It really isn't. It's rather forgettable. I bet if you asked 10 people if they remember this song, nobody would. I don't remember this song despite it being one of their biggest hits in terms of chart position in the UK (number 5 apparently)

Some songs are just more catchy so stand the test of time. The two songs you gave are perfect examples. If you asked most people to name two Ace of Base songs those would be the two they mention more often than not.

"Stole" is a bit strong, and I don't see the similarities you've found, though I do see similarities between Irish and Swedish folk-pop, which are interesting (Corrs, Cranberries, B*Witched, ABBA, First Aid Kit, Ace of Base, even Roxette, all have a similar sound, yet some are Irish and some are Swedish).

The US Edition of "Flowers" ("Cruel Summer") really got me through some crapy times in the 90s! When I went to that dark place, their album brought me to a happy place.
I think it's sarcastic. Is like we can not pretend or smile? Probably all we can never smile and have a straight face and you can live a normal and natural life in a natural World not all society places but in some regions and in others you might not be able to work, travel and be accepted etc Not my favorite song.
This song is bringing back so many sweet nostalgias. It's a bit like imagining a college life forever - this is gotta be the anthem! Ironically, we have to earn a living and just gotta make the best out of these odd we are going through. It sucks at times... but I can always go back to this song.

+dendi supriyadi Yes, I'm a fan of Ace of Base, and Linn and Jenny in particular. I don't know them personally, and know practically nothing firsthand, but I have acquired quite a bit of information over time, and have figured many things out by fitting the pieces together like a puzzle. I know where Linn lives, but I will never divulge that information in order to protect her privacy and safety, and I will never use it myself--in learning about her in particular, I've grown to respect and care about her as a person, despite not knowing her personally, and I only want her to be safe and happy. Gothenburg, on Sweden's west coast, is the closest large city, and that is precise enough. According to her brother Jonas, who sees her quite frequently, Linn is happier now than she has been in years, and is even once again talking with family and friends about music and the good times she had while working with Ace of Base, so I'm glad to report, according to this and other sources within Sweden, that Linn is doing fine and is in good health. She has a pretty nice life, in fact, and many nieces and nephews who are very fond of her. Linn's main problem is that she is still pretty much in hiding (living under an assumed name, which I'm not divulging, either), and is afraid of being recognized. She does get out, but not often, and rarely by herself (which is actually kind of OK because she has always been a homebody). Anyone who is reading this and happens to recognize Linn in public should refrain from letting it show and taking photos--please don't do that to her. There were many reasons that Linn stepped out of the spotlight even while she was still a member of the band, and her "strange" behavior is not so strange once you know the reasons. Is this something you would like to know, or do you already know? The biggest mystery is why Linn finally decided to officially leave the band, which we can only infer from other events close in time. She had many reasons to want to leave, which is no mystery to me at all, but what specifically prompted her to finally make this decision after staying in the background, wanting to leave, for about a decade? The band have only given the general reasons. And I have my own theories about this. So what would you like to know? Some of this? All of this? What happened to Jenny, too? Or everything I know, including some details of Linn's childhood? (a lot for me to write and for you to read :) )

The reason is in the third paragraph following this one, and boils down to being disrespected by Jonas and Ulf. The first paragraph is about her basic dislike of being famous. The second paragraph is about her very serious and dangerous problem with stalkers. I tried to keep them short, leaving out a lot of details, but I wanted them to be descriptive to give a real understanding of why someone as talented and beautiful as Linn would want to hide herself away. You are correct that Linn is a very private person. She is modest and never wanted to be famous, and never wanted to be a pop singer. Her brother Jonas asked her to join his new band, and she said no, but her little sister Jenny wanted to do this with Linn, and convinced her to join. None of them ever believed that they would become so famous and wildly successful. Linn did not want to be the lead singer, but their producer loved her voice and had her mainly sing the massive hit singles that made them stars. After several years Linn grew sick and tired of performing, and decided to stop; she still wanted to sing, though, so she stayed in the band for that and also for the sake of Jenny and Jonas, and she kept recording songs. However, perhaps the biggest factor of all was that many people obsessed over Linn (not Jenny, Jonas, or Ulf--only Linn), and at any time there could be stalkers coming after her. One climbed up the outside of a hotel in an attempt to get into Linn's room (he was spotted and arrested). And another time, Jenny was taken hostage in her parents' home at knife-point--the stalker (a woman) demanded that they call Linn and tell her to come over or else she would kill Jenny. The parents attacked and beat up the stalker, and no one was killed, but Jenny was traumatized and Linn felt extremely guilty and responsible for what happened. Over time, Linn hid herself from the spotlight more and more in order to reduce the public's interest in her--the less obsession there was, the less danger there would be from stalkers. She is still doing this today, now completely staying away from the public. Despite all of these factors making Linn want to leave, she was still in the band in 2005. And in fact Jenny had even convinced her to perform live onstage again (Jenny wanted this so much, and Linn likes to make Jenny happy), despite the risks. But by this time the guys, Jonas and Ulf, were tired of Linn and Jenny's creative input, which they had always had. The guys believed that only they were necessary for the band's success, having written all of the hit songs, so they tried to control everything this time, convinced that they knew best how to be more successful like before. Being disrespected and feeling unwanted as a result, and not wanting to be in this business for herself anyway, Linn decided to leave the band. Stop reading here if that's all you want to know. Jenny stayed, so Jonas and Ulf kicked her out later, and hired two new singers who were willing to do everything they commanded. The new girls obediently stripped to their underwear and sang like sluts (check out the "All For You" video), like Jonas and Ulf wanted but Linn and Jenny would never do. The new band lineup failed within two years, losing money overall, and Jonas had to beg forgiveness from his sisters Linn and Jenny. They forgave him, but only as his sisters, and not as his former bandmates. He now gives most of the credit for their previous success to Linn instead of himself and Ulf, and wants her to sing his songs again so badly, but she and Jenny remember what he and Ulf did to them, especially Jenny, to whom they were needlessly cruel. The guys thought that the girls didn't matter, so they replaced them, but they were wrong, and now the girls don't want to work with the guys anymore--Ace of Base is, for the foreseeable future, finished, having been destroyed from within by Jonas and Ulf's arrogance and hubris (Linn and Jenny are no ordinary singers, you jerks--they were the voices and faces and the real heart and soul of the band). Now, Linn could still choose to sing with Jenny onstage like Jenny wants her to, but Linn still feels that it would be dangerous for both of them, and she has been much happier living a private life. Jenny seems sad about that, but she understands and knows that it's Linn's turn to be happy now. As far as I know, Linn is still unmarried, but she is doing well.
My music background is mostly metal mixed with a heavy dose of rock. What a beautiful song this is, I don't know how I ended up revisiting this song in 2024, but I'm glad I did. It was a banger when it came out... I might not have admitted it then, but happy to do so now.

@@gilgraham6754 All music was written by 1975, according to a friend of mine. Riffs get re-hashed and repeated. That's the nature of music. "Stole" is a bit strong, and I don't see the similarities you've found, though I do see similarities between Irish and Swedish folk-pop, which are interesting (Corrs, Cranberries, B*Witched, ABBA, First Aid Kit, Ace of Base, even Roxette, all have a similar sound, yet some are Irish and some are Swedish).

+dendi supriyadi Yes, I'm a fan of Ace of Base, and Linn and Jenny in particular. I don't know them personally, and know practically nothing firsthand, but I have acquired quite a bit of information over time, and have figured many things out by fitting the pieces together like a puzzle. I know where Linn lives, but I will never divulge that information in order to protect her privacy and safety, and I will never use it myself--in learning about her in particular, I've grown to respect and care about her as a person, despite not knowing her personally, and I only want her to be safe and happy. Gothenburg, on Sweden's west coast, is the closest large city, and that is precise enough. According to her brother Jonas, who sees her quite frequently, Linn is happier now than she has been in years, and is even once again talking with family and friends about music and the good times she had while working with Ace of Base, so I'm glad to report, according to this and other sources within Sweden, that Linn is doing fine and is in good health. She has a pretty nice life, in fact, and many nieces and nephews who are very fond of her. Linn's main problem is that she is still pretty much in hiding (living under an assumed name, which I'm not divulging, either), and is afraid of being recognized. She does get out, but not often, and rarely by herself (which is actually kind of OK because she has always been a homebody). Anyone who is reading this and happens to recognize Linn in public should refrain from letting it show and taking photos--please don't do that to her.
There were many reasons that Linn stepped out of the spotlight even while she was still a member of the band, and her "strange" behavior is not so strange once you know the reasons. Is this something you would like to know, or do you already know?
The biggest mystery is why Linn finally decided to officially leave the band, which we can only infer from other events close in time. She had many reasons to want to leave, which is no mystery to me at all, but what specifically prompted her to finally make this decision after staying in the background, wanting to leave, for about a decade? The band have only given the general reasons. And I have my own theories about this.
So what would you like to know? Some of this? All of this? What happened to Jenny, too? Or everything I know, including some details of Linn's childhood? (a lot for me to write and for you to read :) )

+dendi supriyadi Yes, Linn has never told why she actually decided to leave, and the other band members have been vague about it, but I believe that I have figured it out. The reason is in the third paragraph following this one, and boils down to being disrespected by Jonas and Ulf. The first paragraph is about her basic dislike of being famous. The second paragraph is about her very serious and dangerous problem with stalkers. I tried to keep them short, leaving out a lot of details, but I wanted them to be descriptive to give a real understanding of why someone as talented and beautiful as Linn would want to hide herself away.
You are correct that Linn is a very private person. She is modest and never wanted to be famous, and never wanted to be a pop singer. Her brother Jonas asked her to join his new band, and she said no, but her little sister Jenny wanted to do this with Linn, and convinced her to join. None of them ever believed that they would become so famous and wildly successful. Linn did not want to be the lead singer, but their producer loved her voice and had her mainly sing the massive hit singles that made them stars. After several years Linn grew sick and tired of performing, and decided to stop; she still wanted to sing, though, so she stayed in the band for that and also for the sake of Jenny and Jonas, and she kept recording songs.
However, perhaps the biggest factor of all was that many people obsessed over Linn (not Jenny, Jonas, or Ulf--only Linn), and at any time there could be stalkers coming after her. One climbed up the outside of a hotel in an attempt to get into Linn's room (he was spotted and arrested). And another time, Jenny was taken hostage in her parents' home at knife-point--the stalker (a woman) demanded that they call Linn and tell her to come over or else she would kill Jenny. The parents attacked and beat up the stalker, and no one was killed, but Jenny was traumatized and Linn felt extremely guilty and responsible for what happened. Over time, Linn hid herself from the spotlight more and more in order to reduce the public's interest in her--the less obsession there was, the less danger there would be from stalkers. She is still doing this today, now completely staying away from the public.
Despite all of these factors making Linn want to leave, she was still in the band in 2005. And in fact Jenny had even convinced her to perform live onstage again (Jenny wanted this so much, and Linn likes to make Jenny happy), despite the risks. But by this time the guys, Jonas and Ulf, were tired of Linn and Jenny's creative input, which they had always had. The guys believed that only they were necessary for the band's success, having written all of the hit songs, so they tried to control everything this time, convinced that they knew best how to be more successful like before. Being disrespected and feeling unwanted as a result, and not wanting to be in this business for herself anyway, Linn decided to leave the band. Stop reading here if that's all you want to know. Jenny stayed, so Jonas and Ulf kicked her out later, and hired two new singers who were willing to do everything they commanded. The new girls obediently stripped to their underwear and sang like sluts (check out the "All For You" video), like Jonas and Ulf wanted but Linn and Jenny would never do. The new band lineup failed within two years, losing money overall, and Jonas had to beg forgiveness from his sisters Linn and Jenny. They forgave him, but only as his sisters, and not as his former bandmates. He now gives most of the credit for their previous success to Linn instead of himself and Ulf, and wants her to sing his songs again so badly, but she and Jenny remember what he and Ulf did to them, especially Jenny, to whom they were needlessly cruel. The guys thought that the girls didn't matter, so they replaced them, but they were wrong, and now the girls don't want to work with the guys anymore--Ace of Base is, for the foreseeable future, finished, having been destroyed from within by Jonas and Ulf's arrogance and hubris (Linn and Jenny are no ordinary singers, you jerks--they were the voices and faces and the real heart and soul of the band).
Now, Linn could still choose to sing with Jenny onstage like Jenny wants her to, but Linn still feels that it would be dangerous for both of them, and she has been much happier living a private life. Jenny seems sad about that, but she understands and knows that it's Linn's turn to be happy now. As far as I know, Linn is still unmarried, but she is doing well.
My music background is mostly metal mixed with a heavy dose of rock. What a beautiful song this is, I don't know how I ended up revisiting this song in 2024, but I'm glad I did. It was a banger when it came out... I might not have admitted it then, but happy to do so now.
