Usually my husband and I don't exchange gifts at Christmas, but this year we both need/want a couple things, so we'll save them for Christmas. We have one daughter, a son-in-law, and three grandchildren. Our daughter talks with her kids, and they pick out what they want from the different toy catalogs. Everything's been ordered from Walmart and Amazon, and some things have arrived. We write a check to our daughter and another check to our son-in-law. We send a check to my husband's sister, as she always remembers us with cute little gifts for us and our daughter and her family. Only one of my brothers sends gifts, and I really wish he wouldn't. I told him to just buy for our grandkids as we don't need anything. He travels a lot and used to send souvenirs from every trip. I finally told him I had no more room for souvenirs. He loves to shop, and I'm afraid he learned that from me. I'm 8-1/2 years older, and I used to walk with him to the shopping center, and we would look at everything in Grant's. It was kind of like a Woolworth. We spent hours in there, especially at Christmas time. Our daughter and son-in-law will spend Thanksgiving with his family and Christmas with us. We're struggling after the election, as my husband and I (and my siblings) are the "liberal" ones. My husband served in the USMC and the US Army, so I always considered him to be pretty conservative, but he has his limits! You can delete my comment if you find it inappropriate Kayla. I'm just having a hard time right now.
Kayla I am so happy to see you feeling better and crocheting. My husband and I do not exchange gifts We have 2 daughters and 1 son-in-law All in their fifties. No grandchildren. We usually buy gifts for our kids but this year we are going to spend a couple days at the beach for our Christmas. I think we have all reached an age where we just want to spend time with each other I’ll probably sneak in a couple small gifts for the “kids” 😊

When I was young my sisters & I couldn’t wait til the Christmas Sears Catalog came & we would mark all the things we “wished” for knowing we’d never get all ….how exciting to remember those times…. You’re a “ crazy” friend but I am too! It’s great to see you!
Those colors are working up beautifully! Like yours, our Thanksgiving will be a combination of who-chose-what-to-make. We had a family suicide earlier this year, so it will be our first holiday season without that loved one. It will be emotional, but its a blessing we can share the day.

In my family we get together as adults and we buy the little kids presents and we enjoy getting to see the kids open up their presents but my younger sister and her daughter and Son-in law and their kids will be in Texas to celebrate with his family

My husband and I generally buy what we want when we want, depending on the item. At Christmas we may buy each other gifts or bypass it all together. We tend to buy more for Family and Friends vs buying for ourselves. Especially this year, when we have had a rotten economy.
My daughter is cooking Thanksgiving for the 5 of us at her sisters house. Can’t wait, because I get cooked for instead of having to cook. I do think I’m I’m going to make that carrot soufflé, I can’t believe that Piccadilly recipe is online. So cool!!! Have a good night!❤

I know what you mean by taking the granny squares. When I get tired, I have to start over several times or just set it aside for a few minutes, and then start again after a rest.

I was rewatching this and realized the colors of your square remind me of a forest. The very dk. green is pine trees, the brown is the one needles on the ground. The other greens various trees and some growth under some of the trees. Beautiful.

For Christmas we give our sons money as they're all in their 30s & then they buy what they want... at their request. Then we have Christmas sacks with a few little treats & fun gifts that are not wrapped that they have to feel & guess what it is which can be funny. When Big Daddy makes you egg salad you might put it in the food processor. It makes it fluffy with no bits of whites or anything in it. Just a thought. That’s how I do mine sometimes. Hey Kayla, continuing to pray for you n your health issues!! I have a very serious brain disease that causes severe tremors, very shaky hands, fingers, even upper body…. I’d not crocheted for yrs hardly at all. But a few months ago I tried starting again (I missed it soooo much), and am able to crochet now even if I’m shaking from tremors.. I’ve made many smaller items and several larger ones too, All for Christmas gifts. I’m working on a granny square lap throw right now, using 4 different colors, 4 weight yarn, using a J hook. I’m a bit more than half way completing all the squares I need (8.5” sized). Then I’ll join them w/a single crochet stitch n then do a granny border (3-4 rows). Takes me longer to crochet now, but it’s so fun n relaxing for me! Feel better soon!! 💗
We always buy ham, turkey, and sides from Honey Baked Ham Co. My husband makes cornbread dressing. I make mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. We have bought the HUGE pumpkin pie from Sam’s Club in the past, but most of us are diabetic so we don’t need to be eating that! 😂 The sides that we buy are sweet potato casserole and green bean casserole.

Can no longer multi task, memory reminds me of Swiss Cheese, etc, etc. When did ALL PRINTED material get sooo small😳? But I can still get up every day👏- not that I always want to🫢. For Thanksgiving we are having dinner with my husband's parents and my brother and his wife and family. At Christmas we set a budget for family we buy for and my husband and I don't really buy for each other. Stocking fun stuff only really. We get eachother little things through the year. We have one son who is 7 and we set a budget and depending what he asks for is how many gifts he gets. I always buy him books and a couple new board games that are kinda not included in his budget. Im currently crocheting some puff stitch christmas stockings for gifts for my brother and his family for Christmas.
Glad your feeling better..I'm making winter scarves with scrap yarn. I'm from Western pa..it will be snowing soon. Don't overdo things too. Take your time.

Oh but the colors are beautiful! And your granny square worked up beautifully! Christmas is different every year for us now that our kids are older. With the cost of shipping it is easier to have items drop shipped to those who are out of state that we are sending gifts to. I do crochet or hand make many items as well. Have a great night! both my kids started cooking young, because they were picky and if they didn't eat i told them to cook for themselves and that is how they learned, now they aren not picky anymore, I am very picky

My Granddaughter became a Vegetarian when she was about 7. She had eaten chicken strips before that . But one day she decided no more meat. She is 31 now and still a Vegetarian. She says it’s the texture of meat she just cannot stand.

For Thanksgiving we are having dinner with my husband's parents and my brother and his wife and family. At Christmas we set a budget for family we buy for and my husband and I don't really buy for each other. Stocking fun stuff only really. We get eachother little things through the year. We have one son who is 7 and we set a budget and depending what he asks for is how many gifts he gets. I always buy him books and a couple new board games that are kinda not included in his budget. Im currently crocheting some puff stitch christmas stockings for gifts for my brother and his family for Christmas.
Glad your feeling better..I'm making winter scarves with scrap yarn. I'm from Western pa..it will be snowing soon. Don't overdo things too. Take your time.

So happy to see you crocheting despite how you are feeling. I agree 100% about those anniversary cakes! I just worked with them recently and they were horribly splitty! Oh but the colors are beautiful! And your granny square worked up beautifully! Christmas is different every year for us now that our kids are older. With the cost of shipping it is easier to have items drop shipped to those who are out of state that we are sending gifts to. I do crochet or hand make many items as well. Have a great night! both my kids started cooking young, because they were picky and if they didn't eat i told them to cook for themselves and that is how they learned, now they aren not picky anymore, I am very picky

I am working on a baby blanket which is half finished. I will be starting on my first crochet stuffed animal, an alligator for my granddaughter for Christmas. Wish me luck.
It’s getting cold here in Pennsylvania like 36 degrees. I guess next week there is a cold 🥶 front coming in from Canada and maybe even some snow. I think when it does snow it seems more like Christmas.🎅🏻

I'm working on finishing a few blankets, shawls and a scarf.
My Granddaughter became a Vegetarian when she was about 7. She had eaten chicken strips before that . But one day she decided no more meat. She is 31 now and still a Vegetarian. She says it’s the texture of meat she just cannot stand.
