Hi, in this video I bought an Amazon Returns Box to attempt to fix the broken items.
So what will be inside, will anything be fixable or will it all be broken beyond repair.
    Let's find out.
If you would like to support these videos, please click here / mymatevince
Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things. I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things, so I hope that comes across in this 'Trying to FIX' series. Many thanks, Vince.

With the WH-1000XM4, I am a Sony repair agent. The "wind rushing sound when ambient noise is enabled" is often due to faulty ambient noise microphones. These are located directly under the ear cup foams, right on top of the speakers. They are very easy to replace however spare parts are difficult to get. Shout out to JoesGE though, he has heaps of spares for all types of headphones and small accessories

Nice headphones, but I can't move my head/walk with mine. They're changing my volume down when I move, it's been this way from the factory... I never decided to return them though, is there anything I can do to fix them?

Thanks for the recommendation for JoesGE, will likely prove much better than Sony's official encompass parts store or AliExpress
With the XM4's, do you see problems with the swivel hinges often? Just had to replace mine recently, on both sides. Took quite a while to receive the parts. The part of the plastic that snapped seemed very thin.
In addition, can faulty ambient noise microphones cause issues like a loud whistling noise in noise canceling mode? I tried cleaning them, on the contacts, under the rubber covers with isopropanol, but the issue always seems to come back after a while.

Lol the binoculars issue is very familiar to me
I was having this issue with my oven where it wouldn’t turn on randomly or would turn itself off after a short while
I tried everything deep cleaning it slamming the door or gently closing it
Tried putting something infront of the door everything you could think of i tried
We were just about to call it a write off and get a new one when I had one last go at really scrubbing the pin and socket that latches the door closed and tells the oven it’s ok to turn on when I realised the pin itself had just come unscrewed slightly
Itd been a couple months of frustration trying to cook anything
Almost several hundred pounds to get a new one
And all it was was a screw thatd came loose
All that hassle and it took five seconds to fix
And here we are a year later and it’s still working perfectly

Hey Vince, here's a handy trick for determining a speaker's polarity. Take a 1.5v battery and connect it to the speaker terminals. Observe which way causes the cone to move outward. Remember the battery's polarity. That's it! Getting this right is crucial for optimal bass performance, so be sure to pay attention to wire orientation.

I got out my spot welder on full blast and blitzed the lugs in welds.
I;ve done the same with the rotation motor, didnt take this one to bits, just spot welded it.
    All good.
I had gone through the process to have anoyher camera sent as a replacement, the seller sent me a new one but did not want me to send the broken one back (more than likely Knew about this fault)
So I got one for free.
I'll do the same with the new one.
    Cheers Ray

A phone charging like this means the battery is flat. The charge controller tries to safely kick start it by applying a little current until it comes back to life. It may take 2-3 hours depending on how much juice was left in the battery. You can't turn on the phone nor see any indication on the screen while it's in this state. Once the battery come back to life (if it ever does) the screen will come on and display an image of a battery. You still have to wait a bit until it changes to at least 5% before you can turn the phone on. The USB issue is related to this aswell. The USB controller chip is powered by the USB port and it initialize itself so you hear the connected noise but then it tries to talk to the phone to actually transfer data to the computer - you can connect to a phone that's off to recover data or flash the software. It can't come on since the battery has no power so the USB controller resets, that's the disconnect noise. If the battery has power then the charge controller is faulty.

That's true but most chinease phones just flat battery you need to charge it with power supply to 3.7v at least
If battery doesn't accept charge you can revers polarity with power supply for 2 seconds and charge it normally some batteries protection hang and this method is the way to fix it

Certain phones cannot recharge the batteries if they are too discharged what would be necessary is to check the voltage of the batteries if they are too low it will be necessary to recharge them up to 3.7 volts no more with a laboratory power supply

I Geek camera. Seeing just those 4 gears reminded me on repairing my quartz clock movement. Bought in 1991 with a Westminster chime to add to a brass carriage clock. It died in 2021. So looked for a replacement, but non like this German one, now all the speakers are not internal like this one. Time for a fix. Took lots of photos of disassembly of many cogs. All that was left was a circuit board and speaker, plus the drive motor. Connected it to AA battery and motor dead. Then discovered no power exiting the quartz crystal. Had to buy 10 in a pack. Very fiddly job soldering this little tube in place. Anyway replaced all the cogs with a wipe of silicon fluid. It worked and now today still working like new. Well pleased. Love your channel as before knowing have fixed lots of stuff, mostly electronics.

One thing I do is save the electronics out of anything , including kiddy toys for things like that little switch you found broken in that alarm. I ended up breaking into a toy my grandson had to fix another he really wanted working again. I go to resale shops often and will pick up electronics for cheap. Now days, with the cost of replacement parts on some items, its best to have a box of parts available. I hate waiting for a parts order and would rather just swipe parts from a dead unit. I tried fixing a trail camara once, it turned out to be a loss. I tried anyway. Good video! Feel free to make those type of video's anytime.

Best way to tell polarity on a speaker is take a small battery like a AA sized, connect the wires to the speaker and then to the battery, when the cone comes out you have the correct polarity for + -, if it goes in it's reversed.

  • @jb678901
    @jb678901 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

When soldering the wires to the speaker...check the polarity with a small (AAA or AA) alkaline battery first. BATT POS to Speaker positive (RED) / BATT NEG to Speaker neg (BLACK or WHITE) should push the cone out. Not to be done for an extended amount of time...just a quick check to make sure the wires are soldered correctly vis a vis polarity.

On the binoculars…. One eye was engaged to the focus. One was not. One was moving. One was not. When you clipped in the pin on the bottom and got them both to move, you should’ve set them at the same focus first so they match. Because you were just at a random focus when you ran it all the way in or out, the other lenses couldn’t go all the way because the other one had bottomed out! Not sure if you could’ve ran say the right one all the way down. Pull that pin back out so you only control the left, run the left out and then lock them together. Hindsight 20/20 14:14

  • @techbox9473

two fake cameras is normal, it doesn't mean its dodgy. I would just try to re-flash it anyways. you could also just use a different PC that you don't care about (Like a test PC). You can also disconnect as many things inside the phone (except for the battery and any cables leading to the charging port) and let it charge overnight. I have woken up dead iPad batteries with this method. Its because the screen and other components use power while its charging so it cant charge. Once you get it above that battery threshold it should work.

The spring sticking out of the back of the Yale door/window contact is a tamper switch.
You stick or screw the mounting plate to your door or window and if anyone tries to tamper with it by removing the door contact it will sound the alarm. The spring just applies pressure to the microswitch keeping it pressed in.

And while I was at it I found something interesting. My cam, like yours, has 2 antenna but only 1 is attached. I thought maybe it was broken but no, the MOBO itself only has one connection for it. The other antenna was still wired, but the wire was super short and just glued into the case, but otherwise not attached to anything.

Yes, I have Amblyopia. It is weird because the bad eye is actually good, but the connections to the brain aren't quite there. The brain makes up for it though so stereo vision and spatial awareness still works well when both eyes are "online" but there is a big difference if one eye is shut over the other. I also found those 3D monitors very strange, I could see alternate scan lines depending which eye I blinked.
Binoculars I just ram the adjustment to maximum. Telescopes are monocular and I just use my good eye anyway.

But most often these devices do not use just a single capacitor on a processor supply, so just one broken won't immediately cause such issue...

Love the videos, sad thing is although Amazon have a dispatch centre in Australia, I believe we're too stingy to send stuff back so no mystery boxes in Australia except for fake ones on ebay. As to the Sony headphones I was lucky enough to pick up a set for 5 dollars op shop wise, and your right you get the buzzing if it's not set right but it's very eerie noise cancelling wise because your right it's dead quiet in cancellation mode. Lovely video again Vince very watchable and great to see all the good stuff Amazon put into their English mystery boxes. Also I may be wrong but on the white lead mount on the speaker there is usually a plus sign in the plastic. As to making a difference, I would think it would because you want the speaker to push out in the right part of the sound sine wave, which means positive it pushes out, and if reversed some audiophiles say even a single speaker will sound different, but I'm usually wrong.
