Looks nice Greg. Most of the big box home improvement stores have a shade tarp you can by the foot. You can get it from something like 30% to 90% shade. Might be just enough for them to feel safe but still allow you to see if they are inside the box.

Awesome job Greg! Suggestion though, the maps LOVE to hide, and it looks like they're trying to wedge themselves/get underneath the driftwood to hide. I would get some large PVC pipe or sewer pipe (the light green kind) and put it in, then cover the top with wood to hide it. Also, when you do get eggs send a hatchling my way! Love black knob maps :)

DanTheGuppyMan yeah they loved to hide in their milk crate, I'm thinking about creating a driftwood cave to replace it

Great job! Any idea how to made one in a 300 gal aquarium? All my attempts have failed. The box floats even with slate rocks on the bottom.

Excelent addition. Very low profile and overall great idea. Thank you for sharing it.

I've seen your other video where you had explained the substrate mix you used for the nesting box. What brand of peat moss did you use because i can only find zoo med's new Zealand sphagnum peat moss that will clearly say no dyes and 100% natural on the packaging but it is light brown, dry and stringy. Yours seem to look like soil base. Did you do anything to prepare the peat moss before mixing it with the sand?

Have you had any success with this method? Like have they laid any eggs for you? I'm really interested in trying this myself.

If I was a turtle and a guest in your tub, I'd want to lay my eggs in that nesting box!

Greg, you're a gadget man for sure. You've got that great aquarium rack and a super filter, and nothing really interesting (sorry) in the tanks. I see you with some super fancy koi veiltail angels plus whatever else. Carry on, Bo.

Very creative! Seems like a bigger basking area might be in order also. Cheers!

My Lightning just randomly laid a egg I'm assuming is unfertile since I don't have male turtles. This video will be hopefully very helpful since Lightning laid her egg in water.I'm not sure if Lightning will lay more eggs or what.

Ramp is too steep. No above surface resting rocks. Good idea with the tubs.

I'm trying to find a way to hide flotation under the bottom part of the ramp to reduce the angle, any ideas?

Sometimes minimalism can become it's own complication. Milk crates work fine as a subsurface structure, are easy to sterilize, and provide holes for smaller fish to entertain themselves. Good place to anchor aeration stones, too. Think original habitat.

I'm kind of disapointed. I was pretty hyped when you announced the stump idea, and i liked the idea of natural. I dont think you could even skin that to look natural. It sticks out like a sore thumb. I'm sure it's pretty useful, but ruins your original plan.

i'm still on the hunt for a stump, but i need something that is 24"+ in diameter and hollow
