No, they were talking about national dishes. So a dish that belongs to a top 3 or so in the country, it doesn't have to have been invented in that country. And pizza is one of the most popular dishes in America. In fact, it's so popular there that they've made their own kinds of it. You can easily tell the difference between an American pizza and an Italian pizza.

    • @ds5379
      @ds5379 ปีที่แล้ว +185

@@raistraw8629 let's assume for a minute that the American girl does consider American pizza to be American. Not acknowledging that American pizza is a descendant of Italian pizza is ignorance at its finest. Centre of the universe mentality at its finest. The girl was quite obviously not likely American from the language she spoke, and when she said that her national dish is pizza (well it's not really the only national dish as the Italian cuisine is amongst the most diverse but certainly one of the most famous), she still thought she might have been American.
As I said I'm not Italian but European, and this video exposes Americans exactly as they are. Not necessarily bad people but ignorant of a world outside them, and certainly ignorant of the European roots that made them.

That's the problem, you assume. Go with what you see and hear in that video.
It's not about your ignorant pictures you have from a nation (not that you are totally wrong) in your head, it's about what she actually said in the video.
It was obviously a joke, she even said "so it's italian?" after she laughed.
You can say she's not the brightest bulb in the chandelier because after singing Italia and the pizza thing, she still thought it might be Spanish.
But to say she is ignorant because you assume something we did not see or hear in that video makes you....
Ah, forget it, I don't want to, let's end it in a good way.
Much love from a European neighbor. 😘

@@bruhman5385 not sure about that one. It's not nice when don't know the origin or the most famous food in the world that literally everyone knows it's from Italy... It's not about having it not some sense of humour, it's about not liking the ignorance.
To us the Italians by the way it's offensive twice: since the Americans made a disaster out of our delicious dish, adding whatever trash on top of it, changing the procedures of preparation, ruining it completely and labelling whatever it came out with our Italian name "pizza"... instead of keeping it genuine, keeping the taste of fresh and few simple ingredients, they ruin it completely adding sweet sauces on top (BBQ sauce, mayo, ketchup), ground beef, eggs, fries, wieners, pineapple and whatever else... and even trying to steal the paternity of it saying it's an American invention and taking the merit for something they raped and transformed into a zombie version of what it is supposed to be 🫠
The only real pizza is the italian-napulitan one with no filling in the crust, with low base, few fresh ingredients and, besides to tomato and mozzarella, 1, 2 or 3 ingredients on the top. That can be called a pizza. Everything else is/can be edible, but it's not a real pizza. It's something similar that can be liked or disliked (and to me everyone is free to eat what they want to... As long as they don't call that pizza, if it's not a pizza).
      To us it is important.
It's our culture, our identity, and we don't want it get stolen and raped from other countries. Do whatever you like but don't call it pizza and don't say it's one of your inventions.
      It is not.
The food is a sacred and almost religious tradition in our country.
And the reason our cuisine is almost always ranked as the absolute best in the world is because we defend its simplicity, its purity and are really strict about it all. We also have one of the strictest (if not the strictest) legal regulations about food, protecting the origin of hundreds of thousand of products that each must be made according very specific rules and procedures to be able to get the DOP, DOC or IGP certifications that prove a food product being original and made to rule of art.
Only those are original Italian products and you can find them worldwide in the Italian shops...For us it is a business but it mainly is an art and it's our culture.
To make Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, for example, you have to have a special breed of cows that are fed with a special type of grass in specific meadows in a delimited area in northern Italy, they have to live in a specific range of temperature and have to have a specific age at the time of milking... Then the cheese have to be stored in speciak stocks made with a specific type of wood and have to sit there for a specific amount of days and treated in a specific way...
That's just an example of how much we care about our food and products.
If one of the steps is not respected, it's still cheese, it can be sold, but not Parmigiano Reggiano.
We give importance to what we do, there is a knowledge and a reason why we do it like that and why we're strict about it.
And also there is a reason why when the tourists come to Italy and have a taste of some real Italian food they say it's mesmerising and nothing like the (napulitan) italian pizza restaurant they've had in their home cities (the ingredients make an awful lot of difference).
The quality is everything to us.
We're maniacal about it, and that's what makes us stand out in the whole world not just for food but also for fashion, design, manufacturing, art and culture in general.
I'm not saying were perfect or the best in the world. Our economy and politics are not the best, we're not the strongest military wise. There is room for improvement in many aspects.
But we have an awful lot of culture and want to share and diffuse it as much as we can (as we already did when we were the ancient Romans and basically conquered and civilised almost the whole Europe and Mediterranean, bringing alphabet, language, institutions, technology and civilization to other populations that were far behind development wise). And that's why I've spent some time writing all this.
All these things considered and replying to your comment, I hope you now get why we're proud of our pizza and can't stand someone ruining it or saying it's not Italian... To us it sounds like if the aliens stole your little, cute, beautiful and innocent daughter Sarah, then they exposed her to all kind of awful and nasty experiments and mutations and then showed her again to you saying this is their daughter Sarah (and she'd be a fat giant frog with 5 eyes, glowing purple skin, her clothes half broken apart). How would you feel? I think you'd feel like that is not your Sarah, and that is defenitely not their daughter and that's not how it was and how she's supposed to be. You would feel angry and like someone stole something that is yours, that used to be amazing and that now is awful and wrong and they even have the arrogance to call her with the name you gave her... Ruining not just your creation, but even corrupting her reputation and damaging the memory of the sweet feelings that her beautiful name used to arise in you, that now is applied to something that looks repulsive to you....
Now you know a little more about Italian culture 😂✌️☮️😊

To be fair, it was only THIS American who couldn't tell the difference between Spanish and Italian, not all of them. I was doing quite well until the young lady from Belgium came. Don't have a clue about how Flemish sounds. The only Belgians I've ever heard speak were Jacques Brel and Stromae, who both spoke in French.
But part of the reason American students don't tend to hold on to the foreign languages they study is because they start learning them so late. Other countries have their kids study foreign languages while they are still in grade school, but in the US they wait until they are teenagers. Language acquisition is so much easier for young kids. In fact, a cognitive study conducted at Harvard and MIT concluded that starting to learn a new language before age 10 will give a learner the best chance of achieving proficiency similar to that of a native speaker.

You sound extremely presumptuous. If you don’t have any idea of how these things work then why just take wild stabs at it? It’s literally being as clueless as the people in the video. Most Americans do not learn other languages until 8th grade out of 12. Even then still it is at a basic level. Other classes in school take importance. Even in the end of 11th grade it is optional to continue as most colleges require only 3 years of a language at high school level. America is fairly homogenous outside of Spanish being spoken. Even still, you don’t hear it out in the wild that much or hear it at your friend’s house if you know someone. Europe has many many languages and much movement between nations with those languages, thereby necessitating learning languages and putting greater importance in language acquisition. Personally, as someone who is trilingual by heritage, I think it’s dumb to be elitist about languages. It doesn’t make you smart. It sure as shit doesn’t make Europe have any less problems than Americans. Europeans need to get over themselves no cap.

I have met people from other countries who thought Czechoslovakia still existed. I met a north korean who asked me if Cubans speak Cuban. I had Chinese ask me if Polish people speak German. Most Americans don't interact with Europeans, they have no reason to know this stuff. Most of you people probably know nothing about Ethiopia or Congo, couldn't say what languages they speak, their capitals, or the fact that Ethiopia is literally in a civil war now that killed more people than in the Ukraine war. these countries have more people than most European countries.
