Damn man its great to see recent content from you! I was afraid you had quit TH-cam. I wish this video had shown up in my feed, I'm subbed so I thought new videos would show up. Anyway, awesome to see you are still here. Stay safe during this COVID-19 craziness.
For those who're looking for wide bladed blunt longswords for hema fencing, i have a blunt Alexandria longsword made by Blackfencer, and it looks good and feels right in the hand too. The only problem is the diamond cross section of the blade is very flat, with the ridge being almost non-existent. But of course they had to make it that way to reduce weight in the blade without taking away from blade width. It's also worth mentioning that the original Alexandria longswords in the museum have very short handles which is not optimal for hema fencing which requires bulky gloves to be worn, so i asked for Blackfencer to modify the design to use a longer handle and a pear shaped pommel and they did it perfectly imo. The end result is something that resembles Albion's Mercenary sword but slightly heavier with longer crossguard and hilt, so in terms of handling its more akin to the Albion Ringeck. All in all my favorite blunt sword so far and for the price it's as good as you can get it.
I love the way you argue on reenactment of blunt sword from historical sword. Its either you get heavier but similar shaped sword or similar weight but slighly thinner (maybe distorted) blade sword.
Hey man just letting you know that someone on Nexus made two mods for Skyrim: "Believeable warhammers" "Slimmer axes and maces" So the idea is similar as with the Better shaped weapons mod but now it's for blunt weapons
Hey Snap, I'm Brazilian and looking for a longsword. Is it better to import them, or do you know if there's a good dealer here? I assume it's really expensive to import them because taxation is so hefty here...
A Feder is to a sword as a foil is to a sword - nothing like it lol. At best its a fat rapier but since they are generally faster, a feder is probably betting for tournaments but I'd rather simulate historical fighting rather than Olympic fencing, but to each their own.
Feder means feather in german, the practise sword is called like that because of the weight I would suppose so I think with out the part after the guard it would still be s feder
Lol you could have saved a lot of time. Feders are used because they typically have shilts, have a thicker blade, and the top 1/3 of the blade is more flexible, as we'll as theu will have either a rolled or otherwise flattened and widened tip.. They also sometimes have provisions for the thumb on the handguard. Lastly, they typically have longer hillts compared to a period correct longsword as well. The shilt is extra hand protection, it defects the opponent's blade away before it reaches the handguard. The thicker flat edge on the blade make it less likely to cut anything, and the top 1/3 if the blade being more flexible make it less likely to stab into anything its thrust at, the tip being rolled or flattened obviously also helps with this, and the hilt being longer offers more leverage with handwork.
I'd actually use the distinction that Fabri-Amorum uses. With schild - feder, without schild but with thick tip - HEMA sword and the rest of his swords are blunt swords. His distinction makes things clear in my opinion.
Generally......in your opinion How good is the quality of Paul Chen Longswords.? i AM CONSIDERING PURCHASING A chen made Bastard sword,,,,,,can you help?
My wife's read travel advice before we traveled to Mexico, it goes like this: "when traveling, use local anti mosquito body spray, it is also recommended to come with a white boyfriend" Lucky her.... Edit: if this ever gets to one of your comments videos, you complained here that the mosquitos only come for you...
