Something I meant to say in this but just straight-up forgot to put in the script is; I find this kind of ideology even more cruel than the modern profit-driven televangelists that are so prevalent in the USA. When they promise miracle cures, and put the responsibility on you to pray for it, at least God is still in the equation. God presumably has some agency here, so it's not entirely on you. Whereas the Law of Attraction is presented as like any law of nature, constant, without agency & so manifestation is entirely your responsibility, everything is entirely your fault. That's some messed up stuff if you ask me.

It's akin to lots of discussion of merit and justice in that way. I mean, it IS praying, but it's praying without the moral and social costs - which makes it EVEN BETTER for the people winning, without all those awkward notions like charity and generousity, bleh. Hands off, this is mine, THE UNIVERSE said so.

@@gagrin1565 And it's actually not that different from the televangelists - those and similar pastors claim to have a direct line to God and an ability to ask God's opinion on a constant basis really the biggest "I know a guy" flex ever, dressed up in holy robes.

Read this after commenting thusly, “I understand clarifying one’s goals and setting intentions so that you focus on your goals, but from the first time I read The Secret (at the start of this nonsense), I thought it was nonsense and dangerous. It’s really great for victim blaming… it’s really great for taking no responsibility for fixing a broke system that harms so many people. Finally! Someone breaks down how genuinely terrible "The Law of Attraction" is. It is almost entirely a way for the privileged to rationalize how their success is their own, and their abuses are the fault of the victims.

haha, yep! I was in this spiritual group last year. During that time, I had to go through an attempt on my life and then an assault by the former person's friend. I mentioned it there - the idiots told me, I attracted it. In fact, I've been in a very secure and abundant space for a while at that time. I felt amazing, "high vibe" etc. Absolutely no doubts about all that. Anyway, they told me to shut the f up and start learning how LoA works. Anyway, this is a cult and they are cognitively dissonant. I think that LoA works, HOWEVER, the purpose of one's life on the earth is to experience a wide range of emotions and situations, NOT only the bliss states of optimum health, only perfect relationships, making money off the bad and with no effort. Hence, God/ Universe, gives us curveballs. It is normal. The idea of literally everything being a manifestation is complete and utter mental dissonance. Needless to say, I am not hanging with these sorts of dum dums anymore. Right now I have a lot of curveballs to tackle, but it has nothing to do with LoA. I wanted change in many areas and I had to take action to accommodate and facilitate this change. Hence, I am dealing with a lot of S. Yet, the LoA cultists would still come at me with this bs of how I attracted it and how I have deep-seated problems because of my current challenges. WTF! lol

I have been saying for years that positive thinking and law of attraction is dangerous! I tried it for many years and things only got worse! I have talked to MANY others who also tried it and things got worse for them as well! And it causes deep depression when people do this stuff and take it seriously and expect great things to happen. And when good things never come, it destroys them!
it is easier to handle bad things when you are not hyped up expecting to get your desires and expecting good things. SO when people really believe a dream life will manifest, it makes it that much worse on them when nothing good comes and worse when bad things happen instead.
Funny thing is they all say you MUST be positive and not negative. Yet being positive and doing these teachings are when the worst things happen to me. And it has always been when I felt angry, depressed and hopeless that anything good at all has happened for me. So it seems they have it backwards. And others have said the same thing.
Fact is, there is nothing conscious in the universe that knows you or gives a damn about you. Nothing is going to help you.
And if one more person says to me all of my desires are in my vibrational vortex I will scream! I cannot go to my landlord and say "hey, the rent check is vibrational and in your vortex"!

How are we supposed to not think about our debt when we're in debt. An automatic debt repayment doesn't work if you don't have the money to pay it. I understand clarifying one’s goals and setting intentions so that you focus on your goals, but from the first time I read The Secret (at the start of this nonsense), I thought it was nonsense and dangerous. It’s really great for victim blaming… it’s really great for taking no responsibility for fixing a broke system that harms so many people. It’s like our penchant for expecting therapy to fix societal issues.

I came here from Chill Goblin and I'm very glad to come across such a well-made video. This video also felt very calming to watch, perhaps it's your accent or tone of voice haha.
I also notice that, watching your video with broken earphones where only the right earbud works, that the voiceover audio of some passages are for some reason audible on the left audio channel only.
What I mean is, I don't hear the voiceovers through my right earbud unless I unplug my earphones, or switch my laptop's audio settings from stereo to mono audio. Not that it's a bother at all, but I thought I could mention that just in case it helps when you're editing videos
Thanks again for the great video! Off to watch another video of yours.
Update: Edited to add that I don't experience this issue using the same broken earphones on TH-cam mobile. It only appears to be the case on my laptop. I say this because my family was like this (knowing or unknowingly) and growing up in that I think that’s why I became such a “negative” person…of course for years I thought it “was me” and something was wrong with me but now looking back it’s almost like a law of the universe (irony and no pun intended) for me to be forced to balance this, because it’s like my family was utterly incapable for looking at, discussing or engaging in anything “negative” or sad or bad or anything that wasn’t butterflies and rainbows 🤮 growing up in that was sooo draining.

  • @NovemberXXVII

As a Buddhist, I wanna offer the observation here that The Law of Attraction is kinda bizarro Buddhism. The Dharma tells you to put your mind in the present, sit still, and respond with acceptance to whatever you think or feel. The Secret is essentially teaching people that if you truly do that for *one* moment, if you slip out of your desires and let yourself feel happy right where you are...well that's why you're so unhappy. It's like someone was trying to write a recipe for alienation from self.

It's interesting to see the weird parallells to some more lefty variants of the same kind of thinking, such as shows up in some Discordian writings for example. I can't recall anything about material conditions really changing due to belief, but instead it's very much a focus on social relations - by Thinking and Acting in certain ways, you can be _perceived by others_ as already having some specific property (such as being rich), which could make the difference between getting or not getting some opportunity or access, for example.
Obviously less bullshit than The Secret, even with the telepathy.

You know, I've gotten a lot of stuff accomplished over the course of my life, and the thing they all have in common is that I've tried to do them.
And, oddly enough, I've never once achieve something I didn't try to achieve.

I was manifesting 94% in my exams but ended up getting 75% . Really prepared well for the exams but because of this loa , each and every thing in my life happening is just opposite of what I really want to manifest. Fuck loa!

Maybe desiring the opposite is the key in your case lol.

Gaining control over one's thoughts is such a laughable proposition that I've no words to match it's laughability. What gains control over what and how, exactly? Anyway, I'd call such being fooled by thoughts instead of controlling them.

Most people confuse luck with manifesting. I’m not religious but there’s got to be some divine order to how life reveals itself. If people could actually manifest, there’d be a lot of, for a lack of a better term, glitches. For example, it would allow 2 objects to occupy the same space at the same time.
