And he argued against women getting the right to vote. He saw 8 presidents come and go during his time as head of the FBI, respectively Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard Nixon. He held secret files on political leaders, and was in a position where he could intimidate and threaten others, including sitting presidents of the United States.
