Tchaikovsky. Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. One of his most charming and magical compositions. Although it is so often associated with ballet in popular culture, as a musician it's hard to think of the celesta without also thinking of this piece. Kind of like how everyone who was alive during the 90s feel about Celine Dion’s “my heart will go on”. For a solid year at least they played that song everywhere. You could not escape it. Sigh. Due to my 40 to 60 dB hearing loss at higher frequencies, the high notes at 1:43 are just sad little "tinks", where I know there should be rich chords. Half a loaf is better than none at all, but I do sometimes regret my misspent youth and unthinking exposure to damaging loud noises.
