo much progress in one day. The geometry of this bike is just amazing and you can jump so easily on the backwheel. I just love it.
Good stuff! They’re great aren’t they :)
@@Ali_Clarkson yes for sure
I usually never comment but your lines are beautiful these days ! Especially those 2 "counter spinning tap"!
Love the style and the music / riding sequence, keep it up !
I’m glad it was good enough to get you to comment 😄
Super good video and fab filming
I like the slightly different style of some of the shots and music in this one... keep adding a few of these in every now and then :) Also the mini mountain bike look is great!
Glad you liked it :)
Yes, digging the slow jams :)
They look impressively stiff considering they're based on the rather infamous 32SC chassis, awesome video!
Yeah I’m impressed with the stiffness, I think they have a lot of tube overlap which helps...sadly they are a bit flexible in the twisting direction but that’s not too surprising
@@Ali_Clarkson probably the same chassis as the long travel ones (80 to... 120mm?). Would make a nice gravel racefork....
Love the moving slow mo shots, props to Euan
Cheers man appreciate it!
I love the accent of these guys. I have no clue what they said ;D
Such a treat to watch this. The fine weather and daylight brought out a playful side of your riding that the slick surfaces tucked into a drawer for the winter. Well done, Ali.
Thank you 😁
Love the slow mo and the riding style
There is so much innovative riding in this video it's insane.
Thanks Peter 😄
Great to see you out and about again Ali 👍 Really enjoyed the rear bonk to nose manny then reverse on the clydeside block! 3:19
I love watching this, it's like bike poetry in motion. If I was to try any of these tricks on video it would be bunny hopping on to the platform, falling off and losing my front teeth.
Keep on guys, we admire you from afar!
Halfway Through and I already think this is the best vlog you've made recently!
Edit: also one of the best if not the best yt video I've watched this year I think.
Thank you!!
such nice riding and cool shoots! keep shredding greetings from Mexico!
Thank you :)
Great riding as always but the filming was also very nice to watch!
It was nice to have someone ride able to film a second angle!
@@Ali_Clarkson What the camera for the slomo?
@@mast_g It was using the Fujifilm XT4
@@euanclague4674 Oh thank you
What a perfect vibe in the edit for this. Music and slow mo on point!
Great Video, as always! 9:20 is absolutely sick!!!
Wow Ali! Just Wow! Give you a sunny day and a Hex and you do not disappoint! Really fantastic riding in this one and the alt angles were very nice. Fingers crossed for more sunny days!
Perfect..just made a coffee and this pops up!
Perfect..just realized I finished all of my school work and this pops up!
I like to time it to suite coffee breaks ;)
After covid Ali should arrange a subscriber comp.
You're amazing at street in some ways. It's such a wonderful time to see you do such awesome stuff.
Bloody hell Ali. I've watched most of your vids and this one's next level. I've gone from 'trials is a bit crap' to 'check this dude out' to my bmx and cycling friends. I like your style man. Also the mechanicing tips and get arounds are sweet!!!!!
Love the backwards nose manual super impressive love the video
Perfect slowmos👌
Mans riding is on point, looking forward to more sick rides now its better weather
Thanks Ben :)
i really liked the big drop slowmo shot. shows nicely how much force gets generated during that second of air time and where and how it distributes on the bike and the rider when you land. cool stuff
Loving the additional camera work and angles by Euan, cinematic in places!
The quality of your riding is incredible. So smooth, even on your ‘failed attempts’. I feel like you deserve more recognition. Fox should definitely throw you some custom forks and a sponsor!
Love the hex and with those forks it looks pretty much perfect. I’m in the market for a new trials bike, but can’t decide between 26 or 24. So tough when you can’t ride them first!
Loving the multiple angles and slo mo shots! Amazing riding as always, Ali! Glad the forks didn't give out!
Thanks Dave, me too!
Love the filming and editing style of this video, looks awesome Ali!
The slow motion scenes look incredible! Cheers man
Great video mate, that has to be the coolest riding I've seen from you - really interesting to watch!
beautifull !!! that level of riding is officialy ART !!
Loved this vid. Just the kind of riding I enjoy watching [you] riding. Impressive stuff as always.
l love the cinematic shots
slow mo is so sick man, so useful to see what's going on with body positioning
Very thank to slow mo shots with nice chill music! Its kind of meditation😍 You should do it in every video!)
Might not be possible in every video due to needing Euan (and his camera) to help from but I agree that it adds to the video and I’ll try my best to continue with them
Killer video man, by far my favorite of yours.
Sick video Ali!
I don't know about that brake noise but maybe it'll become the new maggie rim sound?!
Awesome riding! And I dig the music. Thanks Euan!
nice to see the snow going away and the imagination coming out. Great vid Ali!
Glad you liked it :)
Maaaan those hops on to the rails are 👌🏽👍👌🏽
Thanks Cliffy!
A great episode once again. Some pretty nice lines there.
Ali, your riding style is the stuff of dreams!
Thanks, I may not be able to do whips or barspins but I do try to be strict with the things I can do and make them look the best I can make them :)
This is the content I need everyday 🤘🏻
Thanks Mathis :)
Great video. I love the color scheme. The red Chris King hubs really glow in the sun.
They are rather pretty :)
Awesome vlog Ali. Good vibes.
Thanks Ronald :)
Great video.. that tech riding at the start blew my mind ..then just got better.. well done 👏
Thanks Ben, glad you liked it :)
Yes this is going to be good!
That stoppie almost otb was quite funny, anyways you always make it look so easy great video Ali.
Enjoyed as always Ali.
Thanks Aaron :)
I love this Ali! Stoked for spring so I can pull out my street rig again!
Here’s hoping it doesn’t take too long!
that wide (and tall) shot near the end of the vid was especially nice
Ali keep it up! You smashed it today doing amazing riding! Love the vids
Thanks Connor!
Another excellent riding vid. That bike looks really cool. Probably my favorite of yours so far.🤘🏼
So sick how you get up these obstacles! Also, diggin the songs you were using!
Thank you!
Wow, looks like you were really feeling it. So flowy, so crisp.
This man is a wizard.... keep it up!
Thanks, I’ll try :)
Hope you're well to! Cheers!
I am thanks!
Loving onto the rail. A warm, fuzzy early 2000s VHS feel 😂
Loads of style!
Thanks Bruce 👍🏻
So that's the music you were fighting to publish. I love it!
Just the first one, it’s not resolved yet... at the moment the ad revenue is being held until its been reviewed
Really enjoied this one! Keep it up!
Thank you!
I'm amazed about the skills Ali has on the front wheel :o
that noise is cool !!!! like it
I love your videos. Great mood, great riding.
Thank you :)
You‘re welcome 🔥
3:19 duuuude that line is awesome
Insane riding 🤯
Thanks Lewis 🤘🏻
Glad to you see riding again. i'm eagerly awaiting being able to fit my hand in a glove again and go riding
So good to see you street riding again in a tshirt.
Feels so good!
Love it . Great content as ever ali
Ali, I'm sad. I have previously commented that to get more viewers you should make slicker edited videos just showing when it goes right. I love your usual candid vlogs, I just wanted to see you get more viewers, as you deserve. Now you've done it I'm sad. I've just been out for 2 and a half hours practicing hook ups and failing again and again. The thing I love about your regular videos is that it shows that even the awesome riders like you practice and practice to get things right.
Edit: I was premature in my comment. I just saw your many attempts at rolling endo/backwards nose manual. Thank you Ali.
Most of these lines t to ok multiple attempts haha, would get a little boring if I showed every battle but I’m pleased showing some of the effort is appreciated :)
The bike do be looking sick with dem new forks doe
Thanks, I agree :D
Love the montages!
Wow what a nice Video!👍🏼
Thanks!
Nice video, some new moves.
Thank you :)
Cane Creek Helm. You can put travel reducers in there, not sure how many you can stuff in there though, and not sure what the min travel it can do is. Maybe look into it though.
Great video man
Thanks Sean 😊
Absolute top riding! Liking these tires on you, bit of give looks smoother. Fork looks awesome too, wonder if it will get you to do things you wouldn't on a rigid? Like bunny gaps to front or gap drops to nosie etc? The V brake squel was funny too haha.
So sick !
Thank you :)
Best edit ever I have seen after Casey niestat’s videos. Best edited vlog of yours 😍
More that’s a compliment thanks!
It's kind of funny seeing you trying suspension. I've never had a trials bike without.
You’ve been ahead of the times haha
@@Ali_Clarkson Mine were almost always geared and ready for trials or the dirt jumps.
2:48 noticed the effort! :D
Wow! You guys have machines that give free cash! 😁 But seriously, that drop was impressive. 👍🤘
You'd reckon a 20mm axle would help with stiffness? Oh dear, who would have thought that going from 20mm to 15mm to increase stiffness would result in reduced stiffness?! Madness!
P.S. This is a bite at the industry, Ali is just spot on the money here!
Love it !
Thanks Lukas :)
Cheers from Russia🇷🇺 Amazing style and smooth skills 👍😎
Speak to any good suspension company and they should be to reduce the travel of most air forks for you...40mm fox 34? Remember when most dirt jumpers were reducing fox 36's to 100mm.
There’s something in the works 😉
@@Ali_Clarkson Short-travel 26 with a 20 mm thru axle and heavy duty bushings? I smell a Fox 831 being lowered...
super cool video!
Everyone:
Wearing a jacket
Ali:
T-shirt weather!
I’m like: “ what the fork?”
took me a second to read that right
I love your Videos
Thanks Michael :)
Love the music edit in this one! Maybe ever so often you could put out a traditional edit that's mostly music and riding like back in the day. 🚵🎶
Sweet!
You just found a signature bike for your self in 2021
Brilliant riding! Couldn't understand a word of what that guy speaking Glaswegian was saying.
It’s taken me a few years haha
You should try out a fox 36 dj. You can reduce the travel a good bit, but im not sure how low you can go. This looks great tho, but the 36 dj would be stiffer and have a 20mm axel
I am sure if you ask around, someone can mod you a fox 32 or 36 to have 40 to 50mm travel...or even a marzocchi DJ, something that already has a lot of sturdiness / 20mm front axle built in.
Back in the day, with the manitou sherman you could reduce the travel by stacking up shims inside the fork. It still looked like it had 80mm, so the geometry was correct, but it would only move what you "shimmed it to do". Also different oil can adjust the stiffness to you want.
In the UK, if you happen to know someone who knows..etc..i would try to contact Mr Millyard (he is on YT too), he is a legendary developer.
I haven’t yet, but I might. Allen is a genius...he’d probably make something from an old land rover and it would be better than anything currently on the market haha
@@Ali_Clarkson i still have the poster of his bike when it came out in DIRT magazine and MBUK!!! we should clone him! he has a video on his channel in which he explains how he made the bike, he also says that he made the fork....out of interest what is the diameter of your rigid fork on your EX?
I have the marzocchi dj2s, and whilst they're bomb proof they are heavy as hell. Maybe try putting the dj2 lowers on the dj4 uppers for lighter weight
@@spammy3164 maybe an old for talas 32 with 80mm...but I think they were normal wheel skewer thingies
@@RageForSeven yeah the old thru axle forks were way ahead of their time really
Hi Ali. Looks as though this particular experiment is going really well and so maybe 🤔 40mm suspension forks on you silver HEX is the (maybe) the right way to go ?.
Ali signature bike in 2021 is 26inch wheel with suspension fork👌
So far so good but it’s early days yet with this fork!
@@domikbou ;)
Try some hard front taps to get up some thing big want to see if thay will bend or brake
I was out filming some taps today but a blister on my finger called the ride short :(
