It Happened in Windsor - Yorky Climbs the CKLW Tower

In this episode we hear from an eye witness who was present when Norman "Yorky" Haworth climbed the CKLW - TV Tower.
Marc Brode grew up in the neighbourhood around CKLW -TV and has many fond memories of Yorky, going back to the 1950's

I lived on Crawford avenue in the 50's, We kids gathered down on the lawn to watch this event.

I worked in engineering in the mid 60's. not sure if it was Yorky but we did have people periodically climb the tower. in one case the fire department refused to climb up to help a person who "froze" around the 100 ft. level. The fireman said "he has two ways to come down either by himself or by gravity". better yet, someone cut the upper guy cable and almost took the tower down because hockey night in Canada was blacked out. A letter was sent earlier to the station with a warning but it was ignored. Had the wind speed been above 20 mph from the west it would have been lost. Never did find the culprit. That was around 1966. I was working that night.
