I loved that Chi-Chi is an actual fighter and that Vegeta and Goku worked together. To be honest, I’d prefer this over super right now. This perfectly captures the mythology of Dragon Ball and takes it to the next level!
To be fair Chi-Chi fought Goku in the final parts of Dragonball at a tournament just like this + she trained Goten while Goku was dead in Z. Distinctly remember since Gohan was surprised when Goten told him lol

@Flayme What Solenya and I are referring to is 'Dragonball' Chi-Chi. She is an actual fighter, she knows martial arts (trained by Ox King). This fan animation is taking direct reference from that time in 'Dragonball' when she entered the World Martial Arts Tournament. They're remixing a bunch of different things from the franchise but point is Chi-Chi is a fighter, Toriyama just doesn't do much with that except in the Z flashback to training Goten.
Bro made a hell of a point when he said Vegeta having a sword makes Trunks being good with a sword make more sense. 💯🔥

Fun fact:apparently goku in that form used one of the monkeys king abilities he can share knowledge and abilities with others,hence why vegeta used kamehameha
the entire film has a lot of Journey to the West references and the entire transformation of Goku resembles exactly Son Wukong: toriyama's reference for Dragon Ball
This film is actually a love letter to the often-underappreciated Vegeta. He was the main protagonist here, a tough, strong King, who knows what he needs to do. Kudos to Stray Dog Animation Studios! As someone born in the 80s and experienced Dragon Ball at full in the 90s, this is so awesome.
He was more regal in this than the entire dragon ball series.
No monologues, no playing second fiddle, he just rolls up and handles business. He even puts himself and Goku in the same breath, choosing to lift him up instead of demeaning him.
He even encourages Goku to marry Chi Chi, showing that he knows what’s worth fighting, and even dying for. Simply incredible characterization here.
I also love the idea that Vegeta trained his whole life to fight Broly knowing he's not going to be able to defeat him by himself. It adds so much to his character to see how strong Broly is, know he won't be able to defeat him, but standing up and fighting him anyway because that is what he must do to try and reawaken the power inside Goku. It adds so much more to him as a character.
I will also say, I've never really been into Dragonball, but seeing this video? I get it.

20:53 Anyone else notice the heaven symbol written in the sky? The symbol is "Ten" (Japanese word for "Heaven", "Sky", or "Invincible"). It's the same symbol on Akuma's back. Appropriate they would place it right as Goku transforms into his Wukong form.

So the ‘keepers of the primal light’ to me means that each saiyan has the ability to turn into that monkey demon form (Oozaru form? Plus refereance to Wukong) as a by product of their race being born into having this. Then when Vegeta mentions Goku’s is ‘out of control’, when he learns to control it this then evolves into the actual golden super saiyan form that Vegeta has
That's 100% the biggest ever nod, reference, tip of the hat, whatever you wanna call it, to Son Wukong. Goku's form I mean. The fire he breathed when transforming (I think that's a reference to the Samadhi flame), and the fact that he shared his energy AND technique with Vegeta when they touched fists at the end (Reference to Son Wukong's ability to transfer his knowledge to anyone he touches).
It's so awesome, I love the detail. The studio put so much love into this.
the creator for the video said on Instagram when replying to a fan that his idea for his version of dragon ball was that each Saiyan that goes super Saiyan has their own unique version of that transformation so the monkey super Saiyan form was a form exclusive to goku since Goku is the only character in dragon ball that is inspired by wukong from the flying nimbus, his staff he had in the earlier dragon ball series that could grow in size etc. Vegeta is probably the only Saiyan in this universe that has the og super Saiyan look
I agree! I do feel like Goku literally being Wukong means that he has a lot of raw power (thus why Goku's transformation in the video starts with the Super Saiyen 3 theme)

And I want to call it- when they do the combo Kamehameha, the pink light is the Super Saiyan God/Rose' pink. It's that Divine power.

20:13 I've watched this a couple of times and I didn't even notice that Vegeta transferred his Super Saiyan energy to create the sword and his hair turned black. Good call Bliztek and Joe! And then again at 21:58 when they "fuse" for the Kamehameha, Vegeta is actually borrowing Goku's Super Saiyan energy so he can go Super Saiyan.
The implied lore is pretty awesome. The saiyan energy being like a fire inside that they can all channel in different ways opens up so many cool ways to explore transformations and fights.
its said that Sun Wukong (who goku is based off of heavily.) can transfer his knowledge to others if he touches them. which is why vegeta was able to use the Kamehameha near the end.
This version of goku is more leaning on him being more like sun wukong (what he was supposed to be based on) then what Toriyama did with him.

From the individual "saiyan" traits, Vegeta putting his warrior pride aside to hone goku's raw power, Goku's head injury effecting his control over ki/primal light while also giving him an aloof persona, chi chi keeping up... Trunks inheriting vegeta's sword style, Broly's redefined motivation, son wukong homage, Raditz & Nappa as royal guards to the potential war against the frost demon family.

Love how they made vegeta more mature, like a real king should act. And did you see how goku’s transformation started from the heart , like they hit him where it hurt the most when Brody hurt chi-chi.
I love how this animation just oozes passion and creativity.
They took the prototype version of Super Saiyan that was in Dragonball, revamped it and tied it into Goku's character being inspired by Sun Wukong.
What's awesome about the Super Saiyan sword is that Vegeta realises he's not strong enough to defeat Broly so he concentrates his entire power into a thin blade, same concept as the Destructo Disk, so it can do much more damage. It was a last ditch attempt. Plus at the beginning of the fight he was much faster than Broly but no where near as durable, when using the sword he only had base speed and is around the same speed as Broly.
Attention to details is in top of the line! loving this short movie
Broly every hit had so much weight that it punched vegeta from ssj every time and his tenacity was on whole other level. It implies that it takes a lot of concentration to maintain ssj form (we saw in DBZ how Goku and Gohan trained to be able to keep it indefinitely). However, broly being an exception, a legendary super sayan, he can just naturally fight in his ssj form. It is as if SSJ is his second nature thus Legendary among sayans status. Great stuff
At 6:22 The first Super Saiyan Sword PUT THAT SHIT ON RECORD : ) , notice how his hair turned back normal as all the super saiyan energy was transferred into the blade, what makes that technique extremely deadly is just like krillins nearly unstoppable razor sharp destructo disck that vegeta had to warn nappa about or krillin literally would have one shot napple and killed him early in the battle if he tried to stand there and take it look what it did to nappa face sliced it like butter ,this saiyan energy blade same effect , Broly had no clue how deadly it was until it was too late he lost his arm vegeta is a master fighter and warrior he nearly killed broly on his own and he was not even at full power like Goku was
It's probably the same as how Vegito and Goku Black are able to make their ki into weapons(Vegito's arm sword and Goku Black's Scythe).
@@Urd-Vidan not the same tbh, the technique that vegeta uses here requires all his super saiyin powers (reason why he goes back to his base form while using the sword technique) vegito and goku black can do their techniques without risking losing the SSJ form and that looks more like a beam that they use as sword, not like vegeta here that you can see him holding the sword also
@@MrKurow13 they probably don't need to cus they are powerful enough. Vegeta may have to use everything he has to power up the sword to actually cut Broly, so that why he sacrificed his SSJ while Vegito and Goku Black don't. Plus, it really is just ki manipulation at it's most precise, cus they are forming them into solid constructs and using them as weapons, so same use for the 3 and same principle, Vegeta just needed to put everything in him because of the situation.
@@Urd-Vidan first time vegito used it, he was still in SSJ form against Majin Buu a little bit more powerful than a regular SSJ just because it's goku and vegeta fused but it's not even SSJ2 so I don't think it's a huge difference, I do believe that their techniques are weaker than what vegeta used here against Broly
@@MrKurow13 Vegito is literally light-years powerful compared to Goku and Vegeta separated, even stronger than SS3 Goku in Base. Goku Black is a God inside Goku's body who can fight Goku and Vegeta at their God forms. Both are beyond this Vegeta, who is atleast as strong as Vegeta at the middle of the Cell saga, when they fought Broly. Mind I remind you, this is the end of Dragon Ball and the start of Z, so power levels are really REALLY low.

Been waiting to see you guys opinion. I felt the same with Joe on this, the story telling makes so much more sense. I really hope they expand on this universe. Plus the fact that they showed Broly was so strong he punched man out of Super Saiyan
I would love to see more but taking 4 years for 15 minutes makes full length episodes seem unlikely unless he Kickstarts and hires a whole team of animators.

10:45 YES!!! That's what I said ever since this was released! Every Saiyan's Super Saiyan should be different than other Saiyans. And I'm gonna continue saying it until it comes to pass.
The guy on the right was me to my friends for the past 2 days man. This is what it should have been. Everyone's motivations made so much sense. And everyone is who they should have been. Goku was always based off of Son Wukong anyways (Nimbus cloud, polearm, monkey tail, playful yet stalwart personality, etc). Vegeta still retains his prideful personality, while having a better reason for cooperation with Goku. Coming at this time in the story in the fashion he did, he still completes his goal without losing his tail and wasting time. Raditz and Nappa get a promotion instead of dying for basically nothing. There's so much more I could say.. I'd do anything for an official backing of this. Great video you guys!
I was never into Dragonball. That was my nephew's thing and he's the one who told me about this. If they rebooted Dragonball and made it like this, I'd watch the shit out of it. This was f-ing awesome.
The reason Goku doesn't remember chichi is because he met her when he was a kid. Then he went off to train there was a time skip and he came back older so he kind of forgot about chichi and the promise he made. Not because he has amnesia or cuz he hit his head when he was a kid.

When brolly blast goku and his shirt his suddenly gone watch it carefully. It actually happens overtime. The energy burns that shit off
The main thing I loved from this was how there wasn’t a crazy amount of jittery frames to show the fighting it was quick but you could see every thing that was thrown and swung and I love it and it felt so heavy and fluid motioned. Love it and also that rewrite of history was top.

Vegeta using his super sayian ki to make a sword is homage to vegito using spirit sword and shows that vegito has so much energy he doesn’t have to sacrifice being super sayian to make a sword. Leaves room for character development and I love it 👌🏽

What I also love about this is how they give goku that sun wukong look seeing as he is based of him. When I found out that he is based of of sun wukong I really thought they were gonna put more effort in goku giving him more power that makes more sense in the direction of sun wukong.

For everyone that didnt get it: Gokus transformation is based on Wukong, the Ape King. He can share his power, soul and knowledge with whoever he chooses to. Thats why Vegeta knew Kamehameha.

He don't got amnesia, the beginning is what actually happened at the end of dragon ball. He just forgot about her, since it was years ago that they met
I don't know if anyone already told you guys this, but the beginning of this short already tells you a lot about the timeline of when this is happening. It says A.F. 31XX New Dominion, which translates to After Freeza. Need more proof? Look at the statue and look who the emperor is stepping on...it's none other than Freeza. Which means, this is a divergent of Dragon Ball where Freeza lost the war against Planet Veegeta.
This is anime of all anime in history. Nothing can't top this this new version of dragon ball.
The interaction between him and Chi Chi actually happened in Dragon ball. him losing his memory in that moment wasnt a change. but this video is fantastic. I love the saiyans being a race of golden warriors instead of just a warrior race. I like how an unrefined super saiyan has ozaru features ( I know it was a reference to wu kong) similar to super saiyan 4, a perfect way of showing an unrefind primal light where you slightly lose yourself to the primal side... similar to the ozaru. The saiyans learning super saiyan before makes sense, when children master it in canon you'd expect saiyans to have turned before. This is what leads to the saiyans not being under friezas control and led to them being a proud race of golden warriors who are probably less evil because of it.

I been waiting in this reaction. Honestly when I do this comment I’m not doing this for attention honestly when I first watched this I teared up I remember watching Goku train with Master Roshi meeting krillin meeting Yamcha and then going to the tournament I remember the feeling of when you first turn Super Saiyan I remember when rabbits first arrived on the island I remember him transforming into the great ape and his son following suit I remember when trunks was first introduced I remember when Vegeta turned margin so many memories so many memories just balled up inside of me when I watch this broke my heart honestly just love letter to the fans as well as the series as well as his creators did so much for me and I just let loose I just cried because I did wanna training 100 times earths gravity I did want my hair to Spike up and go golden in my eyes transform green I didn’t want to become stronger. And around the time I became a martial artist at the age of seven and eight just watching this guy grown everything that he went through never fighting for the thrill but fighting to prove his worth and protect others this did so much for me growing up and I love this reaction
This is the version of Vegeta we should've had all along. I also like the way they didnt make him SHORT in height and that he's already KING!

Yeah this was fire. Vegeta has the best dialogue scenes, he can motivate a man to become a beast, the gym every man needs lol.... And even the super sayian sword makes sense they shouldn't just be able to boost there power and have their hair change they should be able at a one stage to us that energy to make swords, they can use their ki for blast like final flash, kamehameha etc... They did it with black goku in super but he the only person to do it in any Dragon ball seris.
The team behind this, I really wanna see their version of Future Trunks and Gohan.

So, after watching the video, I scrolled through the comments. Hoping I would find someone who may have already explained what I am about to explain.
Dragon Ball is heavily influenced and based off of the Chinese story Journey to the West. Where the main character is the monkey god Sun Wukong(which is where we get Son Goku). Now, Goku's transformation in this video is an homage to Sun Wukong. Even down to HOW both Goku and Vegeta did the Kamehameha together. Vegeta lands next to Goku and hold up his left wrist. Goku then put his wrist to Vegetas, transfers enough power for Vegeta to turn SSJ again, but also gives him knowledge of Gokus moves. Which, is an ability of Sun Wukong, as well. By touching wrists with someone, he could transfer power and knowledge to that person. So, what I find to be the true beauty of this video, aside from awesome animation and fan service. Is the call backs to the real source material, while still being able to come up with an interesting, unique story. They made it their own, while keeping nostalgia, while also keeping to the OG source material. This fan film cant get enough praise.
