    UPDATE March 10th 2023: my unit has starting failing with the audio cutting out at times since about a week ago. seems like the audio jack itself is starting to go. sometimes unplugging and plugging in my earphones will fix it for a while, but it's annoying enough that I wouldn't want to use it anymore. While it did last quite some time (1 year+) which seems okay considering the price, I actually don't use them that heavily. So I would probably still say reliability is below average. Not sure if they have improved it over the year or so with newer batches, but it's something to be aware of at least.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    to be honest this is a good product, and it is cheap have been using this for one year and half the only issue for me was the battery got blaoted, i think they need to improve their battery and also the clip broke after just a month of use but all in all great product i like the sound quality it is better and cleaner crisp compare to using your headfone directly to your phone or pc.

    Hey Alex, do you have any suggestions on a dongle/dac for my iPhone 8 coupled with Tanya and Oxygen possibly with Cirrus Logic chip?
    I have the Tanchjim Stargate dongle dac and the Apple dongle already but I am a little unsatisfied because of a lack of more power.
    Note that I found out that the iPhone SE P2 jack is better that if my dongles. Thanks

    • @axhng
      @axhng  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hmm. i think iPhones might be a bit hard since ultimately there is a bottleneck at the lightning port. I haven't really tried much options, but JCALLY JM10 with BHD firmware (which outputs max power all the time), seems to have a bit more power than the apple lightning dongle. I'm guessing tempotec sonata hd pro with bhd firmware would be the same too. A lot of the cirrus logic implementation seems to use adaptive output, which sort of doesn't work well for the Tanya especially. I do know the apple usb-c version is a bit more powerful than the lightning version though when plugged into a computer, and it's a fixed output. So even though it's not the most powerful, it sounds better than this UGREEN DAC and the JCALLY JM10 (with stock firmware) to me.
      I have heard that using the apple lightning camera (to USB-A) adapter can help to draw more power, but not sure how true though. I'm starting to feel like maybe bluetooth DACs might be easier to deal with compared to lightning port (also not sure how long apple will keep using lightning). 😂 The iFi Blu Go seems to have a decent amount of power and is using CS43131 too, though i've heard the bluetooth connection is a little weaker.

      thanks! unfortunately i've not tried anything else like this so can't say for sure. But the Fiio BTR5 and Qudelix-5K does come to mind as 2 of the options that is very popular in the audiophile community. so probably can't go wrong with either of those!

    JCALLY JM20 has the same cs43131 dac chip but what's the difference between that and JM10?
    Have you tried the JCALLY JM40 or JM50 with the ESS saber dac?
    One more question - KZ EDC are hard to drive. Which dac is best suitable?

    • @axhng
      @axhng  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      not sure what's between those 2 dongles actually haha. but at this point i'm probably not going to be trying more dongles since a lot of the time they don't sound that different to me. I only hear bigger differences when power are involved like bigger dongles with more power, or regular dongles with less power. and i don't really need a ton of power most of the time. 😂 I think anything that can output a higher power all the time would work? A lot of the CS43131 implementation seems to use adaptive output, which might not be the best option for harder to drive, but lower impedance stuff. I imagine Tempotec Sonata HD Pro or JCALLY JM10 with BHD firmware would be fine? But in the end, they are still dongles and will have some limitations in terms of output. 😂

  • @donindiana8504

    Does it has a low noise floor? I'm sensitive to Bluetooth dongles having constant hiss even when music is not playing. It's a problem for me because I listen to music on low/medium volume most of the time.

    • @axhng
      @axhng  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      hmm. i'm probably not the best judge of this since i'm not very sensitive to hissing, unless it's from something very obvious like on the KZ aptx hd adapter. but it seems fine for me at least even on KZ ZSTX.

      no problem. unfortunately while the specs hinted it might be able to, but when connecting it to a headset with mic, the mic doesn't seem to work, and it seems to rely on the mic on the dongle itself? not sure why though.

    Hi @Alex, does it support aptx ll? I'm looking for a dongle that has low latency for when I watch videos. Thank you

    • @axhng
      @axhng  ปีที่แล้ว

      hi there. it doesn't AFAIK. but for watching videos like on youtube, the delay should be almost unnoticeable. using the video below to test it on my ipad with the dongle, i don't see/hear any delay. i hear the tock sound at the same time the ball hits the bar at the bottom. most OS i think has some way to compensate for audio delay through bluetooth since the audio is fixed and predictable. they can just delay the video a little and the audio will be in sync. things like aptx LL is mostly for gaming where the audio feedback isn't predictable. Also since it's a dongle and there is only one receiving device unlike TWS earphones where there are 2 that needs to be in sync, the delay will be even lesser.

      the BTR3K is probably still a better bet since it has better support, and seems to be more durable. but it is a pretty old device at this point and FIIO has mentioned at the start of the year that they will have a new model out this year, the BTR11, and the timeline they gave was around June. so at this point, i think better to just wait for that newer model. 😅
