Take a look at where Sailors sleep and live onboard US Navy destroyers in this short excerpt from our longer documentary about life onboard destroyers!
Hell no. Wake up for balls to 4 or balls to 6 watch with headache and sick stomach and everyone's boots and coveralls all over the compartment floor. FFG sailor here.
1:51-12:02 Ironically sailors on the Belfast used to say that sleeping in a hammock was such a gentle sleep as the ship would virtually rock you off to sleep
It's been about 50 years since I slept in a bunk if I did it now I last about 15 minutes before I have claustrophobia and had to get out of there! But somehow it was a comfortable home back in the day I guess you get used to anything if you have to
I did that once and someone came along and lifted my rack while I was sleeping. They lift inboard, not from head to toe. If that makes sense. And there’s a prop rod that’s used to hold the surface panel that the mattress lays on. When the prop rod is holding the mattress up, your stuck in your rack until they or someone else lets the mattress back down. I hope all that makes sense. If not, maybe one day it will! Lol
So you’d rather go army or marines and sleep outside with the bugs, rain, heat or cold? Navy you get a bed, 3 hot meals. Never thought about the chair force.
Lol back in the day we didn't have breathing apparatus issued. I remember the birthing units kept at a setting between artic and your balls just froze. Every unit that had TV & VCR featured 24/7 adult entertainment... which made no sense to me. You're stuck why torture yourself.
Curious: do they assign people on the same watches the same rack room? Makes sense as you would want to avoid people coming and going at all hours of the watch
Oh my God, I can only imagine that’s worse I’m going to be sick in August and I see this is what I have to look forward to. It doesn’t bother me long as I’m not on the submarine I rather be above water than below
Omg! Yall has 2 curtains and a safety strap... I had 1 curtain, I traded music it and no strap... top rack, heavy rolls and medicated, bad combination🤣
This is why I never let anyone record me. Because then everyone has the right to make fun of my shitty looks! Rocha hasn't hurt anybody, but was stupid enough to go on camera!
Small boy+Choppy seas= best sleep you can get
Fact 😄

It's true! Even on a cruise ship, you have the best sleep with the gentle sway of the ship.
one rough nite of eating too many bean burritos and everyone suffers miserably
Eating half dozen hard boiled eggs leads to complete privacy
Where do you sleep on a Navy ship? On watch, of course.
🤣

Don’t leave your rack unlocked while your sleeping!

And yet we survived 😂
We never had curtains and never had breathing devices.
Better than being homeless.
Just!
I'll 2nd that.
The food is great!
It may be tight-spaced, but I'd be grateful just to have somewhere to sleep.
Ask me again why I joined the AF.
Exactly
Chair Force?

My berthing was under the jet shop on the Saratoga.
You definitely had to adjust but once you did, it wasn’t too bad.
I have tinnitus now but…
You got it so good today. USS Intrepid 1971-1974
What if you're 6ft and over? I'm 6'3 and this seems like it'd be a nightmare for me.
I'm 6' 2". My feet graze the back and I got about 5 inches from the front to the top of my head. Height is about the length of your forearm
@@carson3201 Thanks for answering!
I love this because I served in the Navy
I had the top rack back in the 80s. Your right you have more wiggle room.
If someone farts its over lol
Oh my God, especially when it looks like they’re six in a room or something that’ll be terrible
looks comfy but i imagine claustrophobic people will get anxious just by watching this
😳😳😳😳😳 yup !!! I'm tripping out lol i could never sleep in that
you get used to everything. and when you come tired after the shift, then even there you sleep like a baby

MRI cabinet size
1:33 😂 I feel him. I was thinking the same thing 😂
If you hot rack you need to get out the Navy ASAP
Hot racking seems so unsanitary.
I’ll be honest I always slept well if I was on a ship, because the ocean did kind of rock you to sleep.
Claustrophobia at its best OMG

Rocha looks like the guy that never showers and stinks !
