Bit late to this video. I have a 208k mile E34 520i manual, love it to bits. Paid £500 for it 6 months ago, and while it’s awful on fuel, mechanically and electronically it’s perfect. Never want to get rid of it. Incredibly comfy, and I actually really like the steering. After spending most of my time behind the wheel of new boring cars, 30y/o steering is actually much better, weighty but not so heavy that it becomes a chore. Handles great, sounds great, pulls hard, and everything works! E34’s are generally very reliable so, you must have gotten unlucky with yours, but I do desperately want a touring, preferably one of the 6-cyls, and if anyone has one let me know! 😅

My friend tracks his E34 535i constantly, and with M5 sway bars + coilovers + camber plates it keeps up with much faster and newer cars. The recirculating ball steering isn't particularly quick or sharp but it's extremely predictable and has loads of feedback, so it's very easy to drive.

I have a 1982 BMW e21 and its been one thing after another. she is clean tho, but needs a respray soon and rust is starting to show in places. I have done most things on it including replacing all the wheel bushings, anti roll bar bushings, exhaust mounts, new alternator, new water system pipes. Hopefully getting it resprayed this year, maybe at end of summer. And last but not least going to get the piston and piston rings replaced with new ones and the valves also. But she is a project and people seem to admire it when they see it which makes it feel very worth while. 77k on the clock. The only thing that is frustrating me is rechroming the bumpers and window trims are very costly more than respraying the body :O

My best mate had an automatic one of these as his first car. We called it "Pavarotti's Hearse" - it was enormous, slow, soft, rolly, and piles of fun. It was also super useful to sleep in. It died after he overheated it and tried to drive it to a garage.

You can use the loom out of an E34 sedan dash from fuse box to cluster, easier to find as well. Only difference is the length of the harness for the body control unit, worse case you can remake the harness by copying the original if the body ecu itself isn't smoked.

Had one of those 10 years ago, was the latest one's so i think 1995/96 model, was great to drive, good seats, silent.. that play on the steering wheel had too, but was cos of soft sided tires, changed the tires and that was gone.. only problem it had was oil leaking from the back of the engine, between firewall and engine(common issue, there is "plugs" that over the time will come lose/rot or something), oh and lot of electric problems i had to sort out, most of them was cold joints/cracked joints in the electronic boxes. Loved the color it had, the green one that change colors when light change, sometimes it was green sometimes black and sometimes blue :D

I had an old 1990 e34b25. Though i had loads of fun bouncing the front end like it had hydraulics, hitting bumps to make the car light wink individually, and the unending search for “what’s on fire now”, I am infinitely happier with my Toyota.
The old bimmer was still on the road last I checked with well over 200,000 miles.
Nothing I have owned since has had as much class; and I do miss it...Though it was a lot like driving Henry VIII around in car form.
