    This juvenile Bald Eagle arrived on July 26th after we were called by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. The eagle was near his nesting area but not flying, skinny, and having difficulties.
    Upon initial examination, Martin noted that this was quite a rare "white belly" Bald Eagle. Usually, juvenile bald eagles are mostly brown, this one is unusually white. Because of poor nutrition however, the eagles feathers were in very bad shape. Though physically fine, the poor condition of the feathers made the bird unable to fly.
    The juvenile Bald Eagle first got a big meal and plenty of nutrients. For the first couple days, Martin fed the bird to make sure he got enough nutrients. After only a few days, the eagle was able to feed himself. Martin then moved the eagle to the large chamber with a young rehabilitating Golden Eagle.
    Most likely, this juvenile Bald Eagle will have to stay for a year or more until new feathers grow in properly. Such a long stay is also an expensive stay.

    🔺 Our Mission 🔺
    Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and education.
    🔹Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release 🔹
    The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal.
    🔹 Informing, Educating and Inspiring 🔹
    The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
    🔹 Martin Tyner 🔹
    Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
    At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
    “One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
    Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
    He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.
    “Grandpa believed in a very simple philosophy; that a person should get up every morning and do good. Doing good means that you do well for others and doing well means that you do good for yourself. There is nothing wrong with doing well, but Grandpa always believed in doing good.”
    Martin's book, Healer of Angels, reflects back on his life: from a young boy terrified of birds to becoming the first man in North America licensed to train a wild golden eagle in the ancient art of falconry.

    • @ericpmoss
      @ericpmoss 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some mammals use slow blinking to signify non-aggression. Do the birds have a similar signal you can use, or are they wired to be in "back off" mode until they have gotten used to you?

      Does a mature white belly look like a typical bald eagle or do they retain their white undercarriage after full maturity?

    • @robertlukacs1762
      @robertlukacs1762 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Do the eat rabbits? Your cause is wonderful and I thank you for that. I used to raise butcher rabbits but had hard time getting rid of them. I’m thinking that the rabbits could me medicated for worms, mites and lice like rodents are done. Plus thinking that live rabbits will help retain their wild hunting behavior. Plus help them in ripping their kill apart. Small rodents they just swallow them up. Juvenile rabbit would give them more exercise and experience for when released back into the wild.
      Also have a question. I have 20 acres in southern Colorado high plains desert region. Can these birds be relocated or is it best that they’re not?

    thank you for taking care of these magnificent raptors, i found a white arctic owl flying toward a roof top up in upper east side Manhattan. ran up to the roof and found him on floor against wall. i was glad nobody saw him and went to a friend i knew in building and got a baby blanket and found carboard box . i had no fear i gently walked up and it seems he wnted my help. h i wraapped him and he was upset at first but i looked straight at him and did bird acting like my king pigeon i found and talked and cooed and he gentled up. i called the bronx zoo and they sent people over to take him i kept in touch and the care takers kept in touch with me , i was happy they did, b/c i was falling in love with it, but knew it would be wrong to keep him, he was lost and mal nourished, he bounced back and i was told he would be sent back to his natural envirnment, it still boggles me how he came to east spanish Harlem and i found west about a mile in nj was the NJ wet lands and i saw two stalk like birds in east harlem flying straight toward the wet lands so maybe white arctic owls do have man encroachment probs and got sick from looking for a new place to live like in the wetlands, but that is just my thought.
