While topuria knocked a lot of people down here I was actually impressed by his control. Most of the knockdowns came from just really accurate punches that weren’t even thrown that hard. Or from body shots. The only one that was maybe suspicious was the flying knee into left hook. But it was a short clip. You never know if that was hard sparring or not.
Funny enough, they were supposed to fight at a UFC event in Russia I think in Topuria's UFC debut in like 2018, 2 years before his true debut. Ilia was 6-0 all 6 wins by submission, his striking wasn't nearly as developed so I reckon Petr would've for sure won that matchup back then in a 3 rounder.

They can legit spar boxing pros. Chuck, Wanderlei & Jackson could never spar pros because the lack of fundamentals they had. They were legit street brawlers with scary power. The modern day mma strikers are technical af and some have scary power on top of that like this dude for example.
Even in his hard sparring sessions, everything is controlled and calculated. He throws pretty hard but not hard enough to really hurt his partner bad or give permanent damage. I would love to spar a guy like him. Even though you know you're gonna get worked over, you will get better being forced to share the cage or mat with him.
As soon as he loses you will all be talking about how little control he has and how much of a bully he is against lesser skilled partners. This happens every time a fighter starts getting bandwagoners.

First I ever saw of Ilia was his knockout of Ryan Hall. That was already impressive. But when he starched Jai Herbert, I told my buddies that he had the crispest punching technique I have seen in a long while. Never mind the actual knockouts, but his technique is picture perfect. I'd venture as far as to say, you physically cannot create more torque than he does at his size and weight. It is pretty much 100% optimized.

My real question I guess is, an exhausting 5 rounds of heavy grappling mixed with striking. Movsar will definitely be a challenge on that end and the two will probably be fighting in the future. It's a big question going into their meet-up I hope gets answered before it comes.
