I put a new belt in about 8 years ago. Didnt use it for a long time. Ff and rew works fine. But now seems not enought power to drive the tape for playback. Any ideas?
WM-5 works well, new belts, missing spring for door latch ( the one you said not to lose) also plays then stops after 5-10 minute. Any suggestions for either issue would be great.
As far as the playback issue goes I'm not too sure, potentially friction or something catching internally. For the spring you may be able to get some on amazon, I've seen compression spring kits that come with a bunch of lengths and diameters though I've yet to try any.
Thanks for this. I picked up a used WM-5 and I was afraid to open it up until now. Mine spins fine without a tape but only plays for a half second before giving up when a tape is in. It rewinds and fast forwards fine though. Think it could be the belt?
Almost certainly a belt, it's likely still intact but has loosened, should be a super easy fix as it won't have oxidized to the flywheels or turned to goo.
@@irastechcorner6678 new belt did the trick, thanks! Now I’m hunting down a staticky pop I hear ever seven or 8 seconds. Other than that it’s in great shape. Thanks for the advice.
My wm-5 has the same issue intermittently, I believe it's bad capacitors but cleaning the head thoroughly did seem to go some way towards minimizing it.
@@irastechcorner6678 I'm not exactly sure what fixed it but it's better now. I took it apart, removed the belt, put it back on, reassembled and it worked. Anyway, thanks! You brought another WM-5 back to life.
Have y just a heads up, the gear split effects the wm-2 as well. The wm-5 is just a wm-2 with a metal case and that little audio board for the volume wheel. They sell new remanufactured gears now! Just search eBay!
Thanks for the comment! I was aware of the similarities between them, I just wasn't confident if they suffer from the same issue as they're the only walkmans I own using that tape transport that haven't had the gears crack. My DD models and WM-R2 have all had cracked gears.
Hey I like your channel, by any chance can you do a wm-7 repair I’ve been really curious on the mechanism for that and would love to see a repair for that!
it is wild hearing your voice after so many years, I hope you have been well my friend!

Thank you so much ! Fixed my Sony Walkman WM-2 using this tutorial
This is great! I hope these videos catch on because there is really nothing like this on TH-cam- only very amateur jobs.
I can't wait to see what other videos you come out with!
Excellent video keep them coming.
Where we can find it please

I believe a lower parts kit for an AR15 has that size spring.

I'll see what I can do, I currently don't own one but hopefully that's the next addition to the collection.
Cool, maybe if I purchase one would you like to check it out? I’m probably not going to but just in case
Great video! :) Thanks
Almost fooled me for a DD model.
Need size of belt
