    You want to see him rock with his Cello watch PTX "Radioactive" (featuring violinist Lindsey Stirling), and you'll see the difference between the instruments musically :) also you can see him show off his celloboxing skills in "Shallow" as well. Great reaction, thanks

    I adore KO! He plays the Saxophone also. And I saw him playing the drums in a tic tok the other day. He's super smart. A college grad who had been accepted into med school when he went to join Pentatonix. He speaks several languages. Check out "Shallow" for a great example of his celloboxing.

      He speaks 5 languages, one of them fluent in Chinese Mandarin. He's Classically trained from the age of 5 in Piano, Sax and Cello. He preformed as a soloist at Carnegie Hall twice, 1st time with the Sax, 17yrs old and 2nd time on the Cello 18yrs old. He was accepted into Yale at 17 and was finished Pre-Med by the time he joined PTX in 2011, at the age of 21, to compete in NBC's The Sing Off. He is a musical and academic prodigy plus a good God praising Christian to boot. He lives his best life doing what he's most passionate about, MUSIC!! Although he has joked around that his parents are still waiting and hoping he goes back into medicine and finishes becoming a doctor. lol

    Kevin is one of the most humble, talented, and intelligent performers out there. Violin is smaller, under the chin, and has a much higher range. He can play the cello standing up or the traditional way, sitting down with it between his knees. Pronounced Chello. It's in Italian word. Cello - the C has a CH sound. Like Ciao which is pronounced "chow". This is a greeting in Italian.

    The cello he is playing is an electric one. He named it Mr. Carter......his traditional cello is what we usually see him play, her name is Beyonce. Videos where he is playing with PTX you would like are Say Something, Radioactive, & Thank You (Scott also plays piano).

    The stringed instruments are according to size and scale. Just like Soprano, Alto, Contralto/Countertenor, Tenor, Baritone, Bass...Strings are: Violin, Viola (larger than a violin, but still played under the chin), Cello (CH-ello), and Bass. The reason this Cello is thin is because it is electric.

    • @jelinenanashi9466
      @jelinenanashi9466 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      This is his electric cello named Mr. Carter. His acoustic cello is named Beyoncé.

    • @lindafintling2042
      @lindafintling2042 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Exactly! Good description! Also, you can add effects to the electric cello, like the distortion-pedal on the electric guitar. That's why they can sound somewhat simular.

    • @jonadabtheunsightly
      @jonadabtheunsightly 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The most important difference is range; the size difference is an artifact of how the different pitches are achieved: the violin can be smaller because it has the highest pitch range and thus does not need long strings. The bass is the largest of the four because it needs longer strings to hit those low notes, for much the same reason that a pipe organ's largest pipes are for the lowest notes.
      The cello is in many was the nicest of the stringed instruments, because it has a range very similar to the human vocal range.
      In principle there is also such a thing as a stringed instrument pitched even lower than bass (sometimes called a "quadruple bass viol" or an "octobasse"), but it's rare, and rather impractical because it's huge (you have to stand on a ladder to play it, unless there's a hole in the floor for it to be recessed in). Likewise, you can make one smaller than a violin, but it's going to be pretty high-pitched, just as a piccolo is higher than a flute.

    If you want 'ch ello' and beat boxing (aka 'celloboxing') I would love you too react to Kevin's own composition 'Renegade'. It is hauntingly beautiful. Loved this reaction and so glad you're checking out some of KO's solo stuff. He does a pretty sick cover of Sign of the Times - Harry Styles. Keep em coming please, I love your energy and insight :)

    The violin not only produces much higher notes, but also has different pitched strings. i.e. A violin has the (from highest to lowest) E, A, D, & G strings. The viola (my instrument) is still played on the shoulder, but I have the A, D, G, & C strings. The cello has the same strings as the viola (A, D, G, & C), but it's exactly an octave lower in pitch (sound frequency), and typically held between the knees in a seated position. The stand-up bass (aka the double bass) is played while standing or supported by a stool. I believe they have the E-A-D-G-string combo like the violins, but 5 or 6 octaves lower in pitch. Octave is pronounced like olive and is the 8-note distance between whatever your core or starting pitch is. I hope all of that makes sense. I need more coffee. ☕ Nothin but 💙 & respect from Texas!

    Thanks for your reaction to this one! As you know from some of the other comments Kevin has played saxophone and cello at Carnegie Hall back in his teenage years. He coined the word "Celloboxing" years ago and became a member of Pentatonix when they googled beatboxing and found him celloboxing. I have heard that Webster dictionary will include 'celloboxing' in their next edition. He calls his regular cello "Beyonce" but I don't remember the name of this cello. He is playing his electric cello here like I have never seen played this way. You would enjoy Pentatonix cover of "Radioactive" with Lindsey Sterling.

    You just made me a fan!!I just subscribed...thank you so much for your great reaction to Kevin "K.O."!!😄👍 cello and violin are both string instruments, the cello (pronounced with a " ch" sound) is obviously larger and plays lower notes primarily... The violin is much smaller and plays mostly higher notes.😄✌

    in a nutshell, violin has higher tones while cello (che-lo) goes deeper, someone who is more musically versed can explain it in more detail. if you want to see more of rocking with cello check out 2Cellos and Apocalyptica

    You need to check out the covers "Say Something" and "Radioactive" to see Kevin beatbox and Play The Cello at the same time. In this video as you can tell, he does do the beatboxing and he will play the cello...but not exactly at the same time. Yep, he invented cello- boxing (beat boxing).

    The difference between a cello and a violin is that cello is more like a bass instrument and has a darker sound Than a violin which has of a fairytale and enchanting sound and vibe to it

  • @hawkeyescoffee6399

    Thank you for that explanation. I knew there was a range thing with it (that obviously they got higher the smaller they were), but didn't know the strings themselves were different notes between the instruments. Very cool that you play viola, I feel like I don't hear many people playing it (they either go with violin or cello from the people I know) these days.

    Violin much higher keyed instrument, with different pitched strings, Cello (Jello starting with CH instead of J) is several octaves lower than the violin. KO is insanely talent. Now I know where all my talent went LOL. loved it Bro!!(added; try 2cellos "Thunderstruck")
