The book of Job focuses on questions about God's justice and why good people suffer. Job, a wealthy man living in Uz, receives four troubling messages in the course of one day. Each message bears devastating news that his livestock, servants, and ten children have all died due to either natural catastrophes or marauding invaders. Job tears his clothes and shaves his head in mourning, but he still blesses God in his prayers. Satan appears in heaven and requests that God grant him a chance to intensify Job's affliction in order to test his integrity. This time, Job is afflicted with horrible skin sores. His wife advises him to curse God and die, but he refuses and chooses to remain faithful.
