Alcohol content of Beer and Wine in the "olden days" was alot lower than it is now - especially in the biblical era. Main reason people drank alot of wine/beer was there were no water treatment plants and water hundreds of years ago- so water was full of nasty microbes - there were also no sewage treatment plants either.. so water contamination of towns and cities was a huge problem.

Another point for drinking in the middle ages is there alcohol was probably less filtered so if you drank a beer it probably still had actual bits of barley and hops floating around in it, and it was probably more like guinness than like budweiser. The same is probably true for most wine. Also, though I'm sure there was plenty of fire water available, beers and wines had a bit less alcohol than what is typical today (some just had less, other were diluted somewhat) and many had more various herbs infused into them.

You aren't wrong in that distilled liquors are actually more modern than most people would think. It takes a fair amount of fine machining to make a still capable of producing strong liquors. Take this with a grain of salt as I can't recall the source but I remember reading somewhere that general rates of alcoholism got much worse after liquor became more widely available

I bring a guy named Fred with me, whom I shoot, in order to demonstrate what my gun does. I am immune to arrows, and disease. I have no need for food or water, but I can be killed by any melee attack. What would the sixteen guards do when they burst into his room? Would I be seen as their new god?

Maybe do a medieval peasant video too. Their diet was different because they usually didn’t have access to as much meat. Some villages did. Also you were right about the alcohol being like Gatorade. It was made different than ours. Small beer was more common and only like 2%. There were beers that could get you hammered but they drank that later in the day

Speaking of playing sports wasted, my father was in a rugby union club in Australia, and all the teams had to abide by the rule, if you substitute out you need to skull a beer before you can go back in, commit a penalty I think you had to have a shot of scotch whisky. Essentially the game starts normal enough but turns entertaining by the second half, and no one cares who wins cause everyone just drinks together afterwards. I never once seen a single fight or disagreement, maybe alcohol makes sports more entertaining and friendly 🤷‍♂

Aha so that’s where the idea (…) cure a hangover by drinking more🤔🤷‍♂️
When eating innards (intestines & such) you kinda need to marinate it for at least 12h before to make sure they’re not as rubbery, & brain is pretty much tasteless so I would recommend using a Mediterranean recipe (they honestly know what they’re doing with food🤤)👍
(To the host (if they see this)) You could have used alcohol free beer’s & wine’s so you wouldn’t have been hammered all the time, but still get the experience🤗👍

Well, this is kinda an aristocratic diet, more than an average one. They didn't butcher an animal every day and lacking fridges meant not being able to conserve fresh meat for long (that's why they cured it). Most people were poor and the most readily available food items were vegetables. Also, they suprisingly ate more fish than the nobles.

6:20 I expected that misconception to come up. No. People drank water. Most of the time it's fine. In fact, the only times you hear about it are the exceptional times when it's not fine. Like during cholera outbreaks.
" 'And oh,' the historian wrote, 'He had a regular drink of water from the well. This was noteworthy.' "

I drank from a "Pure Mountain Spring" once, and got the worst stomach infection you could imagine, for like a week. I wouldn't recommend it.

Natural water is inherently more risky, and thus requires better knowledge of what to avoid, than modern purified water. Doesn't mean that all natural water is risky. Doesn't mean that people didn't drink water.

No they didn’t. Most of the time small beer was the drink of the day. Numerous famous and well respected historians talk about this.

The beer in that period had less alcohol in it than today's beer so u weren't technically drinking the beer of a diet an age gone by. The gf sounds pre madona and unfun. And btw midevil ppl worked very physical jobs. They worked sun up sun down all weather conditions sometime smiling their own foods after a hunt or making their onw beer from their own weat that they brought in themseleves by hand. They didn't work in their home at a desk all day and then work out for maybe 1 hour a few days a week. They'd not be big on that diet under those working conditons. They'd need those calories to not waste away.

As someone who has parents who become unpleasant when they drink too much. I get where the gf is coming from. To the drinker he may not realize how rude he is being or remember.

People in the Middle Ages ate different foods depending on where they lived and how wealthy they were.
Nobles ate a near carnivorous diet whereas peasants rarely got meat and lived off vegetables & tubers mostly.
