I’m 6’7” and love the soulo, my go to tent. Everything goes outside and I vent it as well as I can , ace tent , just bought the vern1 2024 as it gives more space and more options for protection from the wind because of the doors . I will compensate for the weight by ditching other stuff . I thought the tent would be a winner. Just carry less water and get it later in the day . 500 quid is a no brainer
Ah yeah with out a doubt mate that’s the way to do it. My wife spent my tent money on a week down south not chuffed & valley & peak are out of stock absolutely gutted. I see divorce on the cards 😂
I ordered direct from nortent, they took the money so I’m hoping it’s in soon . I thought they would be gone as soon as Andy’s video came out from backpacking uk 🇬🇧 bought it
@stevecopeland9170 Dam Dam Dam Dam Dam I’ll do it but I’m in no rush. I love to go out and don’t usually review a tent until a year after I have had it I’ll be patient I’ll be a good husband to the wife besides we have a holiday home on the beach next month good chance for a beach camp 😆
I'd love to see a side by side comparison...in high winds. I feel like I'd still take the Soulo for 3 reasons. 1st: 2.4 kg is already a bit heavy but still a bit better than 2.6. I know for most normal sized people, 200 grams difference is insignificant. 2nd: The tent (Vern 1) looks pretty bulky when it's packed, and it takes a huge space in the backpack, but of course I should wait with this statement till I see a comparison. 3rd: We know that a Hilleberg can last 10-20-30 years. How long a Vern 1 will last, we don't know yet.
Now thats a Great comment if I get it then I’ll do it because I think your right those extra 200g can make all the difference. My problem is the moment you stick an air mat in that’s it no head room. I always think about the slap off the wife if I order it though .😬
I like your style 😅 I do not own any Hilleberg, but have both the older Verns in addition to the PC version coming in soon. So far, the tents have been great, and I am sure the 2024 versions will be even better. I am not sure if I will pull the trigger myself. Looking forward to watching a comparison video sometimes in the near future 👍
You will get a true comparison as I’m not sure about the true measurements either also I have to wait to next month to receive this so not to happy either I missed the cut off date
Great review. Just sold my Hilleberg Soulo for £700 and bought the Vern 1 2024 for £520 from NORTENT itself. Only problem is I’m in Spain and the tent’s in the UK so not seen it yet.😂
Hi you can buy the tent for £486 direct from nortent. I’ve put it up & it’s very well made & got 20 pegs with it. Really happy & I’m going to get out in it next week 😃
I feel Vern 1 and 2 have taken a lot of design from the Kuiu Storm Star, yet in no way can compete with it. The Kuiu Storm Star can withstand winds 60 plus miles per hour (watched the wind test on all sides). The Kuiu Storm Star 2p is still king, rock solid bomb shelter, and very little interior flapping. Now this is a 4 Season tent that has always eaten the Hilleberg Soulo BL hands down!
Sorry I didn’t see this I agree it seems like every tent maker takes a little from others & I have had my eye on the Kuiu for a long time. But when you look at makers like Nature hike they all have the same design at a much cheaper price I’m not saying there better but it does make you 🤔 think.
Controversial But brave. As a Vern 1 early adoptor, I have found so far, it's looking good. Time will tell, but Nortent are not a new company and have a great line up. Thanks for the video.
Nortent Vern 1 (2024) imcoming on Friday according to DHL. I wasn"t going to get the Hilleberg, instead I was looking at the Kuiu Storm Star but the vents on it prevented this. I'm wary of initial Yourube hype especially when most early reviews have come from those that were gifted the Vern 1. I paid with my own money and I think this could compliment my existing collection of tents. All bases are hopefully covered now. Only criticism I can see prior to buying the Vern 1 is the lack of factory seam sealing.
@@escapeoutdoors. it’s a good looking tent and I’m sure it’s good value but it’s been over hyped as a solo killer and now it’s been tested in strong winds and failed big time🤷♂️
@@frenzy0018 yeah literally just watched the video. The link is below well thank god I kept my Soulo 🤣 I always seem to think they get to hyped without a good test. th-cam.com/video/vNsmWT0oIbQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=88eg0X8YoNa8zPoJ
Ive ordered the vern 1. If I could have stretched to a brand new hillaberg I would have instead. It's made from stronger materials, is more waterproof and is proven to be an absolute tank, whereas the vern 1 is still in its infancy. I have no doubt the vern is a great tent but I wouldnt sell a hillaberg if I had one, to get the vern 1.
So the Hilleberg in great condition can only be worth say £300-£350 now, I mean if you can buy a new, with warranty Nortent for £520 why would you pay anymore than £350 for a minty fresh Hilleberg, what do you think.
I wouldn’t go that far just yet I think second hand for a soulo now you would have to either match the competitor or prove why it’s still better investing in the Hilleberg. As a second hand tent can the hydrostatic head still withstand that amount of water as for selling the Hilleberg BNWT I don’t think that Hilleberg can really justify the price no more. But for instance if you look at the specs the ground sheet on the Hilleberg has a hydrostatic head of 15000 where as the vern1 has 10000 on the floor. there is still certain things to weigh up And I’ll be honest I have just payed for the vern 1 and it cost me £480 with no ground sheet from Nortent direct so when it comes I’ll check them both out .
@@escapeoutdoors. I think you are right but I think in time, a short time the used prices of the Hilleberg will drop drastically, they have to but if someone wants/needs to sell the Hilleberg now is the time before everyone knows about the Nortent.

See Rowan Wildcamp’s most recent Dartmoor trip with the Vern. Failure in terms of leaking and pole failures. Many will say, well I won’t be so daft as to go out in that weather, and that may be true, but it’s the weather which decides, not you. If you want a strong tent for a good value cost I’d suggest looking at the Asta Gear Crescent 2 in 20D for a 4 season tent in wind conditions up to 40mph - ALL the performance required for most sane wildcampers, and representing fantastic value for money, which is the principal reason that the Vern is being widely touted; lighter to carry too. No tent is invincible, but there is a law of diminishing returns observable as the wind speed approaches 40mph and above. Labels don’t cover your ar5€ when the wind’s a-blowing, and beyond a certain level, you’re just spending more money for achieving the same purpose, ie a safe, dry and hopefully comfortable night in the wilds, but beyond a certain level, you’re just tempting fate.😊
