    It’s money they get back to the cost of their whole wedding😂😂😂

    I miss the food at the wedding 😂 and usually the ceremony in the morning too (I’m a person who really like traditional outfit + the decoration so I really like to show up and see each wedding style) but mostly the evening/night party food that’s what I miss 😆 but pandemic struck 😭

      You probably recognize a few of them! That was a really fun wedding with so many of us there.

    This is no longer correct. Minimum now is 100 bucks per person

      High class friends are pricer. 😂 In the provinces it can be less. I do know some weddings in Phnom Penh still average $25-$40 per person.

    Money 💰 🤑 💸 in an envelope got it. I had a friend who was having a wedding and she expected all her guest to give 140 and up....she thought 100 was cheap but now I know.

    • @ThatGuyInCambodia
      @ThatGuyInCambodia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh wow, yeah maybe if its a big family… Or maybe if she gave 140 at someone else’s wedding and she expected the same back from them - this is a very common concept in regards to wedding gifts.

    New subscriber here. Also what is your personal perspective on khmer traditional wedding?

      Thanks for joining! I honestly really enjoy most aspects of the traditional weddings like the traditional attire, honoring the parents and family during the marriage, the symbolism of families joining (not just two individuals). I love the traditional instruments as well. At our ceremony we made sure the music wasnt so loud (so we could talk with guests, we asked for God’s blessing (rather than the various spirits and rituals that sometimes happen) and we didnt do alcohol (just because it tends to be excessive at weddings and we thought we’d be different). What’s your take on them?

    3 days sounds awful as a potential groom.

      I actually helped a friend after he passed out during the final hours of his own wedding. My wife and I enjoyed our Khmer wedding though. They can actually be a lot of fun.

    • @stevenjustice105

      I would rather save money on the wedding and put a downpayment on a place to live. My pay stubs are the proof I need to show I can provide for my wife. 3 days and I have to pay for it all? And I don't get any of the things I want? Not gonna happen that way.

    • @ThatGuyInCambodia
      @ThatGuyInCambodia  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevenjustice105 Yeah, I'd put the down payment on the house first then save for the wedding. Small weddings are win-win in my opinion. Definitely a way to spend excessively and a way to do a wedding on a budget. Gotta price shop and bargain for sure. Definitely good to honor the parents (this should mean a lot to your wife too) by having a wedding and continuing to support and love them as they age (even when they don't ask for it or tell you they don't need it cause they don't want to "burden" us).

    • @stevenjustice105
      @stevenjustice105 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ThatGuyInCambodia unfortunately her parents are not very good people. Thankfully she recognizes this. Her brothers and sister on the other hand are great. So I honor them and help them. But a small wedding seems impossible. She seems dead set on traditional Khmer wedding. I have been pushing back and I think we have been able to compromise on a blended weddding.

      @@stevenjustice105 Sorry to hear that. good on you for trying to do your best to honor them in those circumstances. Feel free to shoot questions or reach out if there's anything we can help with.
