      Thanks! I now have an iron gate there and climbing red and pink roses, it is unique place to sit and watch the sun go down! The only thing I'd do different and I should of showed more of...is put in more rebar..it's in there, I just didn't show doing it and wish I had...lol...we've gotten some very strong winds and so far, the Lord has kept it standing!

    Sherrie D Thank you!!!! I love it! We have our shrubs (boxwoods) planted on the front side of wall and just need to make the capping stones (building the forms today) and making my own fountain face from a mold I bought on ebay as well. I think you will love that too! I will video tape it so you can see it all. I have to put down landscape fabric and black mulch around bushes now as well. Then we work on inside of patio/gardens area. That will contain a fish pond, perinnials, roses, and such...with paved patio area to enjoy the waterfalls and five other water features. It is to be more of an English style water garden area.

    Thank you for the video; if you wet the stone in a bucket of water first... they will set better for you.

    Ah ha! I will watch that and start on a smaller one. I will be using sandstone cut and raw. I in S. B. (earthquake country) I like the way the missions were built, also like the look you get.

    I love the wall and archway; it looks so nice. Did y'all consider using some rebar to support your arch?

    • @OurLittleHomestead
      @OurLittleHomestead  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've not had a problem since we built the archway... but we did use rebar in the wall. and ran it into the foundation footers and into the ground below that.

    In wonder if you can build a roof like that of at least 12 inches thick.

  • @miketlane
    @miketlane 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    im planning a new build using ICF and was thinking of using fake stone but id prefer using local river rock because it would look better. what is you're thoughts on mudding and stacking one side? looks like you covered a wall on the house?

    • @OurLittleHomestead
      @OurLittleHomestead  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, and I lost that laptop and lost the footage of us actually stoneing the room addition. Off to our Civil War Re-enactment...but when I come back tonight...I will go into this further...I'd love to help you DIY!!
      I did not form the house walls, they were stacked same as I'd do for brick...but it's much heavier and tiring...I went up 3' a day! Used lots of brick ties too. Put heavy wt black roofing paper and then used the tyvek house wrap on top of that...sealed bottoms and around windows and doors with tar tape and metal tape around windows/doors...and Insulated room with best stuff for a 2x4 walls...It's my favorite room in the house. Would you like an updated room tour? Inside and out...to show how far we've come since this was taken?

    • @miketlane
      @miketlane 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Janie Pendleton id love to see all you got thanks! my build im planning, its going to be ICF walls so i will be attaching to the poly foam and im told no need to do any weather proofing since its concrete and foam so saves a step with tar paper, i was thinking the brick ties would be a must. i plan to have a 2 story garage apartment built on a construction loan but slow build the rest on my own. going for a castle look and cant beat real stone for that.

    no rebar through the columns?

    • @OurLittleHomestead
      @OurLittleHomestead  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the columns were only 2' tall before they made the bend...I added brick ties in there with small stones and this did the same thing...keeps from cracking. There is rebar in the wall though. If you are in an earthquake zone...I would put in in some rabit fencing or other made for this though.

    sorry. it not reinforced. to high not to have reinforcement. good chance it will fall apart in certain areas over a short time

    • @OurLittleHomestead
      @OurLittleHomestead  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually, it is reinforced with a wire product made just for archways...It looks like a 'z' bars. I just cut that part out of the video and put it in the first video when I built my other brick archway...It's holding strong and well. We get 60 MPH winds here and today it's about 25 mph winds and still, no issues. The right mortar mix has a lot to do with it as well. The only thing different I would do would be to use a deeper pour on my foundation.
