I often wonder if I could shop at Waitrose on a budget and I’m sure if I had to, there would be a way. I’d have to use really frugal recipes and eat less but that isn’t a bad thing. I’ve also been into my local shop early evening and there’s been some really good reductions so you get best quality food but at good prices. We all do pay a cost to shop in cheaper stores, pressure on farmers, animal welfare, environment which isn’t good in the long run. After hearing the latest animal cruelty headline with the RSPCA, I’ll be going back to being vegetarian because it’s hard to trust welfare schemes run by supermarkets. But I am speaking from a position of relative privilege and I don’t judge people who need to feed their family but even on a tight budget, you can make good and ethical choices - lots of the older generation did this for most of their lives. Like you, I’m so grateful this Christmas that I can fill our fridge and cupboards with good food and a few treats. We don’t drink alcohol and that saves a small fortune. Loving vlogmas, I’ve managed to watch them all, thank you!
Buy good quality food in smaller amounts that will be eaten, rather than stuff that will be thrown away.... any waste is like throwing money down the drain...
Can I please ask, what do you drink at Christmas since you don’t drink alcohol? Sparkling water or mock champagne or fruit juices or punch or …. what beverage makes it feel festive?
@@cynthia57169 Posh lemonade or elderflower fizz, we like Sainsbury’s cola too - very cheap dates! We only drink cordial usually so fizzy drinks are a treat. We are definitely eaters rather than drinkers and I’m grateful that it just doesn’t bother me. Now if you took away chocolate, that would be a completely different matter!
I loved seeing the Christmas lights - reminds me when my children were younger and we used to drive through town to look at all of the lights on the houses. Waitrose is a rather enjoyable shopping experience, isn’t it? Love to drop in sometimes for the odd treat. I’m currently sitting in amongst the piles of presents and also feeling very grateful that I can spend Christmas with my most loved people and give them presents I know they will love. Thank you again for vlogmas, it’s been wonderful! Happy Christmas to you and yours x
Morning Jane been so busy hardly had time to watch any of your videos so thought I would give myself some time to watch. Being grateful ☺️ is the way forward. We may not have lots of money but we have health happiness and a big extended family and that’s all I need xxx
Love your cardigan. Looks very cosy and festive :) I know what you mean about Waitrose having a very different shopping atmosphere! 😂 here in the North we don't have Waitrose but i remember it from our house-sitting adventures further south. Very genteel and good quality stuff but extremeley expensive! Here our equivalent is Booths, which we use occasionally for 'posh' gifts 😄
I'm doing a reverse advent too but I'm dropping mine off after Christmas because i read somewhere that that's when the food banks need donations more. Less people have the means to be generous come January!

@@melaniebaker2233 I have found excellent reductions in Waitrose! Need to go at the right time

I received your book as a Christmas gift. I was thrilled to get it and am enjoying it very much. Merry Christmas from the United States.
Oh, that's brilliant! Happy Christmas

@@jenm692 oh yes! I discovered Booths when we were in the Lakes last summer
A really lovely video Jane, thank you. ❤ merry Christmas 🎄✨
Im in Northern Ireland, no waitrose here. But we do have M&S

I have stepped out of the 'collecting for the foodbank' thing by setting up a monthly Direct Debit for the Trussell Trust so they can buy in bulk.
That was my plan, but then they were asking for donations before Christmas. They might get there before....
Hi Jane, your parsnip nut roast sounds delicious,😋 I think caution is advised though as parsnips are an aphrodisiac apparently! 🤭

This made me laugh ive just come back from Waitrose with my 30p veg, the discounts on their fresh counters can be amazingly good value.
Your nut roast recipe sounds lovely. Any chance of you doing a video of it some day?
Yes, very likely!
Nice Christmas lights!
I’ve never made a nut roast Jane 🎄
@BeFree-BeFrugal give it a go! Loads of lovely recipes online
Haven’t donated? 🤔
