    Liner for the win! I always had issues with sores where the edge of the socket rubs on the skin, no matter how many adjustments I had done. Since getting a socket with a liner, that doesn’t happen anymore, because my skin is protected.

    • @411adaptivegolf
      @411adaptivegolf 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doesn't it fall off once you start sweating? I've always hated them and will only get a skin fit now!

    • @MartynaBiri
      @MartynaBiri 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@411adaptivegolf It does, but it also was happening with the skin fit when the stump was sweaty, so it doesn’t make it either better or worse in that aspect. I have a short stump so there is not much to hold it no matter what suspension system I use (unless I use a belt which is uncomfortable)

      No. It gets really sloppy but doesn’t fall off.

    Had an extra surgery to trim my tibia bone down because of rubbing on my socket... about eight months ago... made it smoother and I was wearing out liners... interesting... always ways to make adjustments... I chose to adjust my flesh and bone and it worked... wish you the best. Been an amputee myself since July of 2018 when I lost my left leg below the knee... appreeciate your video... having issues now ripping liners I walk so much... giving me ideas to talk to my team about... thank you.

    Just found your page. I’m also an AKA. I think think the fact these prosthetic companies match modern 2022 bionic legs to pre-1950 sockets is a joke . There is definitely a need to come up with a better socket. I would think that can’t be hard to do with todays tech aka ..3-D printing. I don’t need fancy titanium parts, Make it out of carbon fibre, it’s super light and strong. No socket I’ve had in 5 years maintains vacuum. There hot and why wouldn’t they be having to wear a Neoprene liner? I wear a belt that holds the prosthesis on my limb or it’ll fall off if I ride a bike or if I sit down for a long period of time it’ll move & the slightest movement and my walk is all off.
    How does that vacuum type socket ( one with black tube ) work out for you? I can tell you’re prosthetists does his job a lot more professionally than mine . As a new amputee I knew nothing as I’m sure you didn’t.
    As I was lying in the hospitals Trauma then Physical & Occupational therapy thinking how am I going to do this what’s it gonna be like and all I got was a brochure that said the most important thing is your relationship with your Prosthetists! Mine to say the least is not professional at all.
    I have to work with this guy until I die so I stopped causing waves and just did my own homework and became my own advocate and stopped caring about what they thought of me,. I don’t care if they hate me I don’t care if they like me. I’m getting the best components on the market for my needs.
    It’s leg came with a fixed ankle, took 3 years to fix that then ordered a water leg and again they put a fixed ankle on it I’m like how am I going to put a flipper on this and do laps in a pool buddy I’m not getting a waterproof leg to walk I’m getting to swim😢. Getting that ankle switched out to one that can pivot took an act of God.

      I’ve tried getting an ankle that has a movement in it but I still have the same one I got 31 yr ago ,And last dec I broke my stump and now I just waited from dec when I broke it till we’d just past to be fitted with a leg I got fitted with two year ago that test socket he tried it felt better than the old socket ,at the time but I’m now in agony and I’m slowly giving up ,But I ain’t not now after all this time so up there today ,no holding bck ,

    First nice job and well done but i have some thing to add .. 1 i have the impression that the foot need more of out rotation and if u can see during her walking especially " loading response" in her phase gait she lean to the side of prosthetic so i think she needs abduction of the component "foot and knee" just little to balance her gait except that every thing is good

It costs about 6 lakhs to make a normal leg in our country. A leg like that is always a dream for us 🥺 I don't have legs like yours. I liked the way you wear that leg. The legs we put on are very difficult. I can't even walk 500m because my leg is injured. I wish you all the best in your future. 😊🥀

    Hi I have had many AK prosthesis over the last 40 years so some comments may be helpful. The prosthesis shown looks about 25mm too short. Needs some adduction to provide more stability and slight toe out. Also the limb fitter shouldn't be putting the skin fit socket on without a pull through. This gives an incorrect fit and leaves residual flesh outside the socket. Good luck and love your attitude to life.

  • @treotraveler
    @treotraveler 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hi..I understand that you had a myodesis done first, then you had a TMR done. The question I have, is the end of your femur moving around inside your residual limb?
    I am schedualed for a new cast made and a new socket. My femur moves around inside my residual limb. They did a myodesis when they did my AKA.

    • @AmputeeOT
      @AmputeeOT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it moves around. I actually had a myoplasty and then a tenodesis. My femur moved around after both.

    I am going from a RBKA to a RAKA in a few weeks. Do all the sockets for AKA come up that high? Or will a lot of that be cut back? And between vacuum and suction, which do you prefer? As a BKA I have only ever had the option of suction and corset because of the shape of my residual limb. I have wanted to try vacuum for the circulatory benefits though…

      Is it the Prosthetist? My guy guarantees its fit or he starts over. It could just be how the nerves are that its too painful. My pinlock socket was always painful but I wanted to walk... That and I still have pain meds. I still feel the pain from what happened before each of the 3 successive partial amputation's I had. Now I have negative pressure and its much better, not like a real leg but its as good as it will get. It does not help that I've become very heavy. Good luck. I know Drs dont like to give meds though in my case it had continued from the festering wounds through the 5 years of Ostio so my Dr felt it would not be right to stop them. You may not choose to be on them. My Father was an amputee years ago and he never took to the socket. They gave him a POS wooden leg for years. No wonder. Before he died they finally gave him a proper socket with a carbon foot but it was too late. Don't let it get to be too late. Keep trying. Seek professional help. The system is happy to forget about people like us.

    I'm a TK, since 06/20, one of the best comments l have heard so far is, walking is a rhythm action.
    And so nearly all of these rooms never allow for this fact, and you are supposed to make a decision based on that.
    Factor in, you maybe spending upwards of £20,000, and l find this totally unacceptable.
    My fittings are modelled on a 3D scan for my socket which l approve, this however did not seem to be on offer for you.

    Would you ever wear your leg without the liner? I noticed during the fitting you were testing it without one...thinking that could cause sweating/chafing, etc without the liner over a few hours use. Like wearing shoes without socks, etc. Not easy getting the leg right for sure.

    • @411adaptivegolf
