I know there's probably an animation reason for it, but seeing an untextured Pomni model just standing in all the office rooms is both amusing and kinda unsettling
Y'know after seeing the ending of the pilot, it was the best thing about the pilot. It looks like the exit IS possible and how she fully recognized the VR headset it makes me want to see the series even more, also the fact that the void is prohibited gives me the theory that only the void can gives the answers to pomni's questions. Im so exicted for the next episode
When they were heading off to Kaufmo's room, something I noticed is that a bunch more rooms had their characters crossed off, and I imagine that most of them abstracted, but...what if one ventured out into the void? Caine at least seems somewhat aware of the effect being there can have on a person, so I feel like if we ever fully visit the place where he stores the abstracted, we might meet someone who didn't abstract at all, but was "spoiled" by the void!

@@iwatchstuffs7933 I feel like something worth noting about the first part is that the crossed out figure actually seems to be the black king, while Kinger is the white one, so maybe they came in together or something!
I feel like the back rooms hold the key to escaping. It seems like they change with each player and contain fragments of their past memories - hence pomni seeing the computer and office building. Once someone recollects their memories, he or she can reassemble them and create a self image that will allow him or her to leave through the void. Id like to think a rogue programmer put it in there to provide a way to escape that wasn't necessarily intended. Maybe Caine only knows about the void but not the rooms pomni went through. My head canon says these people were chosen intentionally. They are either lonely, broke, or suffering from treatment resistant mental illness who were manipulated into "trying" a breakthrough therapy. Their avatars undergo a certain memory wipe that allows them to have a basic understanding of their past sans the details. That's why pomni just says "put on a weird headset." The full process was likely much more involved but she doesn't remember it. The hardest to explain will be how the program has gone on for 20 years without the outside world noticing people are gone.
2:19 my thought process for specifically the “Pomni losing her mind scenes”™️ was how interesting they must have been to storyboard because all the compositions in this pilot were FANTASTIC
is it weird that I get almost as much joy from watching the jagged, flat storyboard as I get from watching the complete animation? I just love 2D animation so much, and have nothing against one frame per second animations either
Sometimes I see story boards and wish the show was 2D instead of 3D but this just would not work in 2D at most I can see a 2D character in a 3D world showing up and dieing in an episode
1:40 i didn't notice Kaufmo hits pink monster for many times background while Kinger's panic in the front make me laughing so much and its my new favorite scene now Its really so funny and adorable storyboard!

Seeing them in 2D version is...curious. And i'd just like to say that either they're in 2D or 3D I love the characters so much. Also I absolutely love Jax when he complains because he can't hear the escalator. Truly is a calming sound, and it's so relatable
I can’t get enough of this show. Anything that’s “new” I’ve got to see-like these storyboards. The characters, environments, lore? Just captivating. I know it’s just a pilot, but damn is it one of the BEST pilots I’ve ever seen. Love Gooseworx’s work 💕
There's just something that makes watching these storyboards feel so special, like seeing the characters in 2d, unique extressions or even movements that weren't kept in the final or just to compare both versions. Loved the video, loved the storyboards, great job!
I love seeing this side by side. Also, I know this isn't what the video is about but Pomni's "going insane squeal" in the hallway is top tier voice acting and one of my favorite sounds in the world
I also realized after Zooble’s head smacked into Kinger he looked like he took more impact in the storyboard and was kind of sitting, while in the final he stayed with his stiff reaction and stood there holding Zooble’s head Dang you did a GREAT job man this is SO COOL

1:38 I love how the storyboard to the final version is just 1:1 on Kaufmo's abstracted form comically smashing down repeatedly on the Gloink Queen within frames of each strike. One of my favorite parts of that scene, so I'm glad they didn't just interpret that as "big abstracted monster brutally attacks queen" and instead "haha abstracted monster go brrrrrrrrrrr."
I always thought it was cool how little room for interpretation there is left after the storyboarding/shotlisting. Of course there are creative liberties taken, but it otherwise follows the guides pretty closely.

I can’t believe you animated things for the pilot, that is insane. What do you think episode 2 would be like? My guess is Episode 2 *Episode 2 begins right from where we left off. The whole time everyone is eating, Pomni stares off into space, trying to make sense of this reality, or rather, virtual reality. Jax nudges Pomni* Jax: Yo Pomni *Pomni gets a little caught off guard* Pomni: Huh? Jax: Are you gonna eat your food or can I have it? *Pomni sighs* Pomni: Sure, I’m not in the mood for food anyway *Pomni gets up from the table* Pomni: I’m just gonna head to bed… *As Pomni leaves, Jax opens his mouth really wide and finishes off everything on Pomni’s plate in one gulp. When Jax thinks she’s out of earshot, he finally speaks* Jax: So how much longer before she realizes she’s doomed to stay in this game for all eternity? Ragatha: Jax! *Ragatha throws a piece of virtual food at Jax* Jax: Well I’m right, aren’t I? *Jax turns his head towards Caine, and Caine darts his eyes nervously* Caine: Oh well uhh- would you look at the time? I have some- important matters to attend to. Good night everyone! Or- good morning, umm- bye! *Caine leaves* Jax: Well that was weird *Ragatha facepalms. We cut to Pomni walking up to her door. Her hand reaches towards the doorknob, but she pauses. By her face, we can see she is uneasy and nervous to walk into her room. After a moment, she shakes her head, takes a breath, and finally opens the door. We can see it’s a black void at first, with one white pixel in the center. But after a few seconds, pixel by pixel, it starts transforming into an actual room. Or at least, as actual as a room can get in a virtual reality. There are yellow walls, a bright blue bed with dark blue sheets, a fuzzy round yellow carpet placed underneath the bed, and two red nightstands on either side with a framed picture on one of them. All the colors clash, and we can see Pomni grimace a bit as she walks inside and lays down on the bed and goes to sleep. We then see her dream. A young woman is seen crying on the curb on a rainy night. She then sees a young man extend his hand* Man: You seem…overwhelmed. I can take you somewhere where you can get away from everything. What do you say? *The word “say” echoes as we see Pomni turn in her bed. We then cut to another part of her dream where she is standing in a dark room with the mysterious man* Young man: You remember the terms, right? *The young woman nods. Around her we see other people wearing VR headsets. Above each of them is a screen that shows a certain number of days. “Day 12” “Day 17” “Day 4”. A headset lowers above the woman’s head. The man looks at someone next to him on a computer* Man: Everything ready, Caine? *Caine answers solemnly* Caine: All set Aldrin… *Aldrin nods at the young woman, and she puts on the headset. As soon as she does, we can hear a few seconds of pained screaming and groaning. The girl tries to take off the headset but her whole body is paralyzed. She can barely move. Caine looks away; eyes full of guilt, and Aldrin smirks* Aldrin: Let the games begin… *Pomni suddenly shouts and bolts out of bed. Her eyes are wide open and her breath staggers. She looks at her hands; they’re shaking* Pomni: Caine and Aldrin. Caine and Aldrin. Caine and Aldrin *She repeats this multiple times before finally calming down a little. She takes a deep breath and lies back down. The entire root of the concept is based around early CG computer games, so it kinda had to be 3D.

Episode 2
*Episode 2 begins right from where we left off. The whole time everyone is eating, Pomni stares off into space, trying to make sense of this reality, or rather, virtual reality. Jax nudges Pomni*
Jax: Yo Pomni
*Pomni gets a little caught off guard*
Pomni: Huh?
Jax: Are you gonna eat your food or can I have it?
*Pomni sighs*
Pomni: Sure, I’m not in the mood for food anyway
*Pomni gets up from the table*
Pomni: I’m just gonna head to bed…
*As Pomni leaves, Jax opens his mouth really wide and finishes off everything on Pomni’s plate in one gulp. When Jax thinks she’s out of earshot, he finally speaks*
Jax: So how much longer before she realizes she’s doomed to stay in this game for all eternity?
Ragatha: Jax!
*Ragatha throws a piece of virtual food at Jax*
Jax: Well I’m right, aren’t I?
*Jax turns his head towards Caine, and Caine darts his eyes nervously*
Caine: Oh well uhh- would you look at the time? I have some- important matters to attend to. Good night everyone! Or- good morning, umm- bye!
*Caine leaves*
Jax: Well that was weird
*Ragatha facepalms. We cut to Pomni walking up to her door. Her hand reaches towards the doorknob, but she pauses. By her face, we can see she is uneasy and nervous to walk into her room. After a moment, she shakes her head, takes a breath, and finally opens the door. We can see it’s a black void at first, with one white pixel in the center. But after a few seconds, pixel by pixel, it starts transforming into an actual room. Or at least, as actual as a room can get in a virtual reality. There are yellow walls, a bright blue bed with dark blue sheets, a fuzzy round yellow carpet placed underneath the bed, and two red nightstands on either side with a framed picture on one of them. All the colors clash, and we can see Pomni grimace a bit as she walks inside and lays down on the bed and goes to sleep. We then see her dream. A young woman is seen crying on the curb on a rainy night. She then sees a young man extend his hand*
Man: You seem…overwhelmed. I can take you somewhere where you can get away from everything. What do you say?
*The word “say” echoes as we see Pomni turn in her bed. We then cut to another part of her dream where she is standing in a dark room with the mysterious man*
Young man: You remember the terms, right?
*The young woman nods. Around her we see other people wearing VR headsets. Above each of them is a screen that shows a certain number of days. “Day 12” “Day 17” “Day 4”. A headset lowers above the woman’s head. The man looks at someone next to him on a computer*
Man: Everything ready, Caine?
*Caine answers solemnly*
Caine: All set Aldrin…
*Aldrin nods at the young woman, and she puts on the headset. As soon as she does, we can hear a few seconds of pained screaming and groaning. The girl tries to take off the headset but her whole body is paralyzed. She can barely move. Caine looks away; eyes full of guilt, and Aldrin smirks*
Aldrin: Let the games begin…
*Pomni suddenly shouts and bolts out of bed. Her eyes are wide open and her breath staggers. She looks at her hands; they’re shaking*
Pomni: Caine and Aldrin. Caine and Aldrin. Caine and Aldrin
*She repeats this multiple times before finally calming down a little. She takes a deep breath and lies back down. She stares at the ceiling and fidgets with her fingers*
Pomni: He knows something…
*Pomni balls her hands into fists*
Pomni: He knows something…
