    Symptoms of Fault:
Knob rotating but no response on the monitor. Knob works up-down-left-right but no rotation. When the wheel is turned, no reaction on the screen will be shown. All other functions such as confirming and tilting the controller are given.
    The Fault:
A plastic shaft within the scroller knob unit snaps causing the scroll function to no longer work on the screen.
It is a common fault on these vehicles for the comand controller knob to stop functioning correctly. A poor-quality plastic shaft within the controller knob unit snaps. This causes the common symptom of the scroller rotating as normal but for there to be no reaction on the screen. If all other functions are working except the scroll this indicates this shaft has deteriorated and snapped, this is an extremely common fault. Mercedes Benz fix is to replace the complete knob and button unit, this is extremely expensive and would only fail again.
    Our Solution:
Restore full function with our replacement metal shaft.
Our part allows you to replace just the shaft within the knob unit which fails, without having to replace the complete unit at vast expense which would just fail again. Our shaft is CNC machined from billet aluminium then anodised. Beware of 3d printed, plastic and cast metal parts which could fail again. Our part will last the life of the vehicle. Using our part replace just the component that fails with an improved design part and restore full function permanently.
    Vehicles Affected:
    C-Class W204, C204, S204.
    CLA-Class C117, X117.

The re-assembly shown in this video is incorrect. At the 5:28 mark, they show the metal and
green elastomer part installed up-side down.

When prying up on the outer ring you may scuff up the plastic. Use a rag or cloth to keep from scuffing up the black plastic as you pry upward. Great video. The assembly process gets a little funny if you don’t put it back exactly as you took it apart you can have trouble screwing in the one long screw at the center of the dial. The housing was a little rough Bc it felt like I was going to break them but, get right under them and pry straight up it will make a loud click as it pops off. This worked for me! Good luck.

Hi. When I put the housing back over after putting all pieces back on, I no longer get the click functionality. Any ideas as to why this is?

Correction. In the video you guys placed the green piece with the metal back the wrong way. It should be flipped over.

For me it was because the bottom of the shaft was supposed to be 7mm wide, but it was only 6.75mm. The gear head it fits over is 6.9mm which means I initially had to force it on. This is a problem because the shaft needs to be able to move up and down over that gear head freely. I remedied the problem by using a small file and enlarging the opening to 7mm. After that, I got the click back!

Make sure the bottom of the shaft is 7mm wide! If you have to force it over the gear head, you'll lose the clicking functionality. It needs to be able to move up and down over that gear head freely. Mine was too small so I used a small file to enlarge the opening.
Also, make sure you add a bit of grease to any moving parts, especially where metal meets plastic.

Really helpful video, but I've no idea how to get the unit out of the centre console in order to carry out the replacement!
Do you have a similar video to explain how to get it out?

Hi there, unfortunately we do not have our own video that demonstrates this, however there should be similar videos on TH-cam to show you how. - Georgina, X8R Ltd
