It is worth remembering that certain moves (like Body Slam, Stomp, Heat Crash, and Heavy Slam for a few examples) bypass the accuracy check and double in power vs an opponent that has used minimize. So there is counterplay, some of which is even common moves on semi-common pokemon, but it's pretty limited overall.
Out of all these moves, only one really appears often in the competitive scene, which is heavy slam. And while it's a good move, it should be noted is that Alolan Muk's true potential is revealed in doubles battles because alchemy is one of those abilities that will only come to play in a double battle. It can be hard to focus on one singular pokemon when you'll be facing two pokemon, plus there are moves like rage powder or follow me which force the target to attack the user of the move. That means. They'll have to try and take out the follow me or rage powder user first, giving muk ample time to prepare and also sweep the opponents entire team. So while moves like heavy slam are good against minimize users, in a double battle landing a hit against a minimize may still be difficult 😅
@@michaellarose4913 Heat Crash also sees competitive usage via Gouging Fire, and Body Slam sees niche usage on Regigigas, Snorlax, and Slaking sets Not that any of those last three are *common* by any stretch (Gouging Fire is the 20th most used though), just that it *does* see competitive play with some regularity.

I brought Muk, Smeargle, Flamigo and Screamtail to a tournament. Performed better than i expected and every opponent looked defeated even if they beat me. If id actually played any competitive in the past decade i could have done really well. Dont sleep on the Muk luck.
Could you theoretically use an air balloon on Muk and have a Shedinja as your partner? I don’t know enough about movesets but if muk has a priority move that can hit shedinja he can kill it before getting hit and breaking air balloon, then once he gains wonder guard he’s much harder to take down. Not sure how feasible that would be but it would be pretty cool to see someone pull it off
Don't forget that they can also bring in Flamigo as well to copy the stat changes. Also Scovillain gets the move Rage Powder so good luck trying to hit Muk with a strong single non-spread move attack.
@@CaTastrophy427 Muk, Scovillain and Flamigo only take up three move slots for the strategy to work. You could easily fit on something like Landorus-T for Intimidate and a Ground immunity, and Rillaboom for Fake-Out pressure and Grassy Surge weakening Earthquake. And even if you don't have them as somebody else pointed out you could always hold an Air Balloon. Also Earthquake ain't that common for a reason. It matches up terrible into Rillaboom who's been consistently top ten in usage. A move that destroys more niche and gimmicky teams but matches up terrible into meta teams is frankly just a terrible move. Rillaboom is frankly too common to make EQ worth it since if they bring it it's practically a dead move slot. Also unless you have a Pokemon resistant to Ground or immune to it on your side then they'll also take a decent chunk of damage as well. And the types that resist Ground are both hit for super-effective damage by Fire meaning Scovillain could be trained to be bulky and then try to pick off your weakened teammate after tanking a hit. Flying would match up well into Scovillain, however as stated before I don't have to keep them in and I can just switch out. Plus I don't have to lead Scovillain and Muk and honestly I don't even have to bring them to the game. If I lead Rillaboom instead of either you've brought a Pokemon with what's essentially a dead move slot. Edit: and also Flamigo is a Flying/Fighting type so it's immune to EQ.

This was in a tourney online this weekend and was holding up the whole tourney going to timer I’m sure many times 😭 btw the UP reference was out of pocket but I love it 😂
There was a strategy involving muck and other Pokemon that are poison adjacent to create a super regeneration wall that was extremely hard to kill. The insanity of the strategy basically meant that your Pokemon were regenerating full hp in as little as one turn no matter what they were taken down to. You would also use protect and substitute or similar moves on your Pokemon so you would be even harder to kill. This is the one and only time that I have ever seen sound based attacks actually be useful because of how they can bypass substitute for direct damage. However I also understand that the team has been basically banned in many tournaments because it has been known to make a battle that normally wouldn't take more than thirty minutes up to six hours. The only reason why the battle even stopped after that if I remember correctly was because of struggle which the opponent of that team had to deal with. This was also a time when a few particularly interesting moves were available in the series one of which allowed one of your Pokemon to restore the HP/PP of another so that team was a nightmare. I don't know much more about it but I tested it out a long time ago and it was able to completely destroy an all legendary team in 3v3. Note the team I tested it against was heavy storm, Kroger, kyrum black, electross, volcanion, Xerneas, and Yveltal. Sometimes Yveltal would be replaced with Darkrai but that team stayed pretty much the same almost always. Another thing about that team was that I intentionally dropped Kyroger's speed to the lowest possible level because whichever severe weather effect happens last is the one that takes effect.
Alolan Muk has become one of my favorite Pokémon because of my monotype Dark type team I use on Showdown. Curse+Gluttony+Aguav Berry+Recycle. Admittedly, it has been a while since I played Pokémon, but this is one of my favorite setups.

I still like the set up I saw from someone with an oricorio with dancer and they had a team with pokemon that knew moves like dragon dance quiver dance petal dance and due to muk now having dancer it can use those moves while playing defensively like subbing and then getting a quiver boost and if the opponent decides to use dragon or swords dance it gets to use like 3 moves in a turn
